Sadiki blinked, then giggled. She had been completely off on her guess as to Mel's species. She found her eyes glancing over to Aku, as though she half-expected to see him grow hooves and shoot up in height. She settled back into the ground peacefully, following his gaze to the sky.
"Yeah, that would be nice, if you found the right person." She stretched, her ears flickering as she listened to the sounds coming from the area about them. "Quite frankly, I haven't met many Rit." Her eyes turned a darker shade of green. "Probably because i'm off hunting or wandering or something."
Sadiki's gaze wandered back to Aku. "Please forgive if I am intruding, but... in what way?" She didn't want to make him uncomfortable, and so hastily added "You don't have to answer. I was just wondering." This was uncomonly thoughtfull for the young Rit. She was well aware of manners and poise, though she could only hold them up for short periods of time; her laughter and amusement always shone through.

Aku nibbled on his paw thoughtfully. "...mm. Hard to explain. I just feel so much more at home among Nequus. And I've had many of 'em say I talk and act more like one of them than I do like a Rit, though I dunno about it myself. I've always been around them, ever since my family threw me out. They didn't like my black coat - said it was a mark of a curse. Yanno, what with those black fiends terrorising the area."
He spoke about his eviction without any great feeling. It had been a long time ago, and he had long since stopped feeling sorry for himself over it. Melantho was like family to him, and they managed all right even now she lacked the protection of her father's herd.
The herd.
...oh, no.
"...Sadiki?"
He'd forgotten to warn her.
"If you ever see...a Reya female, a different one from my Mel, with a pale mane and a patched body, walking with a bit of a limp...run. Run, hide, get up a tree, anything. Just don't ever cross her path. Ever. She'd stomp on you soon as look at you if you got in her way. She's...evil. Pure evil."

She cast an uncertain glance in his general direction, unsure as to whether she should comfort and confused as to the emotionless tone of voice. Before she had to make a decision, he spoke again.
"Thankyou for the warning." Sadiki smiled slightly. "I'll try to keep an eye open; hopefully she'll be in front of me, neh? Evil folks are always looking for trouble, so she may see me before I see her if she's behind."Curious, she scanned his body for signs of any marks left by this mare's hooves.

"I don't think she'd go up behind you," Aku mused. "She'd only really splat you if you got in her way. Best to be safe, though. Give her a wide berth. Don't let her think you're there, even."
He'd seen the Commandante lash out with a well-timed hoof at several creatures in his time. Usually they were the ones who directly caused her trouble, but there had definitely been a few who had just caught her on a bad day.
"...Aku? Aku, are you here?"
The black Rit's ears perked up. "Ah, that's Mel now - I'd better go. She sounds like we need to move."
The mare's voice came again, sharp and urgent. "Aku! Come on! The stallions are right behind me!"
Aku swore under his breath. "Sadiki - I gotta go. You gotta get to shelter as soon as you can. Clytaemnestra's bully boys are here!"
And he raced off in the direction of the voice, soon vanishing from sight, hoping against hope that his new friend - for she was certainly that now - would be safe from the casual cruelty of Clytaemnestra's underlings.

Her head had jerked upwards slightly at the other's rather sudden departure, but she understood the urgency in his tone and so did not venture to follow him; rather, she called a farewell after him, and slunk off to find shelter. Her footsteps were light, her pace quick. Sadiki's amber eyes scanned the area around her for the shelter she had been instructed to find, but she did not really see it... she was thinking of her new, slightly eccentric, friend.
