First Contact Agent [Mood:] Stressed
[Location:] Home...
Things aren't looking too good. Just checked the calender, and it looks like rent's due a bit earlier than thought... Whoops~!
And while the landlady is lovely, lovely woman (and baker of tasty delights, although that is a topic for a less desperate time...), she's kinda running out of patience with my late rent...
So much so that it might be possible that eviction could be a possibility.
So yes... Eviction = Bad, Rent Money = Good. And unfortunately, my other jobs aren't exactly paying that well, and I'm not getting paid for my commissions for a good month or so...
However! I might not be too screwed! I mentioned it to Mom, and she said something about seeing an ad in the paper for a well paying job. Although she mostly took note of it since it seemed to be connected one of my ah... older 'siblings'. Since there's the whole "Hey! What do ya know? We're family~!" aspect, which tends to work out nicely when it comes to the 'Getting Hired' department.
Anyway, going to call the number and set up a meeting or the like to find out more. Tell you how it goes later!

Cutting a Deal
"All right, so you're saying that in exchange for raising this kid... I get the money that I need now, as well as the extra money that I'd need to take care of the kid's needs?" Agent glanced down at the paper that had been placed in front of her. The large X that awaited her signature seemed a bit intimidating, although she ignored it as she attempted to see whether there was any more microscopic fine print. Her attention was quickly grabbed by a cough and the man who had been explaining the basic situation had her attention.
"Yes, that's it... Well, there's a bit more to it, but that's the general... Layman's terms for it. It's child support." He nodded. "Now that you have the basic idea as to what's going on, just fill out the paper work and we can continue."
"But what about actually seeing the kid first? Shouldn't we do that before any signing goes on?" Agent glanced back down at the paper, staring hard at it. Something didn't feel right here...
"I assure you, the child in question is healthy and in good condition. And we cannot show you ahead of time, which is more of a safety precaution. We'd rather have a parent secured for the child before even introducing them. Anything else? No? Then let's get the paper work taken care of and move forward."
She let out a sigh. It seemed rather apparent that something was going on... However, as a rather desperate woman, she couldn't say no. So far, this had been the only option that actually was willing to give the money out in advance and was 'employing' her right on the spot. With that, the paper work had begun, and with each signed 'x'... She couldn't help but wonder how much of her soul was now owned by the corporation...
After spending the next fifteen to twenty minutes of signing form after form and asking which line needed to be signed, which needed personal information to be provided, and other miscellanious questions, Agent had finished the paperwork. To say the least, she did not want to ever hear anything related to the words "form", "paperwork", and "please sign here" again.
Not too long after, there was a knock on the door, which was then that a short being had more or less waddled into the room while... singing some sort of wordless song and was followed by another Technician. It was apparent that said Technician was trying to get the small child to quiet down and was failing. Agent looked a bit surprised at seeing the singing and waddling child.
"What exactly is...?" Agent finished the question by motioning over to the penguin child with her head, in an attempt to keep the kid from realizing that she was being talked about.
"That would be your new charge. Her DNA came from an Emperor Penguin. There's a packet of restrictions and guidelines as to what should and shouldn't be done as far as taking care of her goes. Environment-wise, she does fine at room temperature, so as long as she doesn't over heat, she should be fine. You might have to work with her as far as diet goes." The technician that had been incharge of her paperwork had talked without noticing (perhaps because he didn't care enough to notice) that the penguin child had begun her approach toward Agent.
"UP!" The penguin had proclaimed once she was close enough. "Up, up!" She waited for her demand to be met, staring up at Agent. Not knowing exactly whether or not to appease the child, Agent did as was demanded.
"So, what's her name? It's a her, right?" Agent glanced up and down while she held the kid at arms length before bringing her in closer.
"Yes, she is female. And the name is up to you, really."
"All right... How about... Noel? That's a nice name, isn't it?" Agent looked questioningly at the Penguin, who giggled with delight. Whether this delight had anything to do with approving of the name or not, Agent wasn't sure. But it did beat wailing, and that was all that really matter.

"I like blue!"
"I like blue!"
The proclamation had been loud and came rather unexpectedly from the penguin child that now sat on the carpeted floor. She recieved a confused look from her new caretaker.
"You like what?" Agent asked as she glanced over at Noel.
"Blue!" Noel squealed with delight, and then got up to waddle around for a bit. Agent sighed.
"All right. I'll... try to remember that. Now... What do you want?"
"Blue!" Noel chirped gleefully. "Me wants! Me wants!" She jumped up and down once or twice while pointing at one of paintings Agent had put up and out of reach of the child. Agent laughed nervously at the pointing finger.
"You can't have that, Noel. Not for you." She shook her head rather visably and threw in a finger waving as well. If she lucked out and could get Noel to recognize "Grown Up Stuff" from "Noel Stuff", then she might be able to continue her work without having to hoist it out of reach. However, something told her that this was not likely to be happening soon and that some sort of indoor fencing would be a good investment.
Noel pouted and sat down for a moment, as if pondering something. Agent sighed and went back to what she'd been doing.
"I'm going into the kitchen. I'll make you something to eat, okay?" She glanced over to Noel, who looked back at her before answering with a loud "'Kay!". Then, without further thoughts as to what could happen with an unattended penguin, she headed to the kitchen.
In less than five minites later, Agent had suddenly heard a thud, which was soon after followed by crying. When she came scrambling to Noel's aid, she found Noel having landed hard on the ground and a folding chair that was set up right underneath where the painting had been hoisted.
"You've got to be kidding me..." Agent groaned before beginning to comfort her. "Hey, Sweetie. Shhh... You're fine. Just a bump and maybe bruise, right? Let me take a look..." She gently searched through the fuzz to make sure no real damage was done, and found none.
Noel continued sniffling for a bit and Agent tried her best to be soothing and calming. After Noel had calmed down enough, Agent pat her on the head.
"See? That's Mommy stuff, not Noel stuff. How about Nap Time, and then we can make one for you too." She smiled down at her, and hoped that the pain had been more than enough punishment for the situation.
"'Kay..." Noel sniffed and nodded.
Soon after having dropped Noel off to bed, Agent put the folding chair away and searched for some water colors and a brush or too. Not the most fun for a three year old, but it'd do until Agent went out and bought some finger paints.

Schooling Update Agent [Mood:] Creative

Well, it's been a short time since Noel's been moved in. As far as schooling goes, it seems that the Corporation has that covered. Which is good since it'd probably take forever for me to find a school and it keeps her occupied and out of trouble.
Anyway, she's actually been given homework- ABC sheets that need to be colored. She actually does a pretty good job of coloring them, and certainly enjoyed doing that... I suppose some coloring books and crayons are in order. For the moment, she's been using some of my old markers, but... I'm not that comfortable with her using those. Mostly because they tend to bleed through the paper and Noel likes to do them while laying on the carpet... I'll post the sheets at the end of the post with a few of the other things she's drawn thus far.
Other things pertaining to Noel- I don't think she's quite realized how to walk properly... Or if she has... She prefers not to. She still waddles, which is amusing to watch, but... Let's just hope that stops rather soon.
Waddling aside, she's also pretty loud. Not in a bad way- it isn't that she yells... It's just that her voice tends to carry pretty well. I don't think that she grasps being quiet yet...
Of course, none of that's a huge deal right now. After all... she's only what... Three?
Anyway, that's really about all of interest for now. Off to a paint party... That's on my easel!
...

Penguin vs. Machine- Round 1 Agent had been sitting at the kitchen table and was on her laptop when she felt a sharp tug on clothing that was followed by several cries of 'Up! Up!' "Fine, just wait a moment." Agent had glanced down a moment before typing up a few more lines in the program she was using. The tugging continued, as Noel had begun to chant to get more attention. "All right, all right! You can come up." She carefully grabbed Noel and lifted her up into her lap. "Better now?" "Yes..." The penguin child wiggled around for a moment before settling in. She grinned and looked at the computer and keyboard. "What, what?" "This is a PC. You use a keyboard and a mouse, and you can make pictures." "Ooooo!" Noel squealed with delight. "Show!" She waved her arms back and forth excitedly. This was answered with a slight grin and chuckle. "All right then. I'll show you what I've got." After a few clicks, a half finished picture appeared on the screen. The beginnings of a portrait had been sketched out, the facial features of a young woman were made out. The eyes were a dark gray, and the hair was a glossy black and tied up tightly into a bun. The top of a traditional kimono had only the base colors done, the details having just been painted in. "Oooo! More!" Noel let out a sound of delight. The penguin reached to touch the computer monitor, but was stopped by Agent. It was then that the phone began to ring. "Agh, Christ! I forgot about Miyako's call! That must be her. I gotta get this one, Noel. Stay here and no touch, okay?" Agent had quickly picked Noel up and got up. After that, the child had been placed back down in the chair as Agent scurried off to answer the phone. Once she was alone, she glanced at the screen. The image had been replaced with a black screen, empty save for a colorful squiggle that moved all over and kept changing colors. "Want, want~!" She cried as she touched the screen in an attempt to possible grab the squiggle. After finding that it did no good, she moved the mouse. To her surprise, the picture of the woman had returned... But the squiggle was gone! Where had the squiggle gone to?! She moved the mouse around and randomly clicked all over the screen. When that didn't work, she began to pound on the keyboard. After a few minutes of pounding, the regular screen had been replaced, and seemed almost as pleasing as the squiggle had been. "BLUE!" She shrieked happily and giggled. The shriek had been loud enough to grab Agent's attention. "Yes, Noel... I know you like- Miyako, I'm going to have to call you back..." Agent's mind had begun to race when she'd realized that nothing in the room or on the screen had been blue. In fact, nothing in the room had been blue. She quickly hang up the phone and went running to the room. It wasn't untill she was standing in the doorway of the room and saw the monitor glowing a bright blue. There was only one thing she could say. "OH-!"

Artistic review... Agent [Mood:] Relieved...

Fact- Regardless of what might be suggested about introducing children to technology at a young age, always remember that milage may vary.
In this case, the computer has managed to survive. Thankfully, it only needed to be restarted rather than be taken in to a shop. So for now, we'll be sticking to scanning in Noel's art, rather than letting her possibly color on the computer...
Speaking of art, I printed out some coloring book pages for her and those are attached to the post. Surprisingly, she's actually using some colors that aren't blue, which is nice.
Outside of that, I'm still trying to figure out what things she could get involved with that will actually help in socializing her. Swiming lessons is a possibility, since that is one of the things penguins do best.
Other than that, there MIGHT be a art class for younger children at the community center as well, but I'd have to check to see whether she'd be allowed in or not.
That's all to report for now.

Valentine's Day Things...   "Noel, do you know what today is?"
"It's Valentine's Day! Do you know what that means?" Agent tried again. All right, so far her attempts to get her kid excited about the holiday seemed to be failing.
Once again, Noel looked up from her coloring, although this time she looked slightly irritated.
"Want color! Stop talk!" She glared over at her caretaker and decided that she'd had enough of the interuptions. The penguin child got up and after grabbing her markers and papers began to waddle off.
"Do you want some candy?" And thusly, Agent pulled out her trump card. At the very least, she knew this tactic would work. Sure it was probably against the rules, and might even make Noel sick, but... Well... Hopefully she was human enough to stumach the peice of chocolate...
At hearing the word 'candy', Noel had turned around in surprise.
"Candy? WANT!" Noel let out a squeal of joy and raced over to Agent, almost dropping the items that she had been holding onto. "Give?"
"You can have it if you listen to Mommy. Are you going to listen to Mommy?"
"'Kay!" Noel grinned.
"All right then. Today is Valentine's Day. And on Valentine's Day, you give gifts to the people you love." Agent held a small goodie bag that was pink and frilly and held it just out of Noel's reach. The penguin child stared at it as she tried to jump up and snatch it away.
"Yeah... You're not paying attention at all to what I'm saying, are you?"
"Candy?"
"Yeah... Figured it was a lost cause." Agent sighed. So much for that... learning experience. "Here, have the candy and draw me some hearts, okay?"
With the bag of candy now in reach, Noel almost immediately grabbed the bag."Thank yooouuu~!" Noel quickly ran off before Agent could possibly change her mind and snatch the bag back.
"Happy V-Day, kid..."

A Fine Mess Agent [Mood:] tired

You know, I honestly do not remember childhood being this messy. Really!
I mean, I'm no neat freak, but I'm pretty sure that I managed to stay clean most of the time. I'm pretty sure that at least half the time, Noel is covered in something.
Or is trying to make a mess of something else.
I had to gently tell her off about drawing on the walls yesterday (apparently the construction paper I had given her wasn't to her liking...) and right now, she's taking a bath after getting herself covered in flour while we were trying to make cookies.
The cookies ended up tasting pretty good, though.
Oh well... Looks like it's time to ready the cleaning supplies- I think she's decided to finally come out...

KITTIES! Noel sat in front of the computer with Agent standing next to her. Agent was starting up some sort of program or game of sorts.
"See, I bought you a game, Noel." Agent said, as the screen began to load. The screen was suddenly filled with a large image filled with bright colors that seemed to be centered around a pair of cartoon cats, with one being black and the other being white. Noel squealed with delight upon seeing them show up the screen.
"KITTIES!" Noel almost flailed with joy and probably would have done so had Agent not stopped her.
"Be careful with the computer, Noel. It's expensive." Agent sighed and patted her on the head.
"'Spensive... Kay." Noel sat, staring at the screen. "Kiiiitties~!" She wiggled about in the chair.
"Yes, it's the kitties. You can play a game with them." Agent smiled and gingerly placed the penguin child's hand on the mouse. The screen showed that the game had gone past the loading screen and was now showing a menu that had four different icons on it. "If you click on one of those," she said, pointing at the icons, "a game will start up." She moved the mouse while Noel's hand was on it, and clicked it for her on one of the icons. The screen changed to a different one and some incredibly happy and peppy sounding music began to play in the background.
Noel took this as a sign to start singing along with it.
Agent laughed when she heard it. "Well, I suppose you can do that too." Once Noel had finished her song, Agent went on again. "If you click again, it will show you how to play the game. Try it."
"Kay~!" Noel clicked on the screen, and the pair of cats that had been on the start up screen reappeared. This was followed by another squeal of "Kitties!" and an intent stare.
"Well, tell me when you get tired of playing, okay? I'll be back in a hour." Noel didn't respond, she was too absorbed in watching the screen.

The First Recording As recorded through a computer mic
"Noel, talk into the mic. It won't hear you if you don't talk into it."
"...want cookie. Is that me?"
"Yes, Noel, that's you."
"Whoa! ME~!"
"Yes. Now I want you to talk to the mic."
" About what?"
"About what you like to do. About what you've been doing. Anything."
"Kay"
"I'll leave you alone to talk, okay?" The sound of foot steps could be heard, followed by a door closing shut.
"Um... I like blue. An' coloring. An' cookies." The sound of the mic being tapped can be heard, followed by a laugh.
"That sounds funny!" The mic is tapped a few more times, and the laughter continues.
"Um... I like singing too! I'ma turn on some music. Yes, yes..." The sound of the computer mouse clicking can vaguely be heard and some music starts to sound by the surrounding speakers. The sound of some slightly off tune singing can be heard in the background for a while, but not too well, as the mic has more or less been abandoned. The sound of running feet can be heard as well, and is almost immediately followed by a loud thud, some crying.
The sound of some more running, and the door openning can be heard, and then the clip ends.

An Unexpected Call
It seems D-Corp has contacted you and told you to bring your child in for a check up immediately. Very little information was given to you over the phone other than the fact that it was critical that they be brought in as soon as possible.
Once at D-Corp you are directed to Dr. Acklin's office. He's running about writing things down and clicking away at some keyboards. Once he notices you he seats you and your child down immediately to take a blood sample.
The sample is run right away in the back of the office the doctors face in the computer screen the whole while. After almost an hour of being told to wait patiently the test results are finally done and you are told you are free to leave. No information is given as to why you were so urgently called in however you were assured that your child is perfectly healthy and that there is no reason for alarm.
