Emerwyn's heart ached as she began to realize just how young Miller was. Somehow, some way, being on the Island had completely altered her perception of age. She herself was vaguely aware that she was twenty-four years old, but she did not even know how old Ian was. But seeing Miller here, crying as he was - Emerwyn saw a little boy. She saw Garen.

And she placed an arm comfortingly around his shoulder. There were so many ways to say what she wanted to say.
"We lived," she said. "Each and every one of us lived. And whether we were aware of it or not, we were offering ourselves to Fate in the process. By choosing to act with purpose, with a driving force that was our life, we were risking being susceptible to the horrors of this world..."
She smiled, looking directly into his eyes.
"But at the same time, Miller-" her eyes glistened with passion. "-we were offering ourselves to the opportunities that a full life can offer. We were allowing ourselves to feel joy, love, and excitement.
And if you ask my opinion, Blue Angel, I believe that is worth facing horrors beyond which are achievable by the hand of one sad man."
She finished here, passion etched in every fiber of her being, despite the terrible weariness that continued to plague her.

Miller hunched over slightly as Emerwyn's arm warped around his shoulder continuing to cry now in to the palms of his open hands, for him time was agony, it used to be something he never cared about, what did it matter how many days he spent living life the way one enjoyed it at the age of eighteen? Yet all of that was gone, every day replaced with the ever nagging thought that he would never see his old life again.

As she spoke he looked up slowly to match her gaze. His own tear filled eyes locking to that of hers filled with passion and perhaps even in Miller's mind he saw hope, the hope to find freedom from the Hell he found him self slowly falling into. "Butz howz? It'z gonez... Ki-kuez... zhe wuz zo happy whenz Iz gave herz dah brazlet, it madez me happyz to seez herz smilez... shez gonez... the onez thingz I hadz herez gonez... iz thatz it? Iz thatz the fullezt lifez metz to be for mez?"

How he wanted to forsake her words, to say she was wrong that nothing was worth what they had to cope with on the island, the loss of family, freedom, and even for some there humanity and lives. Yet her words could never be forsaken he knew that. And it all came down to the memory of a lick on the cheek from and a smile on the face of one sad leopard girl for him to realize that he had lived to some point a full life. To know he had truly for a brief time made some one honestly happy to be alive.

Emerwyn turned now from beside him to face him full on. She placed each awkwardly shaped palm on either side of his face gently.
She said now, with laughter in her eyes, "I think you know as well as I do that that is not true."

Emerwyn herself had lost Ian - twice. Once she had condemned herself to shadows, not letting another living soul see her, for shame of her actions, who she had become. And then she had left him, to try and seek a way to the past, to Jerrick. Both times she had foolishly left his side. And yet, both times, he had taken her back. And now she knew she was there to stay.
Even Julian had reunited with her - even he was not totally lost. She believed now that one day Julian would be able to accept what was, and rediscover his friend, and his demons would disappear.

It was at this point, no moment sooner, or later, that Emerwyn realized - she had found her hope.

Miller reached up slowly as she took his face in to her hands placing one of his own over top hers and squeezing gently. He could only nod his head gently to her statement, the smallest bit of a smile creeped along his face as he shifted slowly leaning closer to Emerwyn and wraping his arms around her in a hug gently snugging his forehead into her shoulder and continued to let his tears roll freely till they faded away.

He missed Kikue more then he could ever explain to him self or Emerwyn right now, but not to much unlike Emerwyn he had found his own little ray of hope, and for now that was enough for him.

And it was enough for the road-weary woman to sit there with Miller, against the tree, holding him gently, as a mother would a sleeping child.
And she sang.

Now, at the time of waking,
I feel my heart is slowly breaking;
My body lies here quaking,
Praying for dawn.

You saw me, broken, lying,
My soul was bleeding, dying,
Face turned to you, so sighing,
"My love - it is gone.

"Why has the world forsaken all that it once had?
"Lost in darkness, despair and longing...
Emerwyn's breath shuddered.
longing for their light..."

You reached your hand out to me
Looked in my eyes and saw right through me
"Now, come along here with me,
"See what has begun..."

Together we walked among them,
And there, I saw...
