Yami no Hitokiri Prejudice sucks. Let's face it though; we are visually oriented creatures. We base our judgment on what we see rather than that what we are told. That's why all the enlightenment and political correctness in the world will never erase racial prejudice. Sad but true :[ Slander I do tend to afford a little more automatic respect to a person with a well-composed avatar, much in the same way that I afford more respect to people with witty names, or those who are particularly well-spoken. But I don't see a goth avatar and write the person behind it off as some whiny black-dressing social reject. So do I. But also, a well-composed avatar or really intelligent/witty writing will usually make me want to look at the person's profile and even get to know said person. I have to say, I also tend to look at avatars that are not wearing anything or only beginner's clothes as not as worth-while. Unless of course their writing is extremely fascinating burning_eyes

Gaian avatars obviously have SOME reflection on the person that created them - you're not going to adorn your avi with things that you HATE.
They also have the whole fantasy element, which can be indicative of what someone may LIKE, but not what they ARE - for example, I don't assume that because an avi has purple hair and fire-wings and a little dragon that this is what they are like in real life, obviously.
However, if by looking at my avi you assume I am blonde, girly, a little whimsical and a tad on the preppy side, then you are correct. But am I doe-eyed and slender and eternally smiling? Not so much.
So there is of course SOME amount of truth to the way we represent ourselves through our avis - whether it is rooted in reality or wishful thinking or fantasy are the real questions. But really, what does it matter? We're all people!

Hey, ljosberinn! I totally agree with everything you said up there!
On an entirely unrelated note, I have recently become obsessed with Iceland, and I am fascinated to meet someone who lives there! wink

People's Avatar may have a reflection on themselves. Alas, it does not automatically mean that his or her avatar is his/her "mini-me"
I look nothing like mine. He is somewhat like me. But my friend's is completely pretty and she is an emo goth. I am not dissing her. She calls herself that.

Quote: I've lost a lot of gold that way, and now I'm learning to stay away from the marketplace while trying to save money for something expensive. Ahahaha. I've actually been lurking around the marketplace for the past couple of days, selling things that I don't really need. Unfortunately, I end up buying things, too. Which is bad, since I'm trying to quest for something, and am still 100k away from being able to afford it. But I sort of like how the Lucky Stars and Water Meat pull my av's outfit together. I think you have to look at each person individually. Some people just throw on items because they're cute, some try to make a statement, and some, like myself, are just trying to put together a 'dream avatar', sort of like drawing a picture. It's different for everyone. If I'm repeating anyone else, sorry. I didn't manage to read past that quote. stare

To me the avatar is complex matter. On one hand you have the mind of the owner of that avi (so they call it) and on the other hand you have a limited amount of items the owner was able to gather. Now, you have to do the best you can with whatever you have, so I will say that 5 out of 10 times the avatar is just a resemblance of someone's thoughts but not nearly what this person intended.
In the end an avatar will reflect people's mood at the moment of dressing it up; but it doesn't necessarily reflect people's character.
Take a look at my avi, it dresses like I do on Weekends except for the blue hair, fishing net and the stuffed fish. It is smiling but I normally remain quite. Even though it sort of look like me my personality is not reflected in it.

[x]Happy New Years...[x] I've never really thought about it before but I would have to say that it doesn't really matter to me!
My avatar is dressed the way it is, because I think it looks cool. [x]And all that jazz....[x]

I tend to view people through their avitars sometimes, mostly because that is all I ever see of them. So I kinda have no choice. but do I make a choice not to talk to someone baced on their avitar... nope...
Although I personaly make a point not to wear skirts on gaia, in pure expression of the fact that I hate them IRL. I don't think anyone has notaced that yet though. xd

I think avatars are a fun way to express yourself; its an easy way to express your likes and, sometimes, your wishes or dreams. I don't personally have a flock of birds follow me around, but I think my avatar is beautiful! Sometimes I see some very outrageous ones and think, wow, that must have taken a long time to get, but I dont ever judge a person's character based on strictly their avvie. They're just fun little things!

You can kind of tell personality to some degree, but I wouldn't rely upon it. I look at what someone says in their posts more often.
Also, all black is way too common these days. It's not interesting anymore. Although my avatar might not look right, I know damn well it's original smile Not bashing all those black-lovers out there, only the ones that do it 'cause it's cool. Bah.

Large amounts of avatars clad in a lot of black clothing and items are a little monotonous. Every once in a while I'll get bored voting in the Avatar Arena.
Me, I go with what I think looks nice. My avatar tends to be an extension of myself, whether it's a visible picture, as here on Gaia, or simply a collection of text, as on a MUD. Actually, there are times when I prefer simple text. It's more fun to use my imagination to get a picture of someone's character.
But then, I'm eccentric.
(edit) Personally, in real life I tend to wear a lot of black, but it's accented with other colors. I feel I've earned the right to wear a lot of black by now if I choose to, and according to some I wear it well. I do like the clothing and items on Gaia, though, in part because a lot of it is stuff I'd never find in a store or be able to fit into if I did find it.

Deffinatly not! My avitar has shown me in the past as a poor bumb, a painter, and a ghost. And I'm living, in a warm house, without any painting supplies on hand.
