I didn't like the book the first time I read it. I don't like most things that make me sad, and I really couldn't understand the actions of some of the adults in the book, particularly the lady he lived next to in the apartment toward the end. I liked it better the second time I read it, probably because I was older. However, most recently I saw the older movie, and I think it could have been done better. I might enjoy the newer version of the movie mentioned in this thread. I'll keep an eye out for it.

There are so many mentally retarted people in this world who can tell when someone is making fun of them. People can be so callus.

This was perhaps one of the saddest books I have ever read. It was written very well I think though. I love how he started it off like a five year old and then gradually increases to albert E. then decreases.
