Apparantly this happens in the first episode of series 3... Poor screwdriver, you will be missed. By some people. It'll be strange if this information is wrong though, since I'm now expecting it to go...

i LOVE the sonic screwdriver!.....i like the brown pinstripe suit with the trench coat and converse. (even though america hasn't seen the new season) i wish he didn't change suits
