I remember the day that Chaeval found the girl...soaked from the rains that burst from the heavens that must have cast her out. For she truly did appear as an angel, but the tragedy in her eyes confirmed it was of the fallen variety.
How and why Chaeval knows things I have long stopped pondering. Just as she knew with me certain unspoken truths, so she was able to find a lonely and silent child in the midst of a monsoon. And then get her to return home to here.
Of course, the thought had crossed my mind more than once that such knowledge was dangerous...but patience was ever a virtue.
"Help me with her, Caerdwyn." Chae ordered simply, exhausted from carrying the silent child for so long. The rain had long ago washed away any traces of where they had been. There was a reason for that, though she wished the water could sluice the stain from their hearts as well.
"Child, this is Caerdwyn Iasant. He'll hold you for a few minutes while I find us something warm to wear. Gently, Caer."
He pretended faint indignation. "Good gods, woman. Do you think I am a barbarian?"
"Pounding at the gates." she shot back, although her voice was still mild. "Heed to her warmth, take her to the fire."
