Arguments like "you could be aborting the next Hitler" are asinine for so many reasons. 1) You could also not be. Whatever. It's way too easy to counter with "you could be aborting the next {your favorite person here}". 2) I don't know any women who get abortions because they're scared they'll give birth to "the next Hitler" otherwise. Maybe there are such women out there, but wtf? This ignores the real issue.
That's usually used to counter the "You could be aborting the next Einstein!" argument lifers like to use. Does that count?

...It's what the person stands for that matters...

...I could jabber on and on about how feminsts should start calling themselves equalists instead of feminists in this day and age and why, but all it does is distract from whatever you are talking about and who really cares anyways?...

And I could argue in favor of the exact opposite: Our society learning what the hell feminism is instead of all the "omg femenests hate men & dont shave" and "I'm not a feminist, but.." crap I see. And owning up to the fact that if you believe men and women share the same rights, you are, in fact, a feminist.

But that wouldn't get us anywhere. It'd just be a name change.

Yeah, I use that arguement jokingly/sarcastically when they say "The baby could have cured cancer!" s**t.

I've seen people use it as an actual argument, and that is what I have a problem with. Using it to dismiss the pro-lifer parallel as the 100% point it is, is different.

Don't mention IVF. Much confusion and slinging of the b-word* Most of them don't even know the basic details of the procedure, yet they try their darndest to argue about it. It's ridiculous.

* Baby. Thought I'd clarify, just in case smile

One word.

OVERPOPULATION.

Goddamnit, that's a shittyass argument. Even assuming that abortion makes enough of a dent in the population to matter, working under the assumption that many lifers use, that fetuses = people, lead to the 'Then would you kill old people/disabled people/mentally retarded people/people in China etc.etc.etc. because the world is getting overpopulated?'

Which it doesn't. Abortion is legal in the US and the population is still rising.

rofl xD

Pro-lifer: "There are millions of babies being aborted every year!"
Pro-choicer: "And yet the world population still continues to skyrocket!"

Can anyone imagine what life would be like had all those millions of 'babies' not been aborted? (if it even was millions) I feel that my personal space bubble would start to get really violated especially after those babies grew up and started reproducing as well...we are like rabbits people...I almost feel ashamed to say that I'll be having a few little scamps of my own someday. xd

I think of that (the overpopulation thing) and I'm sorely tempted to just adopt. But I might want to have some 'of my own' *rolls eyes btu accepts that she may become 'broody'* So I think "I'll just have one. That'll be fine." But no! Then I remember that all the 'only children' I've known were spoilt, pompous brats (not that all singletons are like this of course, this is just my experience of them) and I think "No! Must avoid inadvertently having a brat!"

So far my plan is to have at least two kids. Then they have less chance of turning into the spoilt singletons I know and loathe. If I get broody, I'll have one 'of my own' - if I end up not caring where they come from but just want kids, I'll tackle the adoption system. But I will not pop out more than one kid 'of my own' if I can help it! That'll sort things ^_^

Not all only children are spoiled. I think that's just a stereotype.

But if you're really worried, why not have one and adopt one?

I feel like a HORRIBLE person admitting this... but I think I'd like to have a child someday, for terrible reasons. 1. It would be amazing and make me and my boyfriend happy. 2. We're both redheads and we want to have redheaded kids. 3. I want to raise a sane and healthy child to live on after me. (And be molded by me.)

Those are terribly selfish reasons, right? >_< It's all about what I want, not what the kid wants or how much the planet can support. I feel bad because it makes me sound like a crazy eugenecist selfish breeder who doesn't care about overpopulation.

Nah, I know not all singletons are spoilt brats. Just the ones I've met.

Yeah, my ultimate plan would be - to keep both child-wanting parts of my mind happy - to adopt one and give birth to one.

If it helps, I don't think you sound like one of the creepy selfish breeder types ^_^

I've recently enjoyed saying that it could grow up to be another woman who has an abortion.

How is that bad? A lot of people, pro and anti choice alike (*twitch*) feel the same way for themselves. I believe that if the child(ren) are loved and actually wanted, there is no reason to chastise yourself over it.

They will be loved and wanted, and you'll try hard to care for them (I believe at least) so I fail to see why it'd be bad to want to plan to have kids. It's a much better alternative than a forced and unwanted pregnancy, anyways.

That's what choice is all about, isn't it? Your body...your choice.
