I was watching it a second ago because I rented it off Netflix. I like it. It's veeeeery good. =D I especially like the scenes that go like this:
DANCE!ERIK: Hmmm...shiny...-wearing crazy, shiny mask- Buuuuuut...OPE!-takes off shiny mask to show regular mask underneath- GOT ANOTHER ONE UNDERNEATH! You didn't see that coming, now did you?
XD I luff Dance!Erik...he's huggable!

I've heard good things about the TV version... And from what I see here I think it would amuse me XD
We went hoping to find a copy of it at Blockbuster but all we found was the Robert Englund version, which now that I've read the Leroux novel doesn't seem *all* that bad, I didn't exactly enjoy. As a horror movie it, well, it sucked. As a version of Phantom of the Opera... I have trouble imaginign Erik indulging in prostitutes. Or selling his soul to Satan eek As both a PotO fan and a Christian, I had some issues with the idea that Erik sold his soul to Satan >.>
But that's another story.

I've wanted to see this show because I heard it was the TV version of the Y/K musical. Loosely based, perhaps, but the same idea- even down to the picnic scene, which I would love to see.

Polan Haha! I was looking around EBay for a copy of the 1990's TV Phantom when I found this: CRAZY!!!And even better, this: EVEN CRAZIER!!!!...I love EBay... Ah, yes, the infamous Phantom on Ice... and the animated film is simply a blast! I love it to pieces. Jurori Songwind I've wanted to see this show because I heard it was the TV version of the Y/K musical. Loosely based, perhaps, but the same idea- even down to the picnic scene, which I would love to see. Actually, I believe it was the musical that was based off the film. Yeston and Kopit were looking for someone to fund their musical, and made the film version first. It isn't too loosely based at all. I prefer the film over the musical though, simply because the musical is such utter cheese with the most ridiculous and banal lyrics I have ever heard. But it's grown on me.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I find the Y/K version amusing at some points. Like the music lessons Erik has with Christine. "Bababa?" xd Hearing Erik sing that so seriously just cracks me up.

I think my favorite Laugh Out Loud song has to be "This Place Is Mine", in which Carlotta sings about how she owns everything from the chandelier to the toilet bowls... xd

I'm almost sad to admit that I haven't yet seen the Yeston/Kopit musical. I've heard of it's infinitely bad cheesyness and have avoided it. Now I have a morbid curiousity towards viewing it. Like a train wreck...

Or a car crash! Normally, for me, it's....
Me: WHOO! A car crash! I don't wanna look away, so I don't!! Dad: ZOE! Do you want me to pull this car over?! Me: YES! A better look!!! Dad:*grumblemutter* *keeps driving*

fuokohopin Despite it's shortcomings, it does have some of the most hilarious lines. "*hearing Carlotta's singing* The place really is haunted! What is that?" Manager/Daroga/Person Character: "What are you going to do about all this?" Erik: "Oh, I know what to do. I'll kill them both!" Manager/Daroga/Person Character:"Oh, come now! Be serious!" Erik: "I'm teasing. Probably the only one I'll have to kill is her." Manager/Daroga/Person Character: " Erik!"Erik: "What has happened to your sense of humor?" Ha! That's funny. mrgreen

All I remembre of it that is starts out in New York with a Girl named Christine Daee' and a mirror smashes and BOOM back to Paria we go! Wee! XD 1989 version with Robert Englund... badly based off the book... kinda creepy... And Who The Fudge is Richard?! (Yeah, I know Raoul... but why Richard?! Based off the book, yeah right)
