Richard winced just slightly when he saw the beak. It was ugly and useless in its half formed state. He forced the smile back though. "Well smashing mirrors didn't exactly get rid of these either." He ran a claw along the length of one of his whiskers. It tickled, is face froze up, then suddenly sneezed with a snort. Exactly like a cat. He shook his head and sniffed.
"Well that never happened before." He grinned sheepishly.

Shenzi's smile turned slightly twisted, the expression looking very strange indeed on her half formed face. Her tufted ears flicked back and forth slightly, listening to his words, catching other sounds too. The sound of his breathing, the distant waves hitting the rocks, a bird up above.
Shaking her head, she shut her eyes, leaning back so she was propping herself up on her elbows, the end of her tail twitching back and forth. "So any idea what you arre? I neverr rreally assked." She said, a sheepish look taking over her face as she realized this.

Richard's face immediately soured and he looked out over the waves. "A displacer beast." The name was almost spat out. "Any idea what that is?"

Shenzi frowned, thinking, as he spoke again. "No, I-" Displacer beast? It actually sounded familiar... Mentally punching herself, she made herself think back. And Ed's face came up. Ed and his video games. Thinking of names, it took her another minute to remember the game it came from, an old board game he had tried to get her to play at one point.
When that thought finished processing, she let out small sympathetic sound. "I do, actually. You might want to sstudy up on dungeonss and drrragonss, Richarrd."

Richard chuckled darkly, "I have the monsters manual in my room. Its a silly, silly creature. A six legged cat with two tentacles. A monster some teenage wannabe made up." He growled, a sawing sound, harsh and inhuman. He had read the books, all three of them, cover to cover in an effort to understand what all those numbers meant.
"Course thats not the worst part."

Shenzi gave him another sympathetic look, warily eyeing the tentacles on his back. "Do I even want to know?" She asked dryly, raising a slightly feathered eyebrow. "Can't imagine it's better then a gryphon."

Richard took a deep breath. The words were just on the tip of his tongue. He wanted to tell someone, he needed to tell someone. He looked down at his chest, the two mounds of flesh barely visable under a tightly wrapped ace bandage.
He looked up at Shenzi and the word died in his throat. His mouth worked. He couldn't say it, couldn't say that they were making him into a woman. Couldn't express how badly it was damaging his own identity.
He looked away, blinking away suddenly watery eyes. "Its... Its.." He casted about trying to find an alternative to offer up. "Its... the mind you know. It changes too."
Richard's eyes were glued on the horizon.

Shenzi noticed his almost fish-out-of-water expression, and she was suddenly worried. Leaning closer to Richard, she let one of her hands take a gentle hold on his chin, the scales on her fingers cold, and turned his head to look at her. "Rricharrd, what else happened?" The mind wasn't all that changed, that was for certain. What had happened to him?

Richard reach up and took Shenzi hand away from his face. Yet, he held onto her hand, patting the scaley fingers with his other large hand. Sighing again he looked back to the ocean. There was no getting around it he supposed. To avoid it now he'd have to get up and leave, just that minute.
Would she keep it secret? Would he even be able to hide it after his next change? "Well..." He began, unsure of his words. "When I first arrived here, Moreau and I had a chat, I put it in the newsletter. Buuuut, I left a little bit out. It got heated towards the get and I lost my proffessional manners. I called him a monster first, and then c-" Richard couldn't bring himself to say the word. It was too vuglar, he had only managed to say it un the influence of intense rage. He bit his lip and was squeezing Shenzi's so hard his knuckles had begun to turn white. His eyes glazed as he relived the moment when his lions began to burn away.

Shenzi's expression grew more worried, her blue eyes dark with concern for her friend. She kept a careful hold on his hand, ever mindful of the wicked nails she was growing, even as his grip turned to a steady clamp on her hand, though the tough scales covering her skin helped some. "Well, I can sssee why you would inssult him." She said lightly, falling silent as she saw the vacant look in his eyes, as if he were seeing again what had transpired between him and the doctor. "Rricharrd."

Richard slumped as the memory finished playing out, his tentacles hit the rock behind him with a wet THWACK! as they went limp. "I called him a c**t." He shook his head sadly, disappointed with both what was happening to him and at his own breach of professionalism. "He picked my serum after that."
He stared out to the horizon, pondering the places beyond, where things were sane and normal.

Shenzi would have found the idea of Richard calling Moreau, hell, anyone, a c**t greatly amusing, were the situation any different. As it was, though, she felt bad for him. "Therre'sss nothing wrrong with sspeaking yourr mind, Rricharrd." She said, again cursing her new vocals. "Was that all that happened?" Shenzi asked, feeling like he wasn't saying everything.

She didn't get the significance of what he had said. A churr issued from his throat. It was probably for the best. Everyone would figure it out soon enough. He eased up on her hand and patted it lightly. "Your right," givin her a tiny smile. "He did deserve it. we just have to live with the rest."

Shenzi still had a worried frown tugging at the corners of her mouth. She felt like she was missing something, but what? She watched his face, looking at the changes from when she had first met him, when his face was still wholly human and he just had two little tentacles. Whiskers, catty eyes, a more vibrant blue, slightly softer, a little more feminine looking...
Her frown deepened as she continued looking at him, though she wasn't entirely sure what to say. "Yeah, ssinccce I doubt therrre'ss a way to change uss back."

"Change us back? Hrrm." He looked down at her scaley hands and his short fingers. He chuckled at how the sight of them were now normal. He had spend hours after his second change just staring at his own hands. And he had never blinked at Shenzi's. It was far easier to accept some else's change than your own. "Four months ago I would have sworn up and down this was impossible. I'm not going to say anything is impossible anymore. Nothing about me is proving constant and I doubt the labs are the bedrock of stablity that present themselves to be. No, I'm not going to say anything is impossible anymore."
