KitsuneChan8888888 Reason they didn't dub the last season of Sailor Moon was because they had three new senshi who were actually women (in pretty revealing uniforms) but when they were in 'human' form they were a boy band. XD Plus in the final battle Usagi was completely nekkid. Didn't sit well with the dubbers, so they gave up. Sailor Stars! Of how badly I have longed to see this season ;-;.
Does our first anime count when we didn't know that it was "anime"? Like, I'm pretty sure that I always knew they were from Japan, but probably didn't have a term for it then. I'm not even sure I can remember ^^;. I know one of my earliest was CCS, and pokemon was probably when I started to get into a bit more. Digimon was what got me really crazy, though.

I heard that the fifth season played in Italy, and they had an explanation for the Sailor Starlights: "The ThreeLights were boys, and they had twin sisters, the Sailor StarLights. And everytime the enemy comes, they wouold call for the help of their sisters." I think that's a pretty good explanation if you dont want kids to know the "real" thing. As for the nakedness...the least they could've done with that was let SailorMoon wear her sailor suit without the skirt and sleeves. I think they should've done something like that. It wouldve been ok for the kids to watch too, dont ya think?

I haven't actually seen the last season, but I 'read' every episode on this one site that I can no longer find... And I think it counts as a first anime even if you didn't know about anime. ^^ Anime is anime. As for the Italy thing, that is rofl worthy. So clever yet so lame... like the 'cousins' thing... Wish they would've done that here. XD And Sailor Moon being nekkid? I don't think Japan cares so much about that as other countries do, so it seemed kid-appropriate to them. Even here in America though, I was a little seven-year-old accidentally stumbling upon Sailor Moon hentai sites and finding out about Neptune and Uranus being lesbians before that season had even aired here. XD It didn't bother me or ruin my life, so I think we should be less strict...

But then I realized I didn't care, and never continued to follow it...

Geez, 7 is pretty young. >_> I stumbled upon my first pokemon hentai site around 10/11. It didn't exactly scar me personally, just grossed me out. But it fudged up my computer and I got in trouble... sorta. Not my fault they let me browse with explorer on no virus protection. =<
I remember reading about that last season too. You know I'm sure I've seen the manga of the last season translated into english. I don't understand why they could have translated that, but not shown the anime. It's not like anykid can't just pick up a book at the store or the library, especially when the manga is always in the kid's section. u_u;

Most little kids dont even know what manga is. And arent the Sailor Moon mangas rated T? I have some, and I dont think little kids should be reading them. There's lots of "lovey-dovey" stuff in there between the characters. And Haruka kissed Usagi. I dont think that's appropriete for kids to see (if they knew who Haruka really was, of course.).

 I think I've been lucky I've had no 'Stumbling across a Hentai site' experiences, I sensed that it was something bad even before I knew what it meant.
My first anime (before I knew what it was) was The Moomins and Sonic The Hedgehog, I watched that when I was like 4 (I think I watched something else but I can't remeber).
Then I got into Pokemon (me and a group of friends were going to make our own book about it, I did most the drawings), Digimon (only liked and watched the first two seasons) and Cardcaptors ( crying I hate crappy dubs). That was when I was 9 and understood that the anime actually came from Japan.
Then a few years later, when I was 11-12 my friend introduced me to Beyblade and at the same time I got a computer and ended up joining a forum of Beyblade fans 3nodding . Then I started watching Dragonball, Z, GT and developed an obsession over Gohan and Trunks ( sweatdrop ). That was all when I knew what anime and manga was. And now I have watched lots of anime and read lots of manga.

@ Mew Jounouchi: Maybe it is rated T, but it's always near the kids books wherever I go. It's not like most parents check comic books half the time anyway. I mean if its a book of an innocently dubbed cartoon like sailor moon, why should they suspect anything? XD
The sailor moon manga is romancey, but I wouldn't exactly call it innapropriate. I can't think of anything sexual about it, it's all lovey and shojotastic. Even the most innocent mangas have a kiss scene. I can't think of anything more g-rated than Peta-ten and even that has its cutesy romance with an occasinal adorable kiss scene.

(And I dont mean in bed napping. I mean... "in bed" as in "in BED".)

The reason they show all the 'bad' stuff in the manga is obviously because little kids don't read. They only watch TV as their minds rot away. Duh. razz In all seriousness though, the manga is pretty bad. I never did read much of the manga cuz it was so expensive, but I remember there being things like nudity (actual nudity, not the sparkly transformation scene stuff), boys being very close with other boys and girls being very close with other girls, slutty outfits, and blood. All of these things, sadly, are not accepted in American society as little-kid appropriate.

Mmm... no, I wouldn't say that. There is some editing in manga, though that was mostly the old ones like Sailor Moon. The biggest thing was that they 'flipped' then entire book to make it read left-to-right instead of the Japanese fashion of right-to-left. I'm pretty sure they also changed some things though I really didn't get enough into the manga to notice editings... the point is though that the anime is *much* more highly edited. I think the thing with manga is they just don't have as much as a budget or a kid audience when it comes to translating so they don't care about editing the bad stuff so much.
