Shenzi's cheeks colored lightly at his words. She had been pretty before, and she knew it, but though she didn't have a mirror handy, she knew her face was covered in feathers, not to mention the ******** up beak that replaced her lip.
After a moment of indecision, though, she carefully stood up, accepting his hand with a slight wobble. She could stand still, already being used to the feet. They had gotten bigger, and the tail was longer. The wings were the problem though. Sparing an irate glance over her shoulder, she wrinkled her nose at them. "Goddamned chicken wings..." Shenzi mumbled under her breath.
Rolling her head on her neck to crack the strained muscles, she gave herself a small shake, the feathers ruffling up slightly. "I'm fine, but a hand'd be nice..." She said, eyeing her hands.

A hand he was more than willing to provide, something he was glad to still have to offer. That thought, with Shenzi's own dramatic change, sent a pang of fear through Gaius, though he kept it from showing in his face. How soon was he due? How many months had it been... after Halloween? How long before those hands were gone to hard, unmoveable lumps? He tried to push the gloomy thought aside, knowing he'd have plenty of nights in the coming weeks to dwell on that.
Taking one of her hands gently, he wrapped it around his elbow and patted the scaley skin, careful of the talons, and offered the blue-haired girl a reassuring smile.
"Chicken wings, huh...?" He let out a small chuckle, spreading his own miniscule wings behind himself as he did his best to support her back in the direction of the village. "I don't know... I think yours are too big to be normal... maybe for a super-sized combo? And I'll be the buffalo wings..."
He glanced around quickly to check where Vixen was. The dog had wandered off to investigate a hole once the excitement had died. A sharp whistle brought her running back, and she bounded ahead of the two.

Shenzi gave him a small smile, though it certainly looked odd with the half beak. "Ohjeez... Are you saying I'm fat?" She asked, giving him a pointed look and a light smile. The pain was rapidly receeding now, so she was starting to get some of the humor back. Though that would surely disappear once she saw a mirror. And that led to a more horrifying thought... Could she still sing?
When that thought hit her, she stopped dead, her eyes having a slightly fearful look to them, her tail switching around behind her, reflecting the sudden nervousness. "Gaius, do-do you think I can still sing?" She asked quietly, bringing her eyes up to meet his. If she couldn't sing, then yeah, she could still dance, but who would want to watch some gryphon chick with giant chicken wings dancing?

"No! No no!" Gaius shook his head empathically, tossing his mane back and forth. "Not fat at all! Never! I just mean you're bigger-er, your wings that is!" He rubbed his free hand over his face and grinned sheepishly, though it was with a friendly humor. He was glad to see the change hadn't robbed her of that spirit of hers.
Her sudden stop caused Gaius to halt as well, almost stumbling forward, and looked down at her with concern before she spoke. His face softened. "Of course you can... it's just a matter of getting used to the mouth. I'm sure you'll outshine any bird around here..." Oh lord, he hoped that assurance proved to be true. "You'll just have to work around the hissing."
Patting her hand again, he started off, the desire to get out of that jungle rising as he recalled the beast that may be watching them even then.

Shenzi nodded slowly before following after him again, keeping her hand on his arm, mindful of her nails so as not to scratch him. It definately wouldn't be good to scratch him, since she already knew the nails were quite sharp.
Picking up on his nervousness, she gave him a funny look, his want to get away causing her to look warily over her shoulder. But she decided against asking what's wrong... It was probably nothing. Maybe just him being jumpy from her changing or some s**t. She kept an eye on her feet, occasionally trying to move a muscle in her back, getting small twitches in the bulky things now coming from her shoulders.
"Gaius, you don't mind the change, do you?" She asked. She'd seen some really weird islanders... Like Joliette. It was kind of creepy hearing a woman's voice coming from a giant lizard, and then Chana, a talking beaver woman. Granted, it was happening to everyone on the island, but still.

It was Gaius' turn to stop suddenly, staring ahead. His mind raced. 'You don't mind the change, do you?' Why did she have to ask that question, of all of them? He'd told her she was still beautiful, if differently... but how much of that was the result of his father's teachings, the need to be courteous to women and the need to comfort Shenzi at any cost at this time. How much of it was actually sincerely his own feelings?
Taking a deep breath, he turned toward her, pinning on his best care-free smile over his anxiety. "Of... course not..." he lied, then sighed, dropping the facade.
"To be honest... it terrifies me. Not what you've changed into, but the fact that someday, I'll lose my face like everyone else has... I don't know when, but I will. And any change is sure to rattle anyone up," he added quickly, his expression apologetic. "There's some cliche my... someone I know always tells me... You're still you on the inside, no matter what. It's what I cling to."

Shenzi's ears actually drooped a little, before flicking back up. "I-I think it would terrrify anyone. To be human one day, then wake up and look in a mirrrorr and sssee ssomething elsse." She said, shaking her head. That wasn't quite the situation, but sometimes, maybe people thought it was a dream, to disappear when they woke up.
"Makess ssensse though." Shenzi said. Least he was honest about it. She couldn't fault him for that. Hopefully the change would be over and done with soon, though, so at least her face was covered, or the beak s**t was done or something.

Gaius shrugged slightly, feeling badly for the newly changed girl. After a moment, he reached over with his free hand and ruffled her hair in a playful gesture.
"Come on you, let's get you back to the village before I end up with my tongue tied in knots thanks to you and that sense of humor..."

Shenzi let a brief smile flash on her face, laughing softly under her breath as she lightly knocked him in the side with a balled up fist. "Big head." She said, but there was a note of affection in her voice. "If you don't cut it out, you'll get taken off the 'pretty people' list." She said with mock warning, before letting off another laugh, leaning slightly on his arm.
"Gaius... Thanks." Shenzi said softly, not looking up, just looking straight ahead as they started back towards the village, carefully putting her feet down so as not to lean too heavily on his arm...
