More errends. This was what the day was made of so far, but Sei didn't really mind. It kept him from focusing on his worry, after all, and helped Zero out quite a bit. In between sick children and having to handle preparing things with Wren, having someone to help her out with groceries was a godsent. And Sei was so mature that she had no issue with letting him do those things on her own. He was more than able to follow a list and pay without her being here, after all.
The grocery store's owner and employees where more than used to this sight by now, but still, some of the other clients found themselves looking oddly at this boy, too young to be a teen, but by all apparences a bit too tall to be a young child, pushing a cart around and putting items inside it, following a list calmly and methodically with no obivious parental figure anywhere around. Sei had learnt to pay them no mind, and it had become much more easier to do so ever since they stopped asking questions. This was gaia, after all, and for once, it's illogicness was working in his favor.
After finally gathering every item of the list and paying for them, Sei took the two bags and went on his way back home. It was quite a bit of a walk, but he had refused when Zero offered to drive him there and pick him up afterward. What would have been the point of having him do this if she was forced to drive him around ? Beside, he liked walking. Even if it usually earned him more odd looks. Sei disliked those big, bulky winter coats. They restricted his movements too much, and it wasn't like he got cold. So he walked, in sneakers and with only jeans and a jacket on, the snow crushing softly under his steps. It wasn't too cold - he could only tell by walking at the passerby. He had learned to guess the temperature by looking at the other people outside. Today they had their big coats, but no gloves, scrarves or hats, which meant that it was cold, but not that cold. He liked knowing the fact - at least he wasn't completely stumped when someone asked him how the weather was.
He continued to walk torward his house, when suddently, something dark on the ground caught his attention, a sharp contrast with the soft, white snow. He couldn't have missed it, and as soon as he saw it... he felt pulled in. He had to pick it up. Stopping finally, he let one bag on the ground and took it in his hand, gentely brushing it against his jacket to remove the faint layer of fresh snow that covered it. It was a miracle that no one had stepped on it. And, it was odd, but... he had this urge. This urge to keep it. It had never happened before, and it was overpowering. He had to keep this thing. The pendant was made of what seemed to be black crystal... And he couldn't take his eyes off it. Normally, he would have asked around to see who the object belonged to... but no, not for it. Keep it. He had to keep it. It was his's now. The urge was so strong that he didn't even have the insight to fight it. As quickly as possible, he put it around his neck, took his bag, and walked off before anyone would notice what he had just done. Too bad for the person who had lost it ! Now, he needed to get home... Zero would need her vegetables to make the soup that would wind up as Ronen's dinner, and as part of their own.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"'m home." Sei said as he stepped inside, after kicking the snow off his sneakers. Surely enough, Zero was allready busing herself making the broth from scratch.
"Thanks, hon." The blue-haired woman smilled, taking the bag from him. She didn't ask if he had everything - it was very rare for him to forget, expecially with a list, and she would work around anything that might have been overlooked. And, as the blonde boy took off his jacket to shake the snow off, she noticed something that wasn't there before. "Sei ? Where did that come from ?"
"Hm ?" It took him a minute to remember. Oh, the necklace. "Oh, that. I found it." Thanksfully, Zero had a very finder-keeper mentality, so she probably wouldn't ask just how he got it. He did feel a bit guilty now, after the fact and the urge had mostly faded. It wasn't a bad deed per se, but he should at least have asked around to see if he could have found it's owner, and that was what he wasn't likely to be proud of.
"It looks nice." Zero glanced at it. "Blacker than I expected you to like, but... Do you want me to try to tell what stone it is ?"
"I guess it's some kind of black crystal ? Or onyx, maybe. Of course, he had no way to know, having no sence of touch, so suptile differences in heat or texture escaped him completely. He was barely done with his sentence that Zero was allready running a finger trough the smooth black stone. How... how odd. The stone felt so warm to her touch. Warmer than it should be coming right from outside... and expecially warmer than it should be while worn by the fa'e boy. Perhaps it was expecting the unexpected, but... there was something odd in here.
"Zero... ?" It was only when called out that the reploid realised that her features had changed, and she cracked out a smile. "Oh, nothing hon. It's just... very warm for a stone."
"Warm ?" Sei himself now looked a bit puzzeled, understanding himself how odd this would be. "How ?"
"I have no idea." She admitted. She heard a faint sound, but... didn't identify it with the stone. "Well, beside that odd warmth, it does seem that you're right, seems like it's crystal. Very well worked too, a very smooth one." She let the stone fall back on the boy's chest. "But, you keep an eye on this, allright ?"
Sei just shrugged. Warm or not, it was a pendant, right ? Nothing else to it. Sure, he's heard Zero talk about some of the odd origins most of her children had, but... No, couldn't be. It was just a pendant, he was convinced.
Those things only happened to other people, after all, right ?

As Sei had imagined, he was in big trouble once he had finally made his way home. Zero definitively was not happy when he came in, looming at him as much as someone 5 inches taller than you could have, blue eyes sightly narrowed. "I do hope you have a very good explanation, or do I have to tell my brother he spent hours looking trough town over something silly ?"
"Can I at least sit first ?" He snapped. Granted, this was not the best way to help his case, but the fa'e couldn't really care less at the moment, pulling a chair and sitting on it, running an hand in his long bangs much akin to someone who had a severe headache.
Well, THIS was unusual. Where as about anyone else would have snapped back, Zero was quick to realize that something had happened. Instead of answering directly, the reploid crutched beside the chair to look at the child at eye level, her face and eyes having softened, anger quickly replaced by worry at the bat of an eye. "Sei, talk to me. What happened ? What's wrong... ?"
"Everything's wrong." He sighed, pulling the pendant out from under his shirt and letting it fall on his chest. "You remember that, right ? And how you said it was odd ? Well... you where right. There's a child coming out of this thing."
"A child." Zero did not sound too surprised - after all, the only child of hers that had came in a relatively natural way was the one sitting before her ! "Who told you that."
"Some creepy lady. Well, when you dropped me at the arcade I just felt this... pull to go somewhere, it was wierd... I got there, then Riven came too." The blonde explained, gray eyes focused on the black rock. "Then she made us come in in her house and she told us that there where babies in there. She said mine was Shadow and Riven's was Serenity and she wasn't polite at all." He couldn't help but frown at the comments that had been directed to the older fa'e. "Riven is pretty sure she said the truth..."
Zero couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief. At least he wasn't alone, and Riven... she had not seen him much, but she trusted him. "Well, he's probably right." Couldn't he sense spirits or something ? She didn't remember. "And I imagine it is linked to you, right ?"
"He's gonna use a bit of my soul energy to get out. Or.... something." The child frowned, the confusion of the meeting returning to him now, and then blinked. "How did you know ?"
"Oh, that's always how it goes. You where sending me dreams months before you where even born. Yes, you !" Zero couldn't help but smile a bit at Sei's dumbfounded face.
"I did that... ? I... I don't remember. What where they about ?"
But Zero remembered all too well. An huge machine, death, destruction, fear, grief, a calling for help... How could this actually be linked to the blonde boy sitting in front of her ? But... it had been... She shook her head a bit - he did not need to know. "It's been a long time, sweetie. I don't really remember. They where pretty vague, anyway."
Of course, Sei knew his guardian was hiding something from him. It was easy to see with the look that flashed in her eyes for a moment, but he let it go. He was still technically on tin ice, anyway. "So... What are we gonna do with him, anyway ?" He found preferable not to mention what the Medium had said should he fail. He was not dragging his guardian into this.
"Well, what else can we do ? Raise him." Zero said, softly. "I've got the attic I can clean up, for when he's older, but... Where he comes out of here." She tapped the crystal sightly, but backed up after seeing Sei frown. Did he even notice how protective he was of the thing ? Probably not. "...it would be better if he stayed in my room... or yours. That will depend on him. He's probably going to see you as father even if you don't want it, at least when he is younger.
"A father." Sei couldn't help but frown again. How was it supposed to know how to be a father ?
"Don't make that face. I will NOT abandon you on this." Zero said, in her most serious tone. "You should try to think up a name for him, but for now, go sleep."
Sei nodded, went to his feet, and began to walk torward the staircase. Oddly, he felt... almost better about all of this now that he let it out. He stopped midway into the stairs and peered down. "Am I grounded ?"
Zero rolled her eyes to herself playfully. "You had a good reason, and you had Riven with you. Go sleep." She said softly.

A father.
The thought would not leave his mind. He was.... going to be a father, and there was no possible way to avoid it. How was he supposed to know how to be a father ? While he had one... well, he had no idea what a father was supposed to do. The closest he could consider a father was Wren - but he was fairly distant to begin with. He wasn't prepared to this.
And in his mind, he was completely screwed. He couldn't sleep - so he made his way downstairs in the darkness, careful not to make any loud sounds what would wake anyone up, but once he turned his way to the living room, a faint glow made him notice that he was not alone. He couldn't help but peer a bit toward the phoenix sitting on the couch - one part from wondering if she was sleeping, the other wondering how she wasn't setting the couch on fire.
One purple eye opened lazily, glowing a bit in the darkness. "Not sleeping yet ?"
"I didn't wake you, did I ?" Of course, detourned the question. Aylen kept in her sigh.
"No, no. I don't sleep here. I was meditating." One wing unfurled from her body. "Havn't in a long time. Something's on your mind ?"
How odd. He hadn't thought about her meditating. Was it part of her priestly training thing ? He thought about dismissing the question, but he knew she would not give until he relented, and decided to prevent the argument. "Yeah, a bit."
"Come sit." The phoenix answered softly. "That pendant of yours, yes ?"
Sei did so, looking a bit dumbfounded. "How did you know ?"
"I saw Zero at work in the attic and I guessed. What's wrong with it ? It is sick ?" Aylen peered toward it, beak almost in contact with the smooth crystal.
"No, at least... I don't think so. Im just... Not ready for it. I didn't ask to become a father."
"Ah, of course. But who told you you had to be a father ?"
"That creepy lady said I was a father..." He announced.
"Of course, there is a link, and you are the one to mainly raise it, but... That doesn't mean you're have to have him see you as a father if you do not feel comfortable as such. Zero's adopted us both, she is raising us both, but she's not truly a mother to either of us, is she ? Would you feel better seeing him as a little brother instead of a son ?
Sei felt silent for a moment. He hadn't seen things this way, actually... "....Maybe. I know how to be a brother, kinda."
"Then tell him. Children are smarter than most would think - if you tell him you are his brother, he will see you as a brother. Of course, he will depend on you as a child will depend to his parent, especially once he is just born... but with time, why not ? I have... seen many children raised by their sibilings, on the other side. After the parents died. They seemed to be doing well enough." She sighed - a memory she wished to forget... "The type of bond isn't really what's important, as long as there -is- some kind of loving bond in between the both of you. How you both decide to call it doesn't really matter in the end. Have you decided on a name yet ?"
"I... I guess..." It felt very odd, of course, to receive advice so freely. Then, he felt silent, pondering the last question. "No, not yet. I've thought about it a bit, but I've never had to seriously name someone before."
"A name doesn't need any big meaning or anything - I mean, how many children actually end up being like their namesake ?" Aylen did what came closest to a grin with her beak. "I doesn't need to be exotic either or anything. Just something that feels right."
Something that felt right. Sei remained silent, and thought for a moment. Suddenly, an idea came to him, with a small, amused grin crossing his features. "Why not Alden ?"
Aylen rose an eyebrow, but seemed to miss the similarity. "Doesn't sound that bad, but what if it's a girl ?"
"It's a boy, I've already been told." Alden. The more he thought about it, the more it grew on him. "I should go ahead and sleep a bit. You, too." He teased, getting up and walking off, only to stop at the first step of the stair to look back at the faint glow of the phoenix's feathers. "...Thanks. I... I guess I might have needed this."
And so he was up the stairs before the phoenix could answer, Aylen remaining motionless, eyes slowly closing again. It had been hard enough for him to open up, even so sightly - better not insist on it.

It was a quiet little afternoon - Sei had done some chores with the other children and now he had the rest of the day free. It was a toss-up in between the arcade, or staying in his room playing games, or surfing the internet. He decided on the second option - he didn't really feel like going out again. So he did as usual - tossed cushions and sheets in the middle of the room in a pile. This wasn't for his comfort, however, and he knew well, from the feathers and the purple eyes he saw in the crack of his sightly-open door. He paid it no further mind, as always, as he took a specific case from the bookshelf he used to store his games in - this was Aylen's cue to slip in and pretty much nest into the bundle of cushions and sheets. This amused Sei greatly - a phoenix nesting ? - but he kept his amusement hidden. Aylen was hanging out with him alot, ever since Ronen became busier, but the fa'e did not mind much. He guessed she liked seeing him play Kingdom Hearts because of all the Disney stuff in it. She was such a closet Disney fan.
He sat beside her after putting the disk in and starting up the console, but he was starting to feel... tired. This was odd - it was the afternoon, and he had NEVER been tired so early before. He did his best to ignore it - had to be his mind playing tricks on him, so he did his best to focus on his game.
However, it did not take too long for the phoenix to notice. There was... something odd in the air. Like a spell building up energy for a release. And Sei... "Sei ? Are you okay... ?" She said, worried.
"Im... Im not sure..." He admitted, and then... it happened. Suddently, it felt as if all his energy was snapped from him. He couldn't stand, he couldn't move, he couldn't...
The last thing he heard before he felt asleep was Aylen screaming his name.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was only black, at first. Black and nothing else but him. This reminded too much of... that one time, before he grew, and he did NOT like it. What the hell was going on, now ?
"ANASTACIA !" He found himself screaming, without meaning it. The last few months had taken it's toll. "Why am I here ?! Let me out !"
But there was no answer. She wasn't there. There was no sign of her. The child grumbled to himself, but then, he figured something odd.
The void... unlike the one the girl had created for him... This one... was moving, cloud after cloud of darkness. Darkness, no... Shadows navigating in darkness.
Shadows... ?
Then, nothing else existed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was the panicked voices of two ladies that slowly stirred out of his sleep. No matter how long it had been, his body complained that it had been all but TOO brief - What WAS going on ? He had never felt like this before ! He never got sick, and he sure never got THIS tired...
"Sei !" Zero was the first to react when mercury-colored eyes opened. "Are you okay ?!?"
"'m tired..." It was all he could say, really. He wanted to at least sit up in his bed but he didn't find the will to do so. Suddenly, however, Aylen's eyes widened, hands going over her beak in shock. "Oh no, I broke him !"
The fa'e was just about to retort that he wasn't broken, but a sudden swirl caught his attention. On his chest laid the crystal.... but there was a very noticeable crack on it's surface, and a soft purple mist waving out. So, this was what happened... Was it why he felt so tired ? He will feed off your own energy... Or something among those lines. He remembered quite clearly. The blonde boy attempted to sit up, but the only thing that kept him from tumbling was the phoenix's quick reflexes, in putting her staff down for him to grip on and slowly use the pull to move into a sitting position, back laying against the wall for support. He hated this already. "No, no, it's fine... That was supposed to happen. He's okay."
"But what about you ? Was THAT supposed to happen ?" Zero said, watching the two children worriedly. Thank good for Aylen's training, she couldn't help but think. That girl had reflexes that some adults could only dream of having. "You should rest."
"It might be an after effect of that soul thing." He couldn't hold on anymore - he let go of the staff and let himself fall back into a laying position. Clearly, even he knew better than to argue.
"Come on, Aylen. Sei needs to rest." Zero said softly, turning the ps2 and the tv off on her way out of the room, followed by the phoenix that kept sending the fa'e worried glances.
If Ronen was too busy, and Sei was sick... Who could she talk to, now ?

Quote: I really, really want out of bed, but I can't. My legs are wobbly and I hate it. It is how people feel when they're sick ? I don't envy them at all if it is. I can at least sit and write on my laptop, it's better than nothing. I've tried to type with my mind again but it wouldn't do anything - maybe I am too tired for it to work correctly ? Bah, I don't need to make myself more dizzy than I am anyway.
It's very wierd. I want to be angry, or at least annoyed at Alden for doing this to me, but I can't. Im not too sure why... Seeing that little wisp of smoke oozing from the crystal is kinda freaky. Like a mental kick to the face that there is something alive in there... I even catch myself talking to him when im half asleep, without really realizing it. It's kind of stupid, I mean, I am talking to a swirl of smoke ? Does he even understand me ? Beh... Maybe it is just the boredom speaking. Hopefully it won't be as bad when he does... whatever he did again. And hopefully ill know beforehand. That dreamscape thing was freaky.
I should lie down again.

Sosiqui Riven floated uncertainly up to the front door of Zero's house, wondering if he was doing the right thing. After all, it wasn't certain that the boy's crystal had cracked at the same time his had... but even if it hadn't, he could at least warn the other Fa'e about what was coming. The crystal in question was still around his neck, but now there was a mesh bag cupped around the pendant. The spirit inside drifted here and there, but Riven was more comfortable with it being sheltered... even if it was only an illusion. "Alrighty... let's see if your 'brother' is awake yet, shall we?" Riven murmured at the crystal, and knocked. Zero Dream There was the sound of someone running down a set of stairs, and, when the door finally opened... There was no one there ? Or, rather, there was someone there. She was just relatively short. The girl (who looked like a anthro phoenix) looked up at Riven curiously. "Hello ?"Sosiqui Riven blinked at the unfamiliar face; he'd met Zero briefly here and there, but this girl was new to him. "Ah... hello," he said, smiling at her. "My name's Riven... I'm a Fa'e. Is Sei around?" Zero Dream Aylen seemed to become a bit more open once she finally knew who this strange purple person. "Oh, so you're Riven ? Come in." She said, standing aside. "M'sorry... Mom's out right now, and she told me not to let strangers in... im not sure if Sei's awake." She said, a worried look in her purple eyes, until she finally noticed the pendant. "Oh, you have one of those things, too ?! Maybe you can help then." She turned, taking the staff she had left at the bottom of the stairs before motioning the spirit fa'e to follow. Sosiqui "That's what I was hoping to talk about, yeah... what do you mean, help? Did something happen?" Riven frowned as he followed the phoenix child. Zero Dream "It cracked." Aylen announced simply before stopping in front of a door to tap it with her staff a few times - her version of knocking. "Then... Sei just got really tired and he doesn't really look like he's recovering." One last tap, then she gently turned the doorknob so peer inside. "Sei ?"Sei slept very lightly - the knocks where moreso to wake him up than anything else, as proved when he already had his eyes open. "Is Zero back yet, Ayl ? Oh..." He finally noticed the figure behind the phoenix, and tried to stir to sit. "Hey, Riven...""Stay down. Don't tire yourself out, now." The girl said sharply. And oddly enough, he decided to obey. That girl might make one hell of a mother one day. Sosiqui Riven's brow creased with worry, and he immediately drifted over to the side of the bed and floated downward, coiling his tail in his best approximation of kneeling. "Hey... are you okay? She - sorry, I don't know your name," he added, apologetically, to the phoenix. "She said that the crystal had cracked... mine as well. That's why I came." He held up the necklace with the mesh bag over the pendant. The spirit inside seemed to be pressed up against the mesh in what might have been curiosity, though while it certainly could have passed through the mesh it didn't seem to want to. Zero Dream "Aylen." She said, before turning. "Just let me know if either of you need anything." And so she was gone, closing the door behind her. "They say *older* sibilings are overprotective..." The fa'e muttered to himself, still feeling a bit snappish, before he slowly managed to sit and lean his back against the wall. "Yeah, he cracked..." He said, holding up the crystal for the spirit fa'e to see better. The mist, likewise, peered directly to the other spirit's direction, but kept his distance. "Did it kinda... make you sleepy when it cracked ?" Sosiqui "Yeah, it did, but I figured out what was going on pretty quickly. It's all spirit-stuff, so I could see it..." Riven peered curiously at the small purple spirit hovering around Sei's crystal. "It didn't put me in bed, though! I was there already," he added. Zero Dream "Well, to give you an idea... It cracked yesterday. Im still tired." The blonde pondered for a moment. "Maybe it's because im just a kid. Guess I got less soul-energy thing." Oh, damnit, he hated to admit it. He couldn't help the pout that followed. Sosiqui Riven grinned, but nodded his head to acknowledge that he caught the pout. "Maybe. It's nothing to be embarassed of, though. If anything, it's that woman's fault for sending the crystal to you," he added, shaking his head. He still didn't think the Medium should burden young ones with children! "She should have warned you more, sheesh." Zero Dream "If that's what it took just to crack it, im not really looking forward to how my body'll take it once Alden decides to come out." He sighed. Sei clearly wasn't used to be bed-bound - who ever heard of an android being sick ? "Have you thought about a name yet ?" He asked, curiosity slipping in his voice without him really noticing it. "We've decided we're gonna raise Alden as my brother for... obivious reasons." Sosiqui "A name? Um... no, not really," Riven said, abashed. "I guess since it has a second chance and all, that maybe it would come with a name like I did." He squinted dubiously at the spirit, letting his spirit-sight slip a bit so he could see the stronger aura, and the small thread where it ran out to leech off of his own energy. "I've never named anything myself... my daughter Airyn was named after Airi and Glee's mother, Svrellia, so it doesn't count because I took the names from somewhere else." Zero Dream "Don't tell her..." He winked. "But I thought up a name by tweaking Aylen's a bit." He closed his blank eyes, pondering for a moment. "I figure that if he has a name, he'll let us know somehow." Sosiqui Riven smiled. "Okay... I guess I'll have to try a little harder then, since I don't have anyone whose name I could steal that wouldn't guess outright!" Oh, he could just imagine if he named the spirit 'Kuri' or something; Kurrin would have an absolute fit. "I tried to do what I could with the little thing, but nothing happened," Riven admitted, glancing at 'his' spirit once more. "Maybe it's because it's the spirit of a very young child, not mature enough to understand me..." Zero Dream "Maybe. You would know better than me." The boy shrugged. "I... can catch myself talking to him when im half-asleep. Kind of odd." He admitted. Sosiqui "Spirits can do weird things, if you're not used to them," Riven admitted. He hadn't felt what Sei had, but then again he was accustomed to dealing with his own kind, as it were. He looked closer at the purple wisp around Sei's crystal. "All I can tell about yours is that it's sharing your energy, and you knew that... but it should get better soon, right?" Zero Dream "I do hope so... I hate feeling like this." The boy let a sigh escape. So I've just learned, anyway. Makes me feel kind of useless, I can't help around the house or even do anything but sleep. It's been getting better, I guess." Sosiqui "It won't last forever. It can't - they can't eat our energy forever. Eventually they have to form their own and pull themselves into the real world as kids, right?" Riven looked worried, though. If just cracking had laid Sei out this bad, what would happen if the same thing occurred when the spirit changed into a real child? "But you're just tired. It's not that bad," he offered with a helpful smile. Zero Dream "I guess it's just... that im not used to it." He admitted. "I've never been sick... or that tired... or anything like that before. Never thought it would happen either. Guess I was wrong."He paused for a moment. "It's not as bad when you have someone to talk to that doesn't freak out if you try switching positions." Sosiqui "Switching positions?" Riven looked confused. Zero Dream "Sitting down. Turning to the other side. Things like that. Clearly I am "gifted" with overprotective ladies." Sei attempted to hide his yawn, but failed - miserably. It looked like he was getting sleepy again. Sosiqui Riven carefully uncoiled and rose up to his usual cruising altitude. "If you're feeling sleepy again, I should go - sleeping is probably the best way to get your energy back," he said, sympathetically. "Be careful... it might be worse when the spirit turns into a child. Little brother... huh." Zero Dream "I guess so... And im expecting it will at least be something similar. Zero went to see a friend of her's that good with magic and bonds like that - said he might be able to help."Sei just kind of slid back into a laying position again. "Ill be fine... I think."

Are you sure you're okay ?"
Sister, pot of glue ? You decide. Sei grinned a bit to himself at the thought. "Im fine, really. Beside, im not going far. Just listening to music outside."
"Hm." A simple answer - but it was clear in tone that it was more of "I am watching, and if you are being stupid, you are so going to eat it."
Aylen would probably make one hell of a mother one day.
Sliding the headphones back on pointy ears, Sei slowly made his way outside. He would be the last to admit it, but his legs felt a bit wobbly still. But as long as he didn't *look* like it...
The last of the snow had finally melted outside, in the time he had been confined to his room. This heralded the start of spring. To Sei, it didn't really mean the return of warm temperature or anything like that - it mostly meant that the sky would change from a gray to a more vibrant blue, and that no more shoveling would really be needed.
Isn't spring also heralded as a season of rebirth and change ? ...How ironic, he sound himself thinking, as he sat the the wood and chain swing in the backyard. Wren had made it for when his little one would grace the world, but it had 3 seats and the little one wasn't there yet, so he saw no harm in occupying it until then.
Unlike Riven, Sei didn't really keep the purple mist around the black crystal pendant into anything - didn't find the need to, and the mist did sometime get... curious, like how it seemed to peer at the chains sightly.
"That's a swing." He said, making sure there wasn't anyone around to see him talking to... well.... a wisp of smoke. He still felt a bit crazy for that. Of course, there was no answer, and Alden only peered back toward the stone.
It felt good, at least, to be able to get out again, the fa'e thought. There was to hoping that the event would not repeat itself...

Sei, every now and then, found himself staying in his room alone, going trough drawers and closets, just looking trough about anything that he had held on to so far. It was usually in those times, alone, and "safe" in his own room, that he allowed himself to live trough things. This time, he had ulterior motives beside sheer nostalgia - he had to see if there was anything there that could be of use for Alden once he... did his thing.
A starry blanket was found and put aside, as well as a few stuffed toys. A few more trinkets went back in the drawers, to be kept for himself alone. It might have sounded weird to anyone for the young boy to find himself a bit nostalgic over these trinkets, some that he had almost forgotten he processed. But Sei somehow found the feeling founded, somehow - he always had felt a bit older than he looked and then, his life had taken twists and turns that boys his age usually didn't have to go trough. Or at least, would never have to go trough, in a perfect world.
It was then that he had found it, safely tucked away into the envelope that the valentine present had came in with. The incense was burning on top of his desk, so that was not what was inside. No, it was a feather, long and pristine, white tipped in gray. The boy's eyes softened. How long has it been ? And still no news... and still no clue, no way for him to go and effectively look for her, else he become lost himself.
He smoothed the edges of the feather softly, slowly, as if it might have cumbered down into nothing at the slightest thought, then put the envelope back in, rising on his feet from his crutched position to rest the feather on his night table.
"...Mother..." He sighed softly, one hand going to cup the wisp of smoke around Alden's pendant. "You will meet her, one day. I will do everything in my power to make it happen, but... I can't leave, right now. Not with you right there and so fragile..."
Finally, he gathered the things he had set aside for his young charge, and took one more look at the feather. "...I wonder what she would have thought of all this... Would mother be happy to technically have a grandson... with me so young ?" He asked himself, before finally going out the door.

"The attic... are you sure ?""Well, it's the only place we got left. Wren has no place either and just by the look you just shot me-" Zero pointed out, standing on the tip of her toes to place a book on the top shelf. "You're not a fan of the idea at all." That shut Sei up for a brief moment, where he was sightly taken aback. When had he started to be so easy to read.... ? Anyway. "Why not Ronen's ?""He'll be coming home on weekends. I've thought about that, trust me." The woman was sightly dusty, having spent all day clearing the attic and moving things in and out. "I mean, I know it's far up. He doesn't need to sleep in there at first, he can sleep in my room or mine until he's old enough to be left alone. And you can't tell me it's not at least presentable." The woman sent him a glance that almost DARED him to say otherwise. After all that hard work ! But Sei couldn't disagree. Zero had went trough flea markets and sales and had managed to put together a room that would probably have made any other young child jealous. She had stayed in darker, more neutral colors as there was no idea of what the child to come would prefer, and while contrasting, the brick walls and the dark-starred wallpaper seemed to watch in an odd way. The room, while a bit bare next to his own, looked nothing to be ashamed off, as he took a plush cat and set it atop the second story of the bunk bed - to think, how many children whined for one of those things, and Zero had gone out of her way to find one ? After all, she was not forced to help him trough this at all, the thought bringing a small pang of guilt. "You're right, you did a great job. I shouldn't be so critical.""You're just being protective. You want the best for him." And I saw it coming the michevious twinkle in her blue eyes seemed to say. Sei was so easy to read, sometimes. The jewel - and the child, probably - brought forth a protective streak she hadn't really noticed him possess before. "And that's normal, don't apologize." She set one last book on the shelf - leftover books from boxes that she hadn't been able to place downstairs, but that would be moved as the child would fill in with his owns - and turned to face the blonde fa'e. "Looks like we're set, then ?" The fa'e pondered, biting his lip in thought. Room, clothing, baby supplies... that seemed like the core, base essentials where there at last. All that was missing was the baby to use them, and Sei looked forward to it with both a slight excitement and a feeling of dread.

Sei had found himself lingering in the attic-turned-room for a moment, listening to the silence as he sat on the lower part of the bunk bed. Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea after all, now that he had time to mull it all over. It was certainly comfortable - he had open worry about the temperature but Zero assured him that it was all fine. And considering the only concept of temperature he had was pure theory... that, and there was no reason to doubt his guardian. And an old attic sure cast some amusing shadows that would doubtless amuse the small guardian. He found himself staring at them for a moment, idly, then gray eyes widened.
Had that shadow moved ? No, no, it had to be his imaginatio-
Suddenly, he let out a scream as the shadow jumped and swallowed him, and then... nothing.
---------------------------------------------
It was much like the time when the crystal had cracked - the world of shifting shadows. This time, he knew better than scream, so... he waited.
It didn't take long, for a form to create out of the mist - the only clear attribute being twin, glowing green lights. Eyes. Sei froze, and the form, tall and thin, did not move.
...Thank you.
Then the world went tumbling again.
---------------------------------------------
When his gray eyes opened next, he was back in the attic, finding himself awkwardly laying halfway on the bed, and halfway not, yet his body refused to move. Just when the crystal had cracked, it just seemed like he had been drained of all energy.
Damnit.
Then there was a small giggle from his lap, and somehow, he willed himself to look down. There was... dear lord, there was a baby there, with dark gray skin, black hair, some odd wraps on his arms, and wings... wings that shifted, wings that didn't seem to truly exist. And those eyes. Those same, almost glowing green eyes.
"You need to stop doing that." He announced, but couldn't help cracking a smile as panicked footsteps - surely his guardian - started to make themselves known.

Quote: Zero told me that sometimes, keeping a journal for a young child is a good idea, so when it grows older, he or she can read back and then figure out what happened when they where too young to remember.
...Apparently there's an age where you don't remember things much. That's kind of odd to think about, but then I have to constantly remind myself that not anyone is like me. You would think that with how different I am, that'll be easy to remember.
Im not quite sure how this will go, since im quite bad at keeping up with my own journal - but I figured ill give it a try. Zero let me take a blank book from her collection (thankfully my handwriting is nowhere as bad as hers. But please, Alden, for when you read this years from now ? Don't tell her. She'll have our collective skins. But I am quite sure we'll come to agree.)
Well. The first page has photos - it just seemed like the thing to do. The first is the necklace you came from. I found it laying in the snow outside and I had the most weird urge to keep it. I guess im glad I did, even if it was weird. I know that I guess I am technically your father (at least the creepy lady said so - more on that later maybe, if not you can just ask me) but it's gotten much better since I started thinking of you as a little brother. The second photo is the necklace again, but cracked. I was bedridden for a while after that. It seems that every time you change, there's some kind of backlash on me. It seems to be getting better as you get older, and maybe ill't get better
And the last photo as of this writing is you when you where born. You look nothing like me, or anything I've ever seen, beside maybe another fa'e, and I know that's not what you are. You sure love chewing on that little fuzzy basketball Zero gave you. (That's one of your grammas - she's my guardian, kind of like I am to you) Those bandages kind of spook me out. I tried to take one off once, and your arm just kinda dissolved, it scared me, but it went back to normal after I put it back on. You're kind of like Lethe on that. Lethe is my friend, another fa'e, only her arms become water instead of shadows.
You probably think fa'e are a bit wierd - well, that is because we are. I will explain later, maybe, just what a fa'e is. At least, what I know of it.
You cry at night, for no reason at all, but when I take you in my arms you stop. Sometimes there's no reason. You like being in Zero's arms too, but you seem to prefer me. We tried a nightlight and it didn't change a thing - you sure hated it, in fact. I won't try to put one again, it was bothering me too. You're sleeping in my room right now, until you're big enough to go in your own. I kind of wish you'll stop doing that, but at the same time I don't really mind. I never needed all that much sleep anyway.
Man, that entry is sure long. Don't expect them all to be like that.
We're about to go out shopping, hopefully you'll like that. Cya.

This time, it hadn't taken quite as long for Sei to recover. That was the good thing, and he couldn't really complain - trough it seemed a bit illogic to think that a crack had affected him to much and an actual manifestation...
But then, Sei had about mastered a lovely art of overthinking things, which Zero has quickly reminded him as she sent him outside to the park with Alden. After all, the boy needed to go out a bit. Well, both boys, but that was beyond the point.
Sei has quickly noticed that Alden and the sun did not like each other. Or rather, Alden did not like direct sunlight. So he was quick to duck, infant-gone-screaming-banshee in tow, to a park bench situated in the shade of a large tree. This made the little terror quick to quieten and take on his usual giggling dispositions. The old ladies sure seemed to find him cute.
It was a bright, warm day - not too hot not too cold, Zero had said. It felt so odd to have to depend on someone else on things like this - on if he should bring water or not... For the first time to Sei, his lack of feeling temperature showed itself as a setback in his mind. And that was odd.
Of course, with Alden in his arms, he did not get to think about it too long before the boy let out an odd chain of sounds to catch his attention. And the fa'e let out one of his few genuine, deep smiles as he ran his finger trough one of the infant's black locks, making him giggle.
The fact that Alden could melt so easily trough all and every of his emotional walls was also a bit disturbing, but he tried not to think about that. They spent about an hour there - just watching and eventually throwing bread crumbs to the birds that soon made their way to the front of the pair expectively - and when the young one started to show signs of fatigue, they made it back home.
Overall, a good day.

Quote: I am still having issues with this whole journal thing. In my own journal, I do not really mind much, but in yours... it is different. I think it is because I seem to have a better memory than others. You see, at least as of this writing, I remember most of my life rather clearly. Sure, it isn't a flawless thing - but more than I realized you probably will. If I don't note it down, then I guess I kinda feel like I am taking something away from you, no matter how silly it may sound to you when you finally read this. But I don't think you need a day by day play of at what time you eat and at what time you nap... But at least I should note the important things.
Just know that you sleep. Alot. Now if only you did most of that sleep during the night...
I've noticed Wren (your uncle, Zero's brother) noted down his first food experiments with Hana. It seemed a bit pointless to me at first, but then I realised that maybe it wasn't. At this rate, anyway, I will not be giving you much to read, will I ? You drink milk. You don't seem to like water itself too much (can't say I blame you). Zero's gotten you started on vegetable paste not too long ago. You threw the aspargus bowl all over the wall. Zero was pissed and I interpreted that as "do not want." (definitively can't blame you).
Beside that - well I probably should have written that down sooner, since it is very important. You've met your other grandmother not too long ago. That is, my birth mother, Shina. You seemed to like her - she showed up quite late so you where mostly sleepy. But I can already tell she likes you quite a bit.
Now that's quite a proverbial weight on my shoulder. I don't think that could have possibly gone smoother. But that's stuff I may tell you when you're older. I might, however, ask her if she'lld be interested in babysitting...
Also, she has gotten you a present. Well, gotten us each a present, but you're more interested in mine than yours, no ? Good think I took a photo.
It is a little fox-like creature, you do seem to enjoy his company. Not as much as your cat's, but still. I called him Straw, since you're too young to name him yourself. (I know, amazing creativity here. Mine is likewise named Jester.)
