Yeah, it was kinda fun getting caught between those two hard places at first, but stupid people always ask the same questions. And smart people would usually rather observe it for themselves. Maybe you should print out some pamphlets. "Goth: Are you?" The whole school would have an identity crisis. Make it sound like a disease...'tis the original gothic mission to scare people, after all.

Isel Actually, I just tell them the worst possible thing I can think up.
One person called my friend a "fire witch, cuz you always be wearin' red" (he has no red clothing)- had I been there, I would have confirmed that all goths, nay, all white people are fire witches and are out to get him.
We're post-sensationalists, it's what we do. I prefer to subtly subvert the course of people, rather then illicit sensationalist replies. Its more fun, takes more skill and lasts longer. smile

Ugh, I've been in spots like that countless times with my mother or one of her close-minded, super-Christian friends. It's worse when my best friend asks me to describe 'goth'. Because I have done alot of research into the history of goth, and I (of course) start spewing my knowledge like a fountain and confuses the poor kid into an hour of silent contemplation. xD He doesn't ask me anymore.

I usually just sit in the back of the class room quietly when people turn to stare at me when subjects like that come up. It freaks them out more if you don't say anything about it - it's always the quiet ones you have ter worry about - lol

I don't generally talk to people really...makes it easy to avoid akward situations. I mean, I have casual quick conversation with many people, and I'm on either good or neutral(aka I don't know them) terms with just about everyone in the school. But I don't talk to them about anything meaningfull. I don't much like people.

Of course,
I had to explain this particular subculture to my Daddy. One day, in the piece of s**t vehicle he addressed as a BMW,
"Pearly, Are you a goth? Tell me, what is a goth? And why do you listen to metal? Too much Satanic screaming. Why do you dress like that?"
My Daddy is Asian. :3
Now if that wasn't awkward...

It's rare for a Normal to even remotely grasp the concept of goth. I try to avoid the subject.
