"Surprising how?" Despite himself, Merric found himself blushing at the compliment. "Even the Mers around the shop tend to be either shy or cliquish. It's hard to get to know them... But out of the water..." He shrugged, frowning slightly at Shin's quip about himself. Forget... about Shin? Never!
"Fisk!" Merric paled and lurched forward to his feet at the sight of Fisk. He looked on the verge of death in his current state, not to mention the fact that he appeared to have been crying before. The green Mer shook a sudden pang of guilt from his heart and mind. "Get in the water now!"

Fisk jumped slightly as Shin spoke to him, feeling a bit better about him because he didn't snap. His breathing came hard still despite this, but he did feel a bit more comfortable. He managed to give a weak smile as he stepped out further, but it may have seemed more like a cringe to anyone else. He nodded slightly as he stepped out of the surrounding trees, feeling himself wobble harshly as he took his hand off of the supporting trunk. Take it slow... Don't want to fall, do you? he tried to tell himself as he walked, but it was getting more and more difficult.
The striped mer looked up to Merric as he told him to get in the water, nodding. He didn't like seeing Merric so worried, but he couldn't move any faster without falling. "Sorry for intruding..." he apologized, the only thing that seemed to come to mind. His steps stopped as he coughed, unsure if he could move any further without passing out. His ears drooped noticably, eyes back to the ground. I can't do it..., he said cerebrally, dropping to the ground. I'm so pathetic, so weak...

"I'd be lying if I say I haven't experienced this before," he said, thinking about his first meeting with Kishi. When Merric started speaking to Fisk, he remained silent out of politeness. In a way, he seemed to understand Fisk's sadness beside his physical weakness. He got up and walked over to the other mer, wanting to help him out somehow.

Merric realized his mistake as soon as the words had come from his mouth. Fisk had waited far too long in the open air, that was certain, and that he - Merric - had allowed it to happen weighed heavily on his mind. He nodded grimly at Shin's words. He believed the wolf when he said he knew what was going on. When Shin went to Fisk's side, Merric followed, biting his lip in his worry for the fallen mer.
He looked up at Shin. "Help me get him into the water... I don't want him hurt anymore than he already is." He could carry Fisk on his own, but feared that any strain or awkwardness would force him to be rough... Looking back down at Fisk, he tried to get the striped mer's attention. "Fisk, we're going to put you back in the water. Don't worry about anything. I'll get in with you, all right?" Glancing up at Shin, he slid his arm around Fisk's shoulders.

The small mer closed his eyes, angry at himself for being so dependant on others, even after all the work he had done to become more independant. He supposed it wasn't so bad, seeing as he needed to get to know others, but to be so weak in the presence of them did nothing for his self-esteem. He could feel his skin burning from the dryness of the air, but he tried not to pay it any heed. All he had to do was to get to the pond; so why did something so near have to be so hard to get to? Why did he have to crash when he was so close to his goal? It just didn't seem right...
Despite all his negative feelings, he was eternally greatful for such kindness to be had out of a situation so bad. He was embarrassed, yes, but he was happy to know there were people who cared. His face flushed and his head getting fuzzy, he nodded to Merric as he told Fisk what he and Shin were going to do. He tried to relax in Merric's grip even though the touch stung. It discouraged him that it did this, for the last time he had touched Merric it had felt so good, for it was the only time he had done such a thing to anyone; why must it hurt so bad now? "I'm sorry... for causing so much trouble..." he whispered to the two of them, closing his eyes in anger at himself.

Shin nodded as he helped Merric pick up the weakening Mer. He felt so bad for him while carrying him to the water. He was probably suffering from something deep inside his spirit, not just the usual physical weaknesses for the Mers in general. It would be hard for him to figure out. The reason was simple. He's a wolf.
After hearing Fisk's apology, he only shook his head sadly. "You don't have to apologize," he said quietly. As much as he wanted to pity him, he couldn't do it. He believed that he might overcome his negativity one day. He was such a cute person for a Mer...

"It's no trouble," Merric sighed. A grin creased his face half out of worry, half out of relief that Fisk would soon be in the water and feel better in no time. He kissed the other mer's hair and rested his cheek against it and hoped he would calm.
It really was just a little ways to the pond. Before Merric knew it he was splashing with every step. "See, you really did a good job. You almost made it. Next time you will make it." He was smiling gently at Fisk as he spoke, then looked up at Shin, nodding when he was all right to lower into the cool water.

Fisk's face flushed not only from the heat, but from the kindness these two showed him; but he wondered if he even deserved it. After all, he didn't try to meet others for all this time -- even if he meant to, it just wasn't enough if he didn't try. Did he deserve it when all he did was shut himself away from the world? He shook off these feelings, knowing it just wasn't right to look upon one's self in such a bad light. He tried, and trying was more than not bothering. If these two wanted to be nice to him, it was their own decision to make, not his. If it was in their nature to do so, they would, and that's all he needed to know. "Th... Thank you. Both of you," he whispered, smiling weakly. He could barely feel Merric trying to calm him down through his pain, but his energy running through him to Fisk and his intentions were enough.
As they came to the pond, he felt the water splashing up to his finned feet. It felt so good to feel it again, but he wished the effects of the heat would back off with this relief. Why must it take time? He was impatient in that respect, but felt that it was probably a good sign he was feeling anything at all. He smiled as he dipped his feet in the water, sighing with relief even if he was still horribly dry. "I hope I can do better next time... If not, it might turn out worse," he said mildly, hoping Merric was right.

Shin nodded while helping Merric getting Fisk into the water. He just knew that everything would be okay physically, for Fisk at least. But emotion-wise? That would have to be asked a little later on, if that was the question he was going to ask the younger Mer. "Think nothing of it," Shin said displaying a soft smile to him. "I'm just happy that you're okay. That's more important."

"Don't talk like that," Merric said, shaking his head. "The worst thing you can do when you're pushing yourself is to think negatively. It really does help when you have a positive outlook." He really did not care at this point if that sounded silly saying such things. He knew how shy Fisk was with others, but apparently he was the same in all aspects of his life. Shy, but also easily damaged by failure. How could he not be, when he had seen and done so little for himself? "By simply saying - and believing - 'I can do this,' you will feel more strength."
When Fisk was entirely out in the water, Merric let go. He remained right next to the other mer and kept his hands under him just in case he needed it. "Now... take your time. Let your body heal itself," he said gently.
