Ahoy, its Boog! Whats up boog, long time no see. I'll be enjoying your mecha tutorial.
Edit: Just finished the tutorial. Solid good advice for gundam style Mecha. I feel I should add that mecha, unlike humans, don't HAVE to adhere to a certain set of rules. They're machines after all. You have much more freedom to bend, create and just go nuts. You could opt not to have legs and to have tank treads instead. And theres the ever popular reverse leg style aka. ED-209 from robocop and several of the mechwarrior mechs.

For basic female mecha, make shoulders more narrow, but you can still have big shoulder pads/covers. Skinny waist, wide hips, bigger chest, long thin legs. You know, the things that make females female, but you have to do it creatively. Don't over do it or you'll end up with robot porn and nobody wants to see that. stare
