Reinna Astarel Don't you know that by choosing to unlock the door to your house and going outside, you are run the chance of being raped? Shame on you for not realizing, and learning to properly defend against it. Next time, just stay in your house 24/7 and bolt the doors. rolleyes Mt grandmother was actually like that. eek She thought she'd get raped if she went to the mailbox so she stayed inside all the time and never went anywhere unless someone went with her.

SterileNeedles ..Le Chat du Noir.. Like what one of the comments said, no matter what the victim was wearing/doing/singing, rape is rape no matter who is raped. Exactly. Because the man doing the raping shouldn't even be raping in the first place. I can't stand it when people say, "Oh she was asking for it" when she was screaming, kicking, struggling, whatever to get the person off of her and says she did not consent to sex...arg It's kind of obvious she wasn't 'asking for it'. I see that a lot more when a girl confesses she couldn't fight or was too scared to. Because, y'know, lying there and letting him is consent, apparantly. Quote: It's sad though, my mother was raped when she was younger, and I had asked her if she ever thought it was the rape victims fault for being raped and she said yes. I think she thinks that because she felt it was her own fault for being raped before. And what's even sadder is when I asked her why she never told my grandparents about it she said she didn't tell them because back in those days it pretty much was your fault if you got raped. So it wouldn't matter anyways. Isn't that just horrible? Happens today, too. That hasn't really changed much, even if it's just the woman's perception.

Just because someone isn't screaming 'no', doesn't mean they're giving their consent. A lot of people don't have the flight response, and will stay there frozen in disbelief. Not to mention the fact that the person could be stronger, or have a weapon. Part of me thinks "How can someone think she wanted it?", while the other part thinks "what am I talking about? People are ******** up in the head!"

Bzuh? eek If there's possibly one thing that I hate more than an un-educated anti, it's anyone that thinks a rape victim is in someway to blame for what's happened to them. some asinine dipshit Maybe the woman should have learned how to defend yourself, not once in history has there been an omnipotent rapist who can defend himself from everything. Yup, because there are a lot of good defences against knives, guns and twenty-stone brutes. And I'd sure like to see the child that's got excellent defenses against an adult. The gene-pool's in need of a little more chlorine methinks.

I vaguely remember something about a legally blind woman who was raped at knifepoint, in her own bed.
Nobody believed her. They actually made fun of her for making it up.
A couple years later, they discovered semen traces on her sheets.

I saw a blinddude show this guy who tried to rob him, quite violently, and then backed up saying "I don't want a fight." Not sure if that relates, but I thought it was pretty bad-a**.

Anyone who would put the blame on the victim doesn't understand what "rapist" means...
Rape == done by rapist Rape != done by victim
-If it is the victim's fault, she is not raped. However, more improtantly: -Unwanted sex is rape.
Do the math, people!
Hello!? What the ******** ever happened to self-control in terms of NOT raping people? Rape is the rapist's fault. End of. So long as there is a chance that the victim COULD have come out of any "potential rape" situation WITHOUT being raped, it is NOT HER FAULT. Ever. Putting the blame on the victim is nothing short of saying that rape is okay, in which case I wouldn't be surprised if rape-condoners become rapists themselves later in life. Hope karma -literally- "gets your a**" in jail, assholes.
..Okay, that was going a little far. I don't -really- hope it happens. No one ever deserves to be raped.
Knowing how to protect one's self is important, but it shouldn't have to be necessary. If people would STOP RAPING (omg), there would be no ******** sexists. "Men are no more able to control themselves than wild animals, so it's not the rapist's fault!!!!!!!" Yeah, bite my a**.

There are different kinds of cane, but the differences don't seem to be common knowledge. Anyhoo, since I figure that any mugger going for me while I have my cane will be thinking 'Easy target, she's blind' . . . . . . . they're going to get one nasty shock when I turn round and whack them in the face with a thin, metre long aluminium pole twisted Oh, and they shouldn't try it with blind people either. They're not as helpless as they seem. And they have a bigger, thicker stick. biggrin

pidgezero_one Knowing how to protect one's self is important, but it shouldn't have to be necessary. If people would STOP RAPING (omg), there would be no problem. Amen. Crime is because of criminals, not because of not "protecting oneself." If I don't lock my house, and when I come home, my TV is gone, it's still a crime. I really don't understand why this is even debated, much less for so many years, with regards to rape.

Just that semen is not sufficient evidence.

I wrteched.
That's so repulsive.
We live in a society that would seriously condone rape victims for not taking full measures to ensure their virtue remains intact? That women should have to travel in packs at all times, or reach high levels of self-defense classes, or carry weapons to protect themselves?
OMG ITS YOUR FAULT YOU WERE RAPED BECUZ YOU WENT OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE AND DONT HAVE A BLACKBELT. HAVE A BABY YOU WHORE.
Honestly, there are some cases where, defense classes or not, you're going to get assaulted.

I get so annoyed at people with opinions like that. Do they perhaps come from some inbred town wherein the joys of education, and possibly women getting the vote have not yet reached confused
It is just taking the blame away from the rapist and laying it on the victim! No matter how you are dressed, no matter what time of night it is, you are never ever "asking" to be raped. No matter what some people might like to think normal men (or women) are not incapable of preventing themselves from raping someone. If they can't see a short skirt without raping someone that is a problem. That mentality is almost like saying
"The Jews were "asking" for a holocaust" - for being sterotypically loaded "Kennedy was "asking" to be shot" - for being famous
EDIT:
Not to mention that even in the unlikely situation that any victim can adequatley fend of a potential rapist - does that mean that the attempted rapists did nothing wrong? No. Is it still a problem even if the victim escapes - yes.
