Rachel Collison

At the question, she took a mouthful of her sandwich, chewing slowly and carefully as a sort of way to buy time before responding. How could she tell him that she was sent here by her parents, because they believed that she was anorexic? The way her body was now, she didn't think he'd believe her. She wouldn't have believed that, coming from someone that looked like her. Not to mention, she didn't exactly like talking about her "supposed" eating disorder.

Swallowing her food, Rachel responded with something that she hoped would be enough to satisfy him. It was only part of the story, but at least it was still true.

"Well...I was sent here against my will by my parents about 2 and a half months ago... about a month and a half ago, I had my first change, and now here we are." She looked at him and shrugged, not volunteering any furthur information.

Richard stopped mid chew, taken a back. He swallowed audibly and scrutinized her. "Your parents know your here? I must say that was awfully bold of the labs. It was under false pretenses I assume, but still...." That made absolutely no sense to Richard. "Did they know that Feral labs is involved?"

Rachel sighed, having hoped he wouldn't press her for further information. "Yes, they sent me here like I said. As for knowing whether Feral Labs was involved specifically, I really have no idea. They didn't really let me look over the paperwork. I figure they were or are going to be given some reason why I didn't come back. There wasn't a set time I was going to be here for, so they may not even know anything's wrong yet."

She had failed to mention the fact that she knew her parents had signed over her body for "medical research" if she had died. But mentioning that, she figured, would lead to more uncomfortable questions. Taking another bite of her sandwich, she lapsed into silence again.

"Thats a pity. They seem to have everything covered." Richard sighed and went back to his meal. There was a bit of silence as he ate, trying to think of a way to continue the conversation. "Met anyone interesting here?" When in doubt... Gossip.

Rachel raised an eyebrow at the older gentleman. Anyone interesting? I'd say the islanders, myself included, are more than interesting, she thought to herself.

"I suppose you mean interesting apart from the fact that we're all effectively circus freaks," she said, a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

Richard sighed, his earlier enthusiasm drained away by her bitterness. Then fixed her with a disappointed look. "Yes, besides that." His tail twitched with irritation.

"Well let's see..." Rachel said, giving him a glance, noting his face. She hadn't meant to be such a downer, but she simply couldn't be as upbeat as some of the other people around here. She quickly scanned through the islanders she had met thusfar.

"I've met a former soccer player, turning cobra; a hedgehog lady; a insulting woman, who spoke like a man; and a confrontational octopus man, as well as quite a few others....Thanksgiving was when I saw the one that disturbed me the most...." she shuddered slightly at the memory

Richard hmpfed, He only recognized one on that list. Billy never made a good first impression it seemed. Mostly he was curious as to what happened a thanksgiving as he had been indisposed. "Something bad happen to one of the turkey's?" A hint of amusement in his voice.

"You could say that," Rachel muttered. "One of them was disposed of in a rather...violent and unsavory manner...by a red and scaley islander. It was disgusting," she said, shuddering again.

"Ah that would probably be Zach. The dragon. I avoid the fellow, he nearly took off my shoulder once." Richard's tone was as if he was discussing the weather. It had been quite some time since he had interacted with Zach and no longer had much emotion attached to the incident.

Rachel raised a surprised eyebrow. "Dragon? They're actually turning someone into a dragon?!? And they're letting him wander around other people if he's violent towards them? The people here really are crazy aren't they? Or maybe just doctors in general. I hate doctors...." Rachel trailed off, frowning and tightly pressed her lips together.

"There is one doctor, Sabin who designs people to look like Mythic animals or in one particular case something with no mythical background, just that what he thinks looks cool." There is some particular bitterness at the end of the sentance.

"Lovely..." Rachel said, not hiding her sarcasm. She thought she had detected a different tone at the end of the last sentence, but she couldn't be sure, and decided not to persue it. If it was a touchy subject, it was best to leave it alone.

"Why is it that we are forced to be under the ideas of the quacks that run this place? Were we easy targets or something?" Rachel shook her head. "It doesn't make any sense...Now, who knows what will become of us?"

Richard sighed. "In the words of Dr. Moreau, 'because he can.' No greater purpose than proving the depths of his genius and ego. Why us? Same reason." Richard shrugged. "Nothing can done about it at the moment. You live and try to keep busy."

"That's easier said that done," Rachel said, before taking the last bite of her sandwich and getting up with her tray and plate. "It's hard for me not to dwell on it and occupy myself with other things...especially since there's only so many things you can do by yourself. I never really did like going out in public...but it's worse since my change...I don't want people to see me this way...."
