I'm Hawkeye, although Frank Burns has called me "elbow-bending boozer", or, if he was going for the pithy insult, "alchie".
Hailing from the TV show, I would definitely have to say that I prefer it to the movie, although I do appreciate that the movie was made, as it paved the way for the iconic TV series.
A personal anecdote? Well, I was playing poker with a soldier who worked in the supply division of the U.S. Army, and upon learning that I had four of a kind, he admitted defeat, and told me he would give me one of the Army's jeeps as payment.
A few days later, a different soldier delivered a howitzer to the 4077th, with this letter:
Couldn't swing the jeep.
The howitzer was all I could find.
Happy hunting!
All I wanted to do was get rid of it, but B.J. had a different idea, involving a howitzer assembly/dissasembly manual and a bucket of cement. That very night, B.J. took a toolkit and removed the firing pin as I shined a flashlight, and together we filled the cannon barrel with cement, for hardening of the artillery. mrgreen
