From the Channel 4 site Mr Lygo said the channel still had a few episodes of Countdown presented by Richard that had not yet been aired, but may be broadcast later subject to his family's wishes. Whiteley did not miss an episode for 23 years until May 2005 when he was taken into Bradford Royal Infirmary with pneumonia.

Kit-kun When it comes to me taking death seriously, then it's a sad day for humanity. I always believed that people morning was not for the person dying and feeling bad for them, but feeling like they've lost out or as if they are the ones who need to be sad. I think, for me at least, mourning is more about being sad that you wont see a person and spend time with them when you had formed a bond with them. It isn't being sad for the deceased because they are dead, they can't feel now.

Me and a friend tried to think of possible replacement for Richie, but no such luck. Our list at the end consisted of the following:
Bruce Forsyth Matthew Kelly Jeremy Beadle (TINY HAND!) John Fashnu Bob Monkhouse (then i remembered he was dead too sweatdrop ) Roy Walker Les Dennis
Then we got kinda bored, so we wrote a song called "Le Denni" which is french for Les Dennis.
