"Well yes but when our owner--.. When our Humans are hungry, they do not tear off peices of our skin to eat." Ansel countered. "To then drink water, any water, is to drink in the very being you are saying is alive. you are feasting from something with a heart and soul of its own." After he'd cleared up the point that he hadn't meant a symbiotic relationship so much as a carniverous one, he tilted his head with a soft, wicker. "And, My Lady, you put words in my mouth. I never said that he was my God or that I believe in him in the slightest. I said that I am told of him and that is the only perspective I had incountered, or had any real knowledge of."

He thumped his tail a little behind him, swatting away a bug that was tickling his flank. It was interesting how defensive she was of this subject, when in truth it mattered little to him. He still did not understand how she could posibly think the river to be alive... that much he wanted to see for himself. "I agree that they are both lacking in any substantial proof, however, thus why I have never agreed to believe in this God my Christien speaks of. He cannot show me proof that this person exists, as, to be frank though no offense is meant, you cannot show any sound proof that there is a spirit in the waters about us. It is entirely possible that they are one and the same."

After a pause, Ansel said a little more lightly, "The journey was a success. Not many, if anyone, ever make it across the ocean, it is to wild a medium. That we are here and alive at all is something noteworthy."

She narrowed her eyes, sinking back slightly upon the realization she had been acting... offensively... almost embarrassingly so. Still, she had to make him understand.

"Do you truly believe... everything is the work of a random force? Some of us just happened into the world with feelings, others not? We're born, we die, we turn into dust and there's nothing more to the world? No greater mystery surrounding it, protecting us, guiding us in ways we can't begin to comprehend? The way water cycles from rivers, to oceans, up into the sky and down in rain? The way animals feed off one another, and yet life always manages to continue, live on in offspring, in a perfect, harmonious balance? That's just all a coincidence to you?

I can't offer you proof, no, but I can offer you pity. Pity that you live in a world where there's no magic, no appreciation for beings so unlike yourself that you simply cast them away. We drink water, but it never goes away; it's eternal, immortal, and probably as old as Earth itself. Imagine the things it could teach us if it only had a voice we could understand.

I believe in invisible spirits. I've felt it since I left home today, just before the sun had fully set; I felt the wind pulling me here, and I let it take me, and it led me to you. ...I now think, that all along, it was trying to tell me that you need my help."

"That is rather presumptious of it, isn't it?" Ansel found himself snapping without meaning to. He cast her a sheepish look almost immediatly afterward and offered her a nod of his head. "My pardons, miss." The brown horse took a moment, letting himself think before he spoke.

Had he come here of his own violation? He himself had thought to be pulled away from the cabins that night, pushed into the wilderness as if by some unknown hand. He had known several celtic decendant horses as well, in his childhood. Some were kept by Christien's step-father, others had belong to other breeders nearby. They spoke of religious forbidden in practice by humans, even though there were still underground cults dedicated to their worship. There had always been something about how everything was alive and with spirit, not just the animals that spoke like they did.

Ansel had never understood. How did a rock or tree have feelings? Did the grass he ate understand pain? It was too disturbing a thought, that he might be just as carniverous as the wolves that hunted them if the lands weren't watched. "I do not want your pity," Of that he was certain, and more than a little insulted that she'd offer such. "Magic there might be, and I am saying nothing is definate. Until I have proof of something, I do not write it off.. but nor do I believe everything I am told. To do that, one must be a fool and of all the things I may be, Madam, that is not one of them."

At this point, Ansel had to consider her again. He let his honey-golden eyes roam across her features, considering her in a way that was neither peircing nor lecherous. She seemed to be a whimsical creature at first, with wings as delicate as a butterfly and looks that could started the coldest of hearts... and yet she was as hard and strong as a winter's wind. It was odd, to say the least, and very, very perplexing. "If you believe in your spirits, then who is to say you're not right? To you, you are... As much as I do wish to understand this, must it be forced upon everyone? Sometimes, other persons are just better left be in their beliefs."

"...I apologize for myself, and for the breeze that lured me here. I'm sure it meant you no harm, as neither did I. I have no intentions of forcing a change of heart in you; it'd be, among many things, futile, foolish and, admittedly, very wrong of me."

She wanted to leave, she really, really did. She was insulted and hurt, and yet equally ashamed of her actions throughout the time she'd spent with the stranger... whose name, she vaguely realized, she'd never even asked for. Perhaps that was for the better; as awful a thing as it was to think, this stallion seemed to bring out the worst in her, leaving her emotionally distraught feeling foolish for believing in something... that she knew deep down was right but... couldn't really begin to defend.

Huyana didn't want this conversation to continue, but up and leaving would only make her seem all the more rude, something she was suddenly extremely self-consciously trying to avoid. Feeling lost, she settled for silence, gazing away from Ansel to focus on a firefly.

Ansel coughed softly after the silence between them had stretched too long. He hadn't meant to embarass her, but the conversation between them had gone from bad to worse. He'd made a large mistake in putting her upon a pedestal based on mere looks alone; this was no angel.. but she wasn't a demon, either. Rather, a hard headed young woman who.. could hold her own in a conversation against him. The intensity of her gaze upon that butterfly hadn't escaped his notice, either.

"... I offer my apologies as well," He began after a time, voice breezy with regret. Slowly, Ansel too took his eyes off of the dancing insect to bow his head low towards her. "I seem to have made you uncomfortable, which was never my intention, nor can it be forgiven. We have, unfortunatly, seemed to have gotten off on the wrong foot, My Lady, and I take sole resposibility for that. Perhaps, if you will, we might try to start a new?"

He paused a moment, hoping her reaction would be positive. He hadn't yet made an enemy here, but he hadn't made any friends, either--Cassandra, with her mild to severe dementia could hardly be called a friend of anything from one minute to the next. The intelligence apparant in this female, despite her odd belief system, would be a welcome respite... He just hoped he hadn't made too much an a** of himself. "I am called Ansel. ... Might I learn your name, Miss?"
