It wasn't so much the tail that was the qualifying factor, some kids were born with tails, so much as the developing wings. Honestly, now that he pointed it out, she could certaintly see the horse like features, almost making it juttingly obvious.

Still it made her stomach clench, an ager brewing deep down, pulling up a single thought: How dare he lie to her?! It was one thing to pull someone to an island and say "Hey we're turning you into an animal, have fun" but to lie about it too? The nerve! Island flu vaccination her buns!

With a frown etching it's way further into her wrinkled face, she took another bite of her soup, a rough and quick movement. If it was hard to see she was mad through the perma-frown that seemed to be there, her tensed movements might portray it, then she spoke, dipping the spoon back again-As angry as she was she was still hungry. "The nerve of him! Lieing to me!" She snorted aloud, taking another bite in the same fashion as before "I'm going to give that gay hippie a peice of my mind let me tell you!" Her voice raised alittle, just press 0 right? Oh yes, she'd be pressing 0 allright... If someone could make pressing a button threatning, she would.

Gaius shifted uneasily, the anger practically radiating from Barbra. Even Vixen, as uncaring about personal boundaries as she was, seemed to sense some of it and hunkered down out of sight beneath the table, carefully out or reach of that cane.

"Sorry to be the messenger... I don't know how much good yelling at Sabin will do you, but I have to admit..." he paused, glancing around quickly, then lowered his voice, a rather wicked smirk curling his lip, "I wouldn't be sorry at all to hear him get an earful for everything he's done."

Sitting back again, Gaius speared a bit of salad from his plate and shoved in his mouth, giving Barbra a knowing smile. She did have a temper, but if it could be aimed the right direction....

"Bah." She gave a wave to his apology, the closest thing to a 'no it's fine' anyone would ever get from the woman.

Though it was almost amusing that he would like her to, that grin, ah to be young and vengeful. "Tsh. You should give him a peice of your mind too, I don't see what right anyone has to stop you! We Americans fight for our rights, free speach and all that!" she preached loudly, chomping down on another spoonful, then lifting a spare hand to give a push to her upper lip, settling back in the dentures that had started sliding in her anger.

"Just cause ya turning into some fluffy critter s'no reason to give up! They can turn me into a goldfish for all I care, I sure won't." An almost southern accent started to pick up in her voice as she continued, seeming to make a few judgements that Gaius hadn't done his share of ranting at this point. Honestly, no one could meet her standards but herself, so it was a failed cause for anyone to try.

But, all that aside, no old woman seemed to be free from the deadly grasp of gossipitus, and Barbra was no exception... 'everything he's done' sparked a curious flame, and while if she could catch what she could as far away from people as possible it was more often than not hard to get anything good from that. So, she'd take the opportunity that presented itself, afterall... this one wasn't spewing satanic curses at her, it seemed to be a plus.

Gaius' expression darkened and he focussed on the salad in front of himself, missing the denture shifting. The 'fluffy critter' jab got a scowl from him.

"It's not like I haven't tried," his protest sounded whinier than he'd intended. "The last time I tried to give him a piece of my mind, I..." He trailed off, a low growl in his throat. His hand tightned on the fork in his hand. "Sabin's good at twisting words... and torture too. But, hell, even he shouldn't be able to hurt an old lady..." Gaius shook his head at the idea. Torturing old grannies, what could possibly be lower than that? Running over puppies?

She didn't even give his shift of expression the time of the day, not that an expression would have much use with that... But that's beside the point. A wrinkled brow raised, "So he is gay?" were the thoughtless words that slipped right out without any hesitation. And not a drop of regret following, instead an intent stare like she'd asked what kind of lettuce he was eating. "Damn gays..." Was the muttered curse that followed, evil creatures they were, obviously sabin must have been one. Long hair + liar = gay. Easy math, right?

Not really caring much what his responce was, she started in again, "But really, what kind of man are you, giving up so easily. You know the men in my day fought for those rights! They didn't just lay over and take it, I had friends die in World War 2 for those rights! And here you are hiding behind an old woman just because he won't do anythign to me, sure he won't, but that don't mean you can just sit back." she paused there, taking to scraping at the bowl as she neared the bottum, and letting him 'think it over.'

Gaius was in midst of chewing a hefty bite when Barbra's question blind-sided him. He sputtered, looking up at her dumbly. "Gay? He is?"

That idea brought a whole world of horrible possibilities... There was the patting on the head... Suddenly, Gaius felt far less clean...

He shrunk back under the lecturing, feeling rather like a boy under the verbal whip of a school teacher. Squirming uncomfortably, he opened his mouth to defend himself, but Barbra's rant continued and he hunkered lower in his seat, a difficult task with his tail and neck, and not very effective.

"Nrr...." he grumbled low in his throat. He hated to admit it, but she was probably right... "But I've already tried... I'm not hiding..."

"Must be!" She reasoned, a surely effective argument with even more effective facts to back it up, but in her tone and posture she seemed to suggest that she had caught him red handed in an act of such ways. In her mind she had... but, long hair wasn't solid proof to many others. Oh if only she'd heard Gaius' story...

"Already tried? Not hard enough! Keep trying! You youngun's are far too weak now adays, what do you think would have happend if our troups said that? "Oh well we tried..." That's not good enough." She scolded, settling the spoon in her bowl as she finished. Atleast she hadn't been attacked and lost out on her meal. "We'd be overrun by Nazi's and Japs, that's what." She answered herself before he could. "Grow a spine, boy." She huffed as she stood up, shifting her cane and shifting a good deal of her support to it.

On a sudden twist of subject, she gathered the tray of food for her cats, giving what might be considered praise after everything else she'd said "Decent fish-picker though. Coulda done better... I better get these back to my babies though, I told them I'd be back soon they're probably all crying for attention by now." she gave a small huff that resembled what might be a chuckle at the thought.

Gaius had somehow managed to almost disappear under the table, except for that length of neck, by the time Barbra finished, looking and feeling utterly belittled. Spine? He had a spine! Or at least he thought he did... Yet he was trying to get a granny to do his dirty work? Some kind of man he was... The accusation rang in his head, now taking on the inflection of Barbra's voice.

It was with unspeakable relief that he watched her get up and make obvious preparations to leave. Realizing he was practically on his back on the bench, he pulled himself back up with some difficulty and put on a pleasant, if polite, expression. "Y-Yes, you best get back to your poor cats! Who knows what could have gotten at them by now, what with the wild beasts running around..."

Poor Gaius... Stomped down by an woman so old she'd be facing down death in a few years, though she might just scare the grim reaper off, that was all beside the point.

But, to her, this was natural. It was all what she'd been telling him to do moments ago, free speech and all that. She probably took that "right" to the extreme and beyond.

Time to go home though, the worm before her was becoming a neusance, she hadn't been blind to him slumping against the seat, just pretended to be. It only added more credit to the spine comment. But... Wild beasts? That nabbed her attention. Her cats in danger?! Potentially the worst thing to say to the old lady, "Beasts?!" She snapped back, appauled, taking a hurried hobble to the door. "Right right, good thing I lock my door, but hopefully they're fine right? I don't know what I'd do if something happend to them! They're my best friends, like family!" she rambled as she neared the door, which eventually faded into a mumbled worrying to herself.

More than glad to see Barbra going, Gaius sat back up, though a pang of guilt did hit him as the old woman seemed so worried about her cats. She was just an elderly woman, after all, with few people left to her in the world... In Gaius' mind, the badgering old lady that'd been verbally abusing him moment ago was once more eclipsed by the image of the idealized elderly, slightly senile, and infirm grandmotherly woman who watched over her cats like she would her children.

"I'm sure they're all safe in your apartment," he assured her quickly, though he wasn't sure she would hear him as she walked off. Then, as if an afterthought, he called out after her.

"Er, uh, it was nice meeting you!"

And out she went without another hesitation, quite intent on getting back to her horde of femine friends. She did vaugly catch what he said, but hadn't he just been the one to invoke the thought that got her worried in the first place? Now, she reasoned, it was just trying to make up for getting her worried. Pish.

Though the 'nice meeting you' did catch her alittle off-guard as she moved out the cafeteria doors. She hadn't heard that in a long time. And she hadn't been expecting it from Mr.spineless back there. So she did offer him a small pause, a shake of her cane in his direction, and a "Yeah yeah." before she was gone.
