viiictoria Seraphynthetic viiictoria Hotaru230 do they really wear a petticoat in punk loli? YES. Unless she wants to do a casual punk loli. o: I find casual loli to be a bit more casual when there's no petticoat (although this is because my petticoat cuts into my skin worse than my cheap Wal-Mart waist cincher does Dx ). No, a lolita needs a petticoat. For casual you can opt for a smaller one, but it still needs to be there. Having on a pair of bloomers will prevent the scratchinesses. My petti's not scratchy. o: It's the waistband. It's fine for a few hours, but after wearing it for 12 it BURNS. Dx Plus I don't think my petti is poofy enough. Dx I hate it with a passion. Dx It deserves to be burned or thrown into a child's costume box. :C In fact...I've just inspired myself to find a new petti... Do they make petti's that zip or button up instead of being elastic?

I suppose you could try to find one, though I think they're supposed to be easily removed and that's why there is elastic. Not sure, but it does get super annoying. D:
And I think you don't HAVE TO have a petti. [I'm sure a few other guild members can agree with me here..] I go Casual Loli sometimes t school. They white skirt I wear is a little to unpoofable to wear one with it. Though, it is knee length, just not belled out. [It's cute. White with ruffles all along the bottom and front. >w< Thrift Store find. <3 Very Loli-Able.]
I'm sure that if you look carefully through a few PunkLoli pictures, you can possible find one without a petti. And Since I do not own Bloomers, I do not wear them. Does that make me not Lolita? If it does, then why not skrew the fashion altogether? I hate rules and guidelines, they make people look like elitists. And elitists are not cool. D: srsly
And I'm sure that most of this guide is opinionized. =(

But on weekends and such I try to go all out and it's just not fun to be in pain with a bad petticoat (it stretches out to 35" which is way past my waist size but it's like 18" around when it's not on anything...And I'm a 28"). Dx It's a horrible little thing!

Accodring to this, it's not nescesarry to wear a petticoat if you're going for casual loli. Lolita Handbook If you're unsure if your outfit could be classified as casual loli, just make sure you have a traditional loli skirt (one you could put a petticoat underneath) and at least 2 of the following items. If you're wearing a loli dress or jumper you just need one of the following. For a less traditional loli skirt (say like a pleated skirt), then I'd say go for about 3 of the following (thanks to invertedcross for bringing up this situation). Though if you have 4 or more of these you're probably a full-blown loli at that point. Casual Loli Checklist: ♥ Elegant blouse or adorable cutsew-esque shirt. ♥ Petticoat. ♥ Hair accessories - headdress, bow, mini-crown, etc. ♥ Loli hairstyle - sausage curls, Mana pigtails, hime cut, etc. ♥ Loli shoes (ex. Mary Janes). ♥ Stockings or frilly socks. ♥ Frilly parasol. ♥ Additional item - frilly coats, aprons, shrugs, cardigans, etc.

She is emphasizing the shape of the skirt and petticoat just like I am. "make sure you have a traditional loli skirt (one you could put a petticoat underneath) " "Casual Loli Checklist: ♥ Petticoat." I don't really understand why you're trying to argue with me, but okay.

It's very true that the Petti give the shape to the skirt, and yes, going to far out of the guidelines makes it not Lolita. I own a petti, it's just hard to get it to look right with that skirt without it looking all lumpy. D:
o.o I can't find a good pattern for bloomers, and the fact I'm a novice seamstress doesn't help. Do you think that a pattern for a pair of pants [Kind of like PJ bottoms, I guess.] could be modified into bloomers? I've wanted a pair for a while now and it's easier to just make them, right? I have a nice thick, soft white fabric that I could possibly use for them.
True, I'm sorry. I shouldn't jump to conclusions and stuff. I tend to to that frequently, so my deepest apologies to you. I've only been into Lolita for about a year now, and Japanese fashion altogether for about five. [ I loved the random street styles and the Kimonos. <3]

In other words when wearing casual loli you need to have skirt that can accomodate a petticoat, but you do NOT have to have a petticoat on.

Aw, thanks Cold Reality!
Seraphyn and Viiictoria: D: Guys, it's kind of silly to fight about it. I think it's a personal prefrence for how casual you want to go, but then it might not be really Lolita anymore, just Victorian-esque.
For Example, you could wear:
Lolita Shoes Hoodie [Similar to the one viiictoria has on..?] Headress if sorts And a skirt without a petticoat and still look Casual Loli.
Of course, that example was a part of my personal preference. =/
By the way, that hoodie of yours viiictoria, is cute. I wish I had one in black. D:
