He was taken aback by her sudden abbherence to his leaving, but it was somewhat of a pleasant surprise... to his heart, at least. Everything in his head was screaming at him to have some common sense and leave before he got hurt again, but he couldn't very well just turn his back on her. A small smile graced his ebony features as he nodded his ascent, cringing again at the slight pull on his injuries. "Very well then, I will stay with you." His emotions were a turbulent mix of relief, disappointment, and happiness- he'd expected to make the final break with her and move on, but he couldn't say he was sorry that it didn't happen.
Pausing a moment to gather his thoughts, he met her eyes with another sheepish grin. "Perhaps I ought to introduce you to a new friend of mine... although she's more of a nuisance than a friend." He shot a speaking glare towards a small bush... which rustled suspiciously as his gaze landed upon it. "All right, furball, I know you've been listening. Come out."
With what she hoped was a placating grin upon her face, the lioness emerged from the foliage and trotted towards her bonded, pausing to plop down on her haunches next to his hooves and shooting a glare of her own at the azure mare that she had heard so much about. "So, you're this 'Miss Luna' I keep hearing so much about." It was clear that she wasn't happy about the outcome of the conversation... or with Luna in general.

Lunathiel's ears flicked to the side in confusion at his words. Someone had been listening to them? The thought scared her, she had been certain they were alone, this was such a private moment after all. As the cat emerged, however, she felt much better. A cat was a smaller threat to her then another horse, even though this one had quite a glare.
"You've heard about me?" She asked nervously. The way the cat spoke let her know that nothing good had been said. The thought worried her. She had figured, and now knew for sure, that Shadow liked her but the way the feline spoke showed something else. Had she really hurt him that much? She had been sure that her words were only a small injury compared to his to her but this suggested other wise. Had she really been so foolish to hurt him so badly?

Shadow snorted disapprovingly at the feline, raising her hoof and shoving her backwards, careful not to actually hurt her, although he did it roughly. The lioness gave him an answering glare, but he returned it without hesitating. Kumori sighed, but reluctantly backed off, snorting her own displeasure as she leveled another unfriendly stare at Luna. Shadow offered an apologetic grin towards the mare, speaking softly in explanation. "I apologize, Miss Luna, she's been rather skeptical of you ever since that incident we had with your daughter." At Kumori's disbelieving snort, he rolled his eyes slightly. "And a little before that, too. This is Kumori, the little nuisance that's been following me around for the past month or so." Despite the harsh words, he spoke of her fondly, although he may not have noticed it himself. He was still in the middle of a glaring contest with her.

"I uh...see..." She said looking to the ground sadly. So she had hurt him. She had hurt him more then she ever thought and the cat was the proof. "I am sorry...for Amoena...and everything that happened I guess..." She glanced up at Shadow only to return to the ground moments later. She couldn't be mad at him. She was trying her hardest but the angered feeling just wouldn't stick. Guilt always managed to seep in and wash it all away leaving nothing but sorrow.

His expression softened a bit, noticing her guilt and remorse, and it tugged on his heart. "Oh Miss Luna, you don't have to apologize, it wasn't your fault. Your daughter has her own will, after all, and I still stand by the fact that I must have deserved at least some of what she gave me, even if I didn't mean it." He offered her a placating smile, abruptly shoving Kumori back as she attempted to resume glaring at Luna, and instead she turned to glare at him. "The furball here holds too many grudges. She's still mad at me for not letting her play cat and mouse with a ferret we saw last week."
"Hey, I wasn't gonna eat him, I just wanted to have some fun with him!" the lioness protested, flushing noticeably when she realized her outburst. Straightening her form, she turned her nose up and attempted to regain her composure as she sniffed at Luna. She supposed that perhaps she did hold too many grudges, but the one against the azure mare before her wasn't one she was just going to let go of.

Listening to his words and his cat made her lips twitch into a half smile but something kept tugging at her heart. Something important something that needed to be said to him and him alone. It was something that could never reach Amoena's ears.
"But it is my fault!" She cried flicking her tail in slight irritation before letting it fall limply. "I got drunk Shadow! I was drunk!!! Amoena and Kwahu weren't supposed to happen! It was an accident! One I can never go back from! I love them, Shadow, I still love them...but sometimes I wish it had never happened. I wish...that if they had been born...I wished it could have been with someone I truly cared for..." Her head was hanging limp now, eyes letting waves of tears pass through, but she wasn't done yet. there was still more that needed to be said. "Sometimes I wish...it had been...you..."
She was a little shocked at her own words. She had been so made with him and yet the moment she let her heart take over that was what fell out. She didn't understand. Sure she had liked him once but she had been so sure that had only been a simple crush but what she felt now was something different...

He had opened his mouth to reassure her and absolve her of the guilt that he was sure didn't belong on her shoulders when her softly spoken epiphany reached his sensitive ears. Abruptly, he froze in place, golden hues widening into saucers as he fought to comprehend her words. It couldn't really be true, could it? Of course he had wished many times that he had been the one she had started a family with... he'd even admitted that to Amoena, but she'd been less than receptive of his words. Could it really be that Luna had wished for the same thing? But... even if she had, what did it say for them? He'd become so used to the idea that they would never be together, had finally accepted it, but what was this going to do?
Kumori was in a similar state of shock, jaw agape, miniature set of slitted golden pupils focused solely on the azure mare that had caused her bonded so much pain and anguish. Rather than be sympathetic, however, she was filled with indignant anger, righteous fury, for once again taking the initiative to break Shadow's heart. It was obvious to anyone with eyes that this mare had no idea what she wanted, and would eventually end up leaving. What right did she have to get Shadow's hopes up like this? He had just begun to heal, to finally move on! Letting loose a low feline growl, she stood up and abruptly stalked off, casting a speaking glare towards Luna as she left before she said something that she would later regret... or at least, Shadow might regret it. She couldn't say as much for herself.
The ebon' spotted stallion barely took notice of the lioness's hasty departure, too swept up in the wave of emotion that had overtaken him at Luna's admission. He had no idea what to do or say, for once in his life, remaining silent for a number of minutes before he finally found his voice again. "Miss Luna, there are many times that I have wished the same thing myself, but right now..." he hesitated, shaking his head as he came to a realization. "You don't mean what you're saying. I know you love your foals, and regardless of who you had them with, you always will. What you're saying now... is just out of regret for something that we could have, or might have shared. You don't need to try to convince me of this. I forgave you long ago, and I let you go as well. I just want you to be happy."

Everything was off. It had all turned upside down. She loved her foals and she must have loved him some place deep in her heart or it wouldn't have come spilling out as it just had. It was so confusing. Did she love hims, did
she not? Was her heart still angered at her daughter or was it as Shadow said and she loved her? Was that cat right for being angry with her or should she be the one angry?
Why were there so many questions? Wasn't love supposed to be an easy thing? You found the one you liked, they liked you back, you stay together. It had always been that simple until now. Now there were too many thoughts, too many doubts, and far too many questions. She couldn't think straight. "Shadow...I'm sorry. I just...need to think for a bit..." She said sadly still unmoving. She didn't want to run off, that had led to far too many problems before.

Although he was still floored by her previous statement, he needed to do some thinking of his own, and offered a slight nod in response, giving her a gentle smile. "I understand, Miss Luna. Would you prefer that I leave? I'm sure the furball is getting herself into trouble, anyway." A sad excuse, really, but he was at a loss for what else to say. If she wanted him gone, there was really nothing else he could do about it.

She paused for a moment trying to straighten out her thoughts. She didn't want him to leave, she had never really wanted him to leave. Not when she was pregnant with Kohana's children and not now that they were full grown. "No..."She said sounding a bit unsure then deciding it sounded to weak she spoke up again. "No. Definitely not...Shadow...I really care about you. I think I always have...you make me think a lot about what I'm doing and I think that may be a good thing." She took a deep breath, questions needed to be answered. To get answers you only needed to ask someone else.
"Shadow...what does it mean when your heart flutters in your chest when you think of a person even if you think you're angry with them?" She wasn't sure if he would have the answers but he seemed to know a lot more then she did. "Does it mean...Shadow...does it mean...that I love you too?"

'Be still, my heart.' Did she know what this meant to him? He supposed not, if she was still unsure about her own feelings towards him, but he was uncertain of how to answer her. He knew, just... knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he loved her. He wasn't sure of her own feelings being anything beyond that of a caring friendship, and to be honest, it scared him. Was he getting his hopes up like this for nothing? Did she know what it would do to him if she went on with this, but discovered that she didn't actually love him? The thought alone was almost more than he could bear.
He shifted uneasily from one foot to another as he contemplated on how to answer, opening his mouth to speak several times before he finally found his voice. "I'm... not entirely sure, Miss Luna. It could mean that, or it could mean that it's simply an infatuation. The only one that can really tell you which one it is is you." He dared not hope for what this could mean.

"Infatuation?" She asked tilting her head to the side. She didn't know the word but it didn't sound at all pleasant. Then there was the way he had been gaping his mouth wordlessly. Was that some sort of sign that what she felt was bad? She didn't think so. She liked butterflies and the fact that they were in her heart and stomach made her happy. It wasn't anything bad even though sometimes they beat about so fast she thought she'd brake.
She giggled and shook her head. Something in her tickled telling her he was wrong. "Shadow...I don't know what that means but that can't be it. Something just tells me it's wrong...so what else is left?"

He smiled, despite the turmoil his mind was in, happy to see that she was, at the very least, in good spirits about all this. It was difficult to comprehend what she was saying, after telling himself for so long that his feelings were completely one-sided. He hardly dared to hope that he had been mistaken all this time... it just seemed too good to be true.
He was, of course, relieved to hear her assure him that it wasn't just an infatuation, but remained guarded nonetheless. If she didn't know for sure, then there was no real way to tell. "Well..." he paused nervously, pawing at the ground as he thought about what to say. "Love is a definite possibility, but there are lots of different kinds of love, Miss Luna. As I said, the only person that can really say for sure what it is is you."

Love. She liked the sound of that. So this feeling was love of some sort, but why did she have to figure it out for her self? She was confused already. The butterflies only made thinking straight a bit harder. What was it her father had once told her about the subject. Something about calming yourself to speak to your innermost mind. How did she do that though? Even if she focused all that popped up were those golden eyes of his or was that what he had meant?
She took a deep breath, not realizing how strange this would look, and closed her eyes. She focused as hard as she could until she could hear her own thoughts rattling about in her skull. She focused on the echoing trying to hear what it was saying but it only made the wings in her stomach beat faster. A golden eye appeared before her and it felt like she was about to lift off the ground. Trying to quell the feeling she snapped her eyes open only to see those same eyes before her.
"Shadow...you said you loved me...and even with Amoena...I think...I love you too. It's what my...well...I guess what my butterflies tell me."

For a moment, all he could do was stare. Even with all his safeguards against getting his hopes up, his heart began to rise above the chains and walls that had held it down for so very long. His breath caught at her admission, and a thousand different thoughts raced through his mind as he considered how to respond. Had he given into the childish urge to shout his joy to all the world, he had no doubt that he would have embarassed himself to no end, but at the moment, he was beyond caring. It took a concentrated amount of effort to keep from rearing up and baying to the sky, but the actions that he did allow himself to take were no less immature.
Giddy laughter burst forth uncharacteristically from the spotted male, dancing in his inconcealable joy as he pranced, for lack of a better word, in a circle around the azure mare before he stopped before her again, a grin wider than any other he'd ever worn adorning his features as he met her steady gaze. "Miss Luna... my dearest Luna... you have no idea how happy you've made me. I feel, at this moment, like I could fly upon nothing but the wings that you have given my heart." He stepped forward, dipping his head to nuzzle her forehead affectionately, closing his eyes as he smiled brightly to himself.
