As happens with many cases, a briefing of the situation crossed the desk of Apaffe Schimp, the stooped coordinator of Department 5. He tapped the base of his cane against the floor several times, thoughtfully.

"What is it?" A japanese woman leaned over from her perch on the side of the table. Her clearly cybernetic ocular implants were oriented away from the document, towards the monitor which dominated most of the office. It depicted several D5 agents readying themselves for their current mission. The monitors marked them Riley Trachtenberg, Alexander Edwards, and Leandro Guerra, with Nida Rocheron and Kory Mouhadi sharing the bottom right corner of the screen as they consulted on the data.

"There's something about this that doesn't quite seem right Kata." His words were slow and thoughtful, as if they were sliding slowly along a taut string. "While you're out, have the team follow any leads they can find concerning the incident at East Aekea. Work this case alongside your current one."

"Roger that, chief." She gave him a smart salute, hopped off the desk, and slipped through the office door.

"Round One. Fight!"

"The star that shines in the night skyyyyyyy~!" A graceful arm craned back, carrying with it a preciously held toga-clad brunette doll. "Onegai!! Shed your light upon my Chosen One~! Sentaku!" Eileen cried out, while hurling the doll towards the glowing Layer barrier, "FAAAALL IN!!"

Explosions of thunder and lightning flashing marked the entrance of Eileen's doll into the Angelic Layer game table. The serene, softly glowing surface erupted with thick cords of electricity which flashed out to meet the now animated toy. No longer just a doll, the Angel known as Sentaku looked up, brilliant green eyes flaring as the violent energy surrounded her in mid air. Brunette hair flared to golden. With her toga fluttering viciously all around her, she brought her cylinder'd limbs forward, then with a sharp battle cry, suddenly thrust all four limbs out, dispelling the energy. She clanked heavily to the ground.

It was the national championships for Angelic Layer, and Lieutenant Eileen Patterson of the ASDF was returning to the game after three year long absence. She had played, and dearly wanted to return to competition, but the move from Japan after high school had made that impossible. However, recently the Angelic Layer competition circuit had extended to Gaia, and an all too eager and happy Eileen had rushed down to Isle de Gambino's Casino to participate.

The opposing Angel was a Reflex type...one of the few types of Angels that Sentaku had a hard time dealing with. Eileen had designed the Electric Angel with Power and Defense in mind...not Accuracy. As the crowd roared all around them, the two Deuses (the players who controlled the battling Angels) put all their soul and art into the fight.

A kick flashed out from the opposing angel, smashing hard into Sentaku's knee. Eileen and her angel cried out. One in outrage, one in pain. The lieutenant flashed a look towards the opposing deus. He was a newcomer from what she could tell, and wasn't playing clean. If he kept that up, Sentaku would be in the repair shop for days. She needed to act....but she'd seen no openings. His angel just dodged too effortlessly, and with Sentaku's trademark red cylinders weighing her response times down, her usual strength and defensive prowess was doing her little good. She blinked. Then she nodded once to herself.

On the Layer, Sentaku stepped back from her opponent, breathing hard and limping a little. Then she smirked at the dodgy lanky thing facing her. With a slightly electronic tinge to her voice, Sentaku inquired, "Is that the best you can do?" *kaklick* *CLANK* *kaklick* *CLANK* *kaklick* *KuCLANK* *kaklick* *KeCLANK* Suddenly, Sentaku was on her opponent, raining a flurry of blows down upon him. Eileen was certain that the next blow would finish him, and then the time over buzzer sounded.

She pulled off her visor, and breathed a sigh. This was going to be a tough match...and tougher still to keep this person from hurting poor Sentaku! She started to get up to take a brief walk, when she noticed her wrist comm flash to life. She set the feed to text, and read the details with growing alarm. The final standing order made her breathe a small sigh of relief. No need to scramble...just...don't engage civilians. That should be easy.

"HEY!" The other deus stalked towards her. She blinked and shut off her comm. "What the hell was that, huh?" He looked very much like the sort of thing she should be avoiding suddenly, and shy mode suddenly kicked in. She crept out of her chair and stood facing him...or somewhere between him and the ground. "...ano...what...?"

"I just saw it on the TV! One of your guys shot that charity girl!"

She shrank back just a little. "...ano...i just found out too...i don't know what's going on yet..." Is this why he was being so cheap in the Layer?

"Bull! I SAW you with your little d**k Tracy watch! You were talking to them just now! Lying little...$#!+! I'm going to tear your little Angel apart in there!" And with that, he stalked off.

For the first time in a while, Eileen wished she hadn't worn her ASDF uniform outside.

"Deuses are you ready?! Round Two begins in just five minutes! To those just joining in, Sentaku and Vigil had a spectacular first round..."

Talon had seen advertisements for the AL competition and decided to stop in while on patrol. The imposing battle suit stood out in the crowd of spectators in the casino. He saw on e of the competitors in an ASDF uniform. Hmmm...didn't think to see any body here after what happened... He walked closer to the officer and, seeing that she outranked him, snapped off a crisp salute. "Ma'am."

Thrie peeks through a giant hole in the wall and into one the tavern. He walks around it and enters through the front door. He grimance at the hole and comments "Who's the unlucky drunkard to piss of The Hulk by mistake?"

Thrie didnt wait for the answer knowing he may be a stranger and these gaians will be less prone to answer so freely. Sitting down, he orders an old cocktail that wasnt heard of before. This time, adding a few twists, he bought the entire tavern a few rounds.

He wasnt quite cool with this idea but whats better then getting info from people who has one too many drinks? The tavern wasnt as loud as he had hoped. With this much of inactivity, they might not even talk when they're drunk. Looks like he'll have to play another hand to make things rolling agian.

Finding the most cheerful and farmer image person, he sits next to him and waited for him to get into the mood. Catching a pause from the target person, Thrie starts humming a familiar tune.

"Hrm?" The cheerful farmer who was a factory worker that was fired, looks over at Thrie "Boy'o, if i 'ere you. I Ooldn'y hum tha' zong. Long forgotten tiz athem but ze song really good, indeed. Ha! Tis was the good ole days! I mean... all me friends... singing. Tis was reflective. Its goes 'Almost heaven.... West Aekea. Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River. Live is old there, older than the trees. Younger then the mountains, growing like a breeze.'

Thrie smiles and wraps his arm around the old and retired factory worker to sing along "Country raods, take me home. To the place, I belong. West Aekea, mountain Manna. Take me home, Country roads."

Another few drinkers joins in and attempts to get the record player to work. After many attempts, a good whack over the motor got it back to live. The old song plays from the record player making the song much more lively. More and more joined the song until the tavern turns into a party at a time like this.

Port De Gambino, Gaian Naval Command; 1700 hours Incident +5 hours-

A brightly lit corner office was very scarcely decorated the desk immaculate and clean of all paperwork except for one single sheet of paper. A black bar not much larger than a pencil box sat canted to one side of the desk a rising sheet of steam rising from it. A map of the Naval base on the straits was projected on the curtain of steam as sections of the map lit up as entrances were close off, confirmation times showing next to each in green or red depending on what level of readiness they were at.

Lt. Delacroix sat idly at his desk his head in his hands his cover sitting to one side of him as he ran his fingers through his short haircut thinking quietly to himself. he had order a complete securing of all entrances and exits of the base almost an hour ago but with the amount of personnel on such a base it had taken time to secure the merriad of secondary entrances even if it had only taken three or so minutes to raise the dual draw bridges entering and exiting the peninsula.

Delacroixs' thoughts were quickly interrupted by the mechanical buzz of his office phone,t he tone telling him that it was an intra base call. he picked up the phone and waited took a deep breath before responding, everything was going to hell in a hand basket and the formerly minor 'issue's of getting a major naval base online a half year set back had been nothing to this mornings riot. Having centered himself Delacroix answered with the dignity befitting an officer.

"This is Command, Lieutenant Delacroix speaking.."

On the other end of the phone he heard a very husky voice, one which had either just previously taken a strong shot of whiskey or just someone who had long since lost all the softness of his voice responded.

"Sir, all points are secure and measures Y & Z are in effect..."

Dealcroix nodded to himself in confirmation but soon realized with all his thinking he had not given a verbal command or response to the man.

"Very well, Put Garrison issue into effect and decentralize the armory."

"Sir! yes sir!" there was some shotting by the sergeant on the other end to nearby SP's the mans hand covering the handset. "Sir if I may ask about issue orders"

Delacroix turned to the window and stared out the window for a second, it was very important to be prepared to prevent an uprising, but also to defend the lives of his men.

"Grenades are to be 3 M250 baton rounds to a magazine and one M270 breaching round as the last round.. Id recommend irritant round in the breach..."

The sergeant responded sharply "as for bullets sir?"

"Guard issue, lead soft nosed or glaser only, we cannot afford an over penetration with the jackals watching, leave the chambers open on all rifles let them see the empty breaches. Issue M240 HEF to building Garrisons, and reinforce possible fall back points... we have Nuclear arms on this base sergeant we cannot afford to fall, for the sake of your country defend this base."

"The rules of engagement sir?"

Again Delacroix was not prepared to answer that question, he had to balance his mens life, the purity of arms and the lives of the civilians around them.

"Preserve life Sergeant.. but do not sacrifice your own, Delacroix out."

Delacroix hung up the phone and stood walking to the window it was perfectly sunny outside, barely a cloud int eh sky but Delacroix saw it there hiding in the towns around him. There was a storm coming its thunder and lightning just as dangerous if not as obvious as a real storm.

Gods be with the GNG...

GNV Aurora, 1750 hours Geo-Stationary Orbit (GSO), Barton-

"Captain on deck!"

a stout master sergeant barked a command and the CIC of the Gaian Navy Spacedy ship GNV Aurora a Heavy cruiser under joint command floated aimlessly in the constant free fall that is a planets orbit.

"at ease, Master sergeant sound general quarters..."

A short burst of the sound of bells echoed throughout the ship and power began to be diverted from lower level system to higher end at the call of battle stations. as the ship came to ready captain Haines took his place near the center of the CIC looking around the darkened room the hundreds of multi-purpose computer displays around him as he turned to the master sergeant at his right side.

"...gather the GNG joint command staff that happen to be on board in the conference room we have been order to support ground based operation in the potential of an uprising, and send staff to assist ASDF personnel in case we are in need to perform an emergency planet fall. I want any ship capable of carrying marines or weapon on board ready to go."

The master sergeant turned to a nearby consul Sergeant and passed on the message who in turn went to personally pass on the command or more accurately pass on the request for a briefing.

Eileen blinked and looked up at the armored soldier. With an incredibly hard to hear "...anoo~~~....," she glanced at his ident. "...private...?" it was a hazarded guess, and one spoken extremely softly. With an embarrassed blush covered by her long bangs as she lowered her head, she continued. "...ano...saluting in public is not a good idea..." She meekly gestured towards the Casino's stadium screen, where he and she were now being displayed talking.

"Oho what's this? It seems Deus Eileen Patterson is being reported to by a GNG soldier! What could this mean?!" The announcer always managed to make things sound a lot more exciting and dramatic than it was, but with the current situation, his normal exaggeration only seemed to fit the circumstances and interests of the public watching the Championship.

"...a-ano...i'lltalktoyouafterthematch...pleasestay" she said in a quiet rush of words, before dashing towards her competitor's chair.

Thrie had managed to stumble upon one of the more important bars in the area, as this was of course the tavern that Monolith had departed from. As the little impromptu celebration broke up as all good parties do into little groups, glances through the recent renovations and the muttered name Monolith became more prevalent. Thrie didn't even have to try. This wasn't really a secret...more sort of a tenative hope that the big guy would actually do some good. As if he had suddenly been elevated from the menial task of dock loader to the role of Champion of the People. There was however also a running bet to see if he'd ever stumble upon something GNG, or if he'd somehow end up in a place like communist Neopia, Gaia's old rival in the Gold War.

Mr. T.R.H.C.E.O. was not however able to find any information about an underground anti-GNG organization. It seemed likely that if one existed, the group would tell him about it, but there was a decided lack of information there much like there was a decided lack of air in space.

...and meanwhile, behind the office doors of one particular organization, a man known mostly as Leon watched the news with interest. "Hmph. I imagine the senators are squirming right now. Gives us more time to work."
