im sure we all read it, it's just that you're going against the flow of this discussion and you undoubtedly have multiple people dropping out of their chairs in confusion due to your comment.

but yeah, i really didnt feel like elaborating at the time but im glad you all seem to have carried that where i wanted it to go.

without a clearly defined understanding of what falls under martial arts i could basically shove a tin-can up a drunk donkey's a** while waving my other arm wildly in the air and declare myself the hottest s**t since Lu Bu wink

Jackie Chan studied martial arts, therefore he is a martial artist. However he is not a fighter because he uses his martial arts skill for stage fighting instead of real combat, I think thats a better way to put it.

I mean if you take Aikido, but cant fight for s**t, does that mean your not a martial artist, no its just means your not a fighter.

That's kind of my point. Now this is from what I've heard, he did not take martial arts, but he took Chinese opera training instead. That's the difference I'm trying to get across. Have anyone ever seen Chinese operas?

I agree with most that we need a clear definition of martial arts, but I think if you have had no training in martial arts, but instead, something like acrobatics, then I don't think that qualifies you as a martial artist. Are we at least in agreement there?

Thanks, that clears it up.

I knew he'd had some kind of formal training in a martial art but I had no idea it was hapkido

Actually that was one thing that really stumped me. These chinese magazines never mentioned much of this. I stand corrected.
