He beamed at her and nodded, "there aren't many lions here and I've come to depend on your friendship more than anything else." He flicked his ears and blinked his glassy eyes at her.

"Having you here would make life so much better and I know you'll like it. But...what do you think Malik will do? Will he stay here with us too?" It was quite obvious the male depended on being social.

User ImageShe chuckled a bit, flicking an ear as she turned to get another longer look at the landscape. It was beautiful here, she could see for miles out in either direction. A bit cooler than in the lowlands, but pleasent none the less, "I think it would be difficult for you to live on your own as all. You're grown now- and rabbits won't be enough to sustain you. Larger game require a few hunters at least."

She shrugged reguarding Malik, "He's...he's hard to say really. His brother was kidnapped when he was just a cub. He ran for days to try to catch the kidnapper and got himself lost in the desert...somehow..." She frowned a bit, "Somehow he was found back in the pridelands- bruised up a bit -but alive."

Ona frowned a little at the mention of Malik's history and moved to stand up, pressing his forepaws into the water as if using it to cool his mind. Then slowly he turned his head back to gaze at the brown femme.

His smile returned.

"The outside world seems to hold nothing but unhappiness, fear and danger. Atleast if you were both here we could all keep an eye on one another. Protect each other from suffering again." He continued after a brief pause, "Rehmy." He spoke the new nickname with a sparkle in his eyes. "You don't deserve to be put in danger. You deserve to be happy! I'm not saying this place will offer you everything...in fact it might not work out. But atleast it is safe here and you can leave whenever you want."

He shook his head, "I couldn't bare to think of you being hurt again. Not being able to protect you." It seemed strange for him to say this, seeing as Rehema was pretty much the same size as him, maybe even a little bigger.

The Ela were the smallest lions known in the lands and he was a small, stocky male for sure. Yet there was something about his size that made him cute and highly endearing - though he didn't realise it. He had never laid eyes upon the huge forms of the Firekin and until he had met these two pridelanders had never seen an outsider up close.

The world was big. Too big for a small Ela'wadiyian.

User ImageThe lioness stretched herself out once more, licking the meal from her lips as she listened. It was true- the world was a dangerous place. Even those that you trusted at one point could turn on you in no time. Her family was broken. No word of her mother or father, her brother had left at a young age- or was taken like Malik's had been. Even Malik's family was broken, his own father had turned on them. Malik was strong but there was something almost unatural about Mwali's rage and power. She frowned a bit at the memory and turned her head to lick at the scarring wound.

"The world is dangerous... but only as much as you allow it to be. A strong lion could make his or her way in the world if they had the drive to do so. I've never wanted to explore or any of that, I've no ambition to create a pride or become a queen of any sort. A huntress is what I am- either for myself or my comrades." She shrugged a bit, "...Malik's different. He wants the world, he wants to know what happened to those that he grew up with and to see what else is out there. He's always been a bit of a dreamer, a silly heart."

Rehema turned, a friendly rumble accompanying her tone, "But I do like it here... I can see as much of the world as I care to from the higher rocks. It's quiet, there's not dozens of lions to avoid, cubs to avoid tripping over...with how the pridelands were headed- I'm suprised they can even feed themselves anymore." She sighed, "Or defend themselves from predators... no one knew eachother. It was just too large. No organization in the hunting parties..." She chuckled a bit, "And you don't need to worry about protecting me. It's the job of a huntress to fight, it's what we do. I'm happy knowing that my mother raised me to be strong, that I was taught to hunt and fight from a princeling and the sister of a king." She smiled proudly, "There's little I fear...you don't need to concern yourself with my well-being."

Unconciously he shifted closer, head bowed and shadow spreading itself over her.

His clan was all but dead and he were the last alive, but he knew deep down that from the ashes would arise anew. He blinked his glassy eyes and raised his matured face to stare at the chocolate beauty beside him.

His heart gave a small flutter but he was unsure what it meant. He had never been around any other females for long enough to know what it signalled. Instead he could only smile, embracing the feeling tight and never wanting it to go. Rehema made him happy and that was enough for now.

"Would you be annoyed if I said I worry still? I trust you are capable of defending yoruself. Your skill and power speaks it, yet I would like to help keep you safe if I may..." He flicked his ears, "this is my home and if anything happened to you here I'm not sure what I would do."

He turned his head to gaze around the beautiful land. "I want the Shadow Clan to start a new, though how that is going to happen I don't know. Maybe somehow us three together can discover a way."

User ImageShe smirked a bit, rumbling deep in her throat what might have been an amused chuckle or just a sound to aknowlege his words. It was hard to tell with her. She always had a dangerous guarded look in her pink eyes, kind of a critical edge to her expression. One of a huntress- dangerous at all time, defensive.

She gave a flick of her tail and stood herself up, padding her way over to him to lightly bap him on the head. Not hard, just a playful gesture. "Worry when you have reason to. Any other time and you'll never have a moment to enjoy yourself." She nodded out towards where Malik went, "He's worried for his brother, but he doesn't act on it all the time. He's out hunting, and to be frank, Malik is a clutz. It takes him days sometimes to come back with a kill. I could worry but he's a big boy. I'll worry if he comes back hurt or calls for help."

Concerning his clan her expression sank slightly, "I am sorry for your clan. I suppose coming from a place as...populated as the Pride Lands it's hard to imagine, but yes. I think that we can help rebuild it. Malik... doesn't really consider himself much part of any pride but I'm sure we can break him of that. I personally enjoy the quiet here. No little cubs rolling over me at all hours of the day, no more crowded den, over-hunted prey, no more strange faces to learn almost daily." She waved a paw around, "There has to be moderation in all thigns. I think in Mufasa's old age he became a bit senile and forgot about all that."

He purred and moved to rub his nose against the curve of her chocolate neck, nodding slowly. "You're right Rehema!" She reminded him of his mother somewhat, never one to panic, always calm and ever seeing the true path. Rehema would be good guidance in times of need and he was so glad that she had chosen to stay.

"Malik is strong, he'll be okay!" He wished he could help somehow but knew it would be impossible.

"Peace and quiet is nice, I agree. Perhaps it is because my kin is led by many different leaders that we don't have the problems of the pride you speak of."

He paused, "speaking of leaders...there's probably something I should tell you about that." He hesitated slightly, unsure of how to put it.

User ImageRehema smiled a bit, tipping her head a bit to kind of nuzzle him back. Well he was getting to be a bit bold wasn't he? "There's no need to worry about Malik. It might be a few days before either of us see him," she chuckled a bit, recalling their childhood games of chasing small game. Rabbits, lizards, even beetles at times. Malik wasn't exactally graceful but once he managed to land a paw on his pray it was pretty much over, "but he'll come back just fine. Tired and grouchy, but fine."

Her ears rotated back a bit, her expression was unchanged but it was apparent she was a bit curious, "Very well. What's on your mind?"

He looked a little sheepish now, pulling back slightly and tucking his chin up against his chest. For a moment it seemed he would say nothing and then slowly he rose his eyes to meet hers. There was something in those glistening glassy orbs that rang with embarrasment. Rehema was his friend and he cared for her deeply, but already he felt as if he werestretching the boundariesof friendship. Just what to still mystified him but suddenly he felt as if his mother was there, watching over him.

This is the right path my son. Her voice seemed so real that he almost believed she was there, but he knew he was simply reaccounting memories of the past, when she would aid him on his way.

"Our clans are led by the females." He replied, "for they are the strongest, the wisest and the huntresses. They are the givers of life and it is they who pass on their name to their cubs." He paused there, almost in admiration. For what could a male do when the females provded so much? His presence seemed almost pointless in life, though he had yet to realise what he would have to do...someday.

"For the Shadow Clan to rise again we will need a female, a strong female to lead." He eyed her again, somewhat nervously. "You Rehema...you're the only female I know worthy of this title."

User ImageHer jaw visably dropped at the very notion. In all of the time Ona had known her, she'd never seemed to have been taken off-guard by anything, perhaps suprised but it was never something that left her completely dumbfounded.

A leader? Her? The very notion would have forced out quite a laugh if the situation had been any different. A lead huntress perhaps, beyond that simple ambition Rehema could never visualize herself as anything else. She cleared her throat in an effort to compose herself, shifting uncomfortably on her paws, "Clan leader." She repeated, her eyes trailing off for a moment, "Ona... I can't say that I'm not flattered by your thoughts on that but in my experience what makes a leader is the knowlege of his- or her in this case -people, traditions, land, culture." She shook her head a bit, "I'm very flattered but all I know of this tribe is what you've told me. All I know of this land is what I can see from where I've been resting. And there's not exactally a people here per say but..."

She sighed, turning to lean a shoulder against him, "Please don't be offended... but I would rather see you take that title. If you are truely the last what choice does your tribe have? A strong leader must adapt to the situation, any situation. Even if it means throwing tradition to the wind."

Somehow he ha dknown it had been too much to ask but he could not hide his dissapointment. She was strong and proud and beautiful! Everything a clan leader should be, in his eyes atleast. Yet with her words he knew he would have to find another way.

He would find the path somehow. He just had to open his eyes and see it.

He moved to lean his fuzzy head against her neck, sighing softly. "I wish I could see the path ahead Rehema." He whispered, "but it is so cloudy that my eyes see nothing." He paused then continued, "but I know one day it will clear and the answer will be there, waiting for me."

He just knew it.

"No one can see their path. Anyone that says otherways is either egotistical or lying to themselves to pretend they're better than everyone else." She chuckled, reaching a paw out to pat Ona's shoulder. "What defines those that walk a sucessful path or not is how they move through that mist. Some lions'll prowl down it, hunting for something....others slink, afraid of something, others take it in stride, careful and searching but not overly eager for either." She yawned, slowly stretching herself out along the ground. It was getting bright out.

"Don't expect anything out of life, Ona. You'll be disappointed but don't dispair either." She nodded up to the sky a bit, "I grew up being told that everyone we've lost will keep an eye out for you. They know where you're headed in life and will show you where to go if you trust them to do so. I've not lost anyone just yet but it's a nice thought sometimes."

He listened to her words with a greater understanding, saying nothing more. Instead he let his eyes trail upwards, back to the sky he so loved. He moved to lay beside her and with an agreeable expression released a long, deep sigh.

How would he walk down his path? Would it be alone? Or would it be with others...his friends? His eyes traced back to Rehema and in the brilliant light her chocolate pelt seemed to glow.

He smiled softly and lowered his muzzle to lay upon his paws. The future would bring joy...that's all he knew.
