Her eyebrows rose as he spoke. She knew she wasn't the most delicate and sweetest of mares, but his attitude expressed his blatant concern: he was definitely worried about something. Was her sour mood spreading faster than she thought it was? She didn't know what exactly, he was concerned about, but there was something he was feeling that he was keeping from her.
"What do you mean, Jean?" She asked quietly, her body aching with soreness. She kicked at one of her legs, exasperated and frustrated with the chains that held her back legs together, adding extra weight to her already heavy belly. "What's there to be scared of? I'm nervous about giving birth, yes. I mean, don't you think it's odd that a ghost would get pregnant like this? And it's been an abnormal period of time to be pregnant... much longer than the other mares. I worry that something's the matter within me, yes, but scared? Why would you think that?"

He wasn't sure if he'd stepped in a sour patch of clovers. She seemed somewhat insulted by his remark, and he instantly wished he could withdraw the question.. But then again, no he didnt.. He wanted to know.
"You look, worried.. As if you wish it hadn't happened.. I know that look, I've seen it before with some friends of mine.. They gave their mates the same look you just gave me.. Forgive me.. I am merely worried is all..
Besides, I am to be a father, its going to be my constant job to worry over the famile'."

"YOU add on all this extra weight and then tell me you don't have second thoughts on occassion!" she snapped, her shining horn flaring.
She froze, her lavender eyes watching Jean. What had just happened to her? She wasn't like this at all... what was with the mood swings all of a sudden? Was it his apparent distrust in her? In how she felt? The disbelief in her love? She had always wanted babies.. that's all she would ever talk about at one point in her life. What happened to that Nostalgia of the past? Was it all this weight that had slowly added itself to her body? Was it the loneliness she felt that seemed to be happening nearly every night now, as she wandered restless and alone under the moonlight? Or were these chaotic mood swings revealing a new side of Nos... a side of herself that she had never seen before?
Crushed, she closed her eyes tightly, preventing the inevitable tears from showing, and she thought out the next words she would say to him carefully in her mind.
"Jean...when I arrived in this world, I was young. Young and foolish. Since then, I have learned and grown much, some lessons were hard to learn, others easy. Part of me now tells me I was hasty... that my actions happened before my thoughts. Right decisions, wrong decisions, I don't know which is which at this point. All I know is, I'm going to do my damn best at being a good mother to these foals, and I expect and know I shall receive no less from you as their father. And that's all that matters to me at this point."

"All I know is, I'm going to do my damn best at being a good mother to these foals, and I expect and know I shall receive no less from you as their father. And that's all that matters to me at this point." Did she think of him as the type to become the parent who would dissappear and never return? That wasnt him, it never had been. He was a little wounded by the thought, and he wasn't sure what he was going to do.
Giving a small nudge to her, as to tell of his mood, he walked around the mare, keeping blue eyes to the ground. His body was tall and stiff. Giving a jerk of his head, he shook the black curls from falling past his eyes.
"Forgive me."

She saw the sincere expression in his face, and felt a twinge of guilt for having caused it.
Leaning over, she gave him a gentle nuzzle and a weak smile, her lavender eyes meeting his.
"I'm sorry, Jean. I'm just... feeling very weird at the moment. I think I need some rest." She winced in pain as one of the unborn foals kicked her stomach, and hard. Trying to keep her composure, she lifted her head, and searched for a nearby cave or hideaway.
"The sun looks to be rising... perhaps we should find a place to rest?"
Motioning her head, beckoning him to follow, she quietly then began to walk towards the river, knowing of a nearby cave that would provide both of them the comfort and rest they would need... for the days ahead were sure to be eventful.
