[Q] Padme Potter of Hobbiton Heroes isn't cable. It's NBC. That's basic cable. Notice the word cable, in there? Q...
NBC National Broadcasting Company (Now defunct name, they just use NBC now, but the point remains valid.
Emphasize broadcasting. It was founded in 1926 with TV beginning in 1941 long predating Cable. It's a network station, one of the so called Big Four which is available almost anywhere, free of charge. It's available in 97% of all houses in the USA as of 2003 along with being available in Canada, The Caribbean, Latin America and Northern Mexico.

Free channels that you get free just with a TV and antenna:
ABC NBC CBS Fox CW then there's PAX, maybe a couple of random Spanish and religious and or a local channel that shows old shows depending on where one lives.
That's what I grew up with. Didn't have cable until the last few years when I've been living on my own. XD

I grew up with 13 channels, but that was basic cable. Rabbit ears gets 3 channels, but I'll be damned if I remember which ones they were.
I was pretty sure it depended on who had the strongest signal you could tap into.
Edit:
My parents' TV only had rabbit ears, and I could get the disney channel. That's why I came to that conclusion of whomever has the strongest signal. If I went back to georgia and sat a pair of rabbit ears on a random TV, I could probably get CNN and Cartoon Network easily and in pretty good quality, considering both their HQs are in Atlanta.

All the channels that we got on that TV were from rabbit ear antennas.
This was in Florida. Each region is different. :/
