"Lauren, huh?" Marshall said, actually kind of glad; at least now he had made some progress! Her name is Lauren! A name was a lot easier to work with.
"...And its Say-dar?" Marshall asked with raised eye brows, "Huh. I thought Se-dar sounded too weird."

"She's the only blonde with pointed ears that I've met," the beaver commented with a shrug. There could be others, but they weren't people she knew.
"Exactly," Chana confirmed with a smile. Then she paused. "I'm not...sure if this'll offend you--so I'm sorry if it does--but...you really don't know much about Judaism, do you?" She really hoped she hadn't put her overly large foot in it this time.

Luckily for Chana, Marshall wasn't the least bit offended.
"Nope!" he said with a smile, "I don't know jack about it! Y'see, my mom was Jewish but I wasn't raised Jewish...I wasn't really raised any thing, really. But last year or so I finally found out, so I'm kinda curious about it." Marshall said, rubbing the back of his neck with his mitten-like flipper hand, "Kind of embarrassing, admitting it like this..."

Chana blinked in surprised. Apparently she'd finally found someone who fit the term "happy-go-lucky." Hey, at least he wasn't moping about being turned into an animal.
Why couldn't she be more like Marshall? So she'd changed again. So what? Why get upset over spilt milk? It had happened, and that was that. Better to live with the beaver. Then, when both parts of her were happy, she'd be quite content.
Resolve firmed, she brought her wandering thoughts back to her companion.
"You know, I brought a prayer book and a copy of the Torah with me. I'd be happy to lend them to you...but it's not nearly as satisfying if you don't know Hebrew." The beaver chewed her lip -carefully- in thought as she pondered that problem. Also the problem of she didn't really want to be without her precious books...

"Really? But...Um...I don't read Hebrew. Are there like...Transliterations in the back? Maybe?" Marshall asked. His Judaism for Dummies had some of the more popular prayers spelled out in English, but he wasn't sure if any other books would have them.

"Thought so," Chana murmured to herself. "Well," she continued at a normal volume, "the standard prayers, the ones that are in every service, are transliterated in the back. But other prayers are only done once, and somewhere in one of the services. It can be very confusing."
And this really wasn't going to help him. Then the beaver got an idea.
"But you could ask the staff to get a...a book or something, to help you learn Hebrew. I mean, there's no reason why they shouldn't right?" After all, they seemed happy enough to provide the proper means to celebrate the multitude of Jewish holidays...why not help Marshall learn the language? At least how to read it.

"I guess I'll have to, eh?" Marshall chuckled. He figured learning a new language couldn't be that hard. He did know some broken Japanese from his 4 years in High School.
"Um...After I learn some Hebrew...Could I please borrow your books?" Marshall asked.

"Sounds good to me," Chana agreed. "I'm in number 26, so you can come by anytime."
"Actually," she said as another thought struck her, "you don't have to be fluent. As long as you can read it out loud, you're fine. So that means you just need to know the letters and vowels...if that makes things easier," the beaver added.

"Heh heh...Okay. I'm all the way down at Duplex 59. But um...Reading Hebrew...Its not terribly hard, is it?" Marshall asked nervously.

Chana shrugged. "Learning to read and write it is much easier than learning how to speak it. Trust me, I was a youth leader, and most of those kids could read the language, but they couldn't tell you what most of it meant, even if you paid them."
Idiot rich kids--Chana cut that thought off abruptly with the force of long habit.

"Heh heh...Well, thank you Chana. I'll try my best with the whole Learning Hebrew thing." Marshall said as he got up. He had the name of the girl he was looking for, or at least the name of some one close. Now he just had to find this 'Lauren' person.
"I'll catch ya later!" He said, taking an abrubt exit. He found out the girl's name AND met another Jewish person. This was, unarguably, a good day.

"You're welcome, Marshall," the beaver replied, pleased. "And good-bye!" she called after him.
A good day indeed. Chana surveyed the room. Talking to Marshall had put her in a much better mood. Maybe she wouldn't watch a movie after all.
Whistling a cheery tune half-remembered from her work at the Jewish camp, the beaver strolled out of the entertainment room.
