Setting Nikolai down, Jade shooed him towards the table where other small children were gathering to listen to the story. "Take a seat over there Nikolai, I'll be there in a minute. I need to check these out." She shifted the books she held, and started off towards the librarian's desk to get the books scanned.
For a minute, Nikolai looked like a deer in headlights when he was left standing there. He pouted, watching her walk away before shyly looking back at Guinevere. The child blushed again, and quickly made his way over to a seat away from the other children.

Guinevere waved as Jade left. She looked at all the other children gathering and noticed that she was probably the oldest one thetre, something that was always embarrassing for a child. She decided to stick to Nikolai, feeling better around someone who she knew, even if only just. He had moved and she went over, asking "Mind if I sit here?" since Kotatsu had instructed her to always ask before she sat in case the seat was taken or covered in an unpleasant and sticky substance, which would explain why it was vacated.

The little boy shook his head and scooted over. Even though he was still a bit red in the face from embaressment. He still didn't say a word, not one, however. A librarian came around to pass out some crackers and juice boxes to the little children seated at the plastic tables, and looked mighty surprised when she spotted the winged little ones at a table together. However, after a double-take, she gave them their snacks and went to sit to read to them all.

Guinevere looked at the surprise on the librarian's face and wondered briefly what might have caused it. SHe wasn't completely aware taht children with wings might be considered bizzarre, as her first guardians were an apparent murderess and Death, and her next guardian was so normal that she radiated an aura of normalcy about her that made anything in contact with her seem dull. But she was soon distracted by the story though, to her disappointment, it was one Kotatsu had read to her before. She looked at Nikolai, who had been silent all this while. It didn't seem like any stubborn silence, like the one Kotatsu had recieved upon meeting Guinevere. It seemed like an actually shy silence. This made Guinevere feel shyer, and she ended up blushing and being just as quiet as he was.

Nikolai glanced from the speaker to Guinevere only to flinch and look down at the crackers on the table. Starting to eat them, he hopd she wouldn't try to get him to talk as well.
The story ended, and the librarian looked up with a smile to the group. "So children, did you enjoy the story?" She asked pleasently to the cheers of the little ones- all except Nikolai of course.
Returning to the table where the children waited, Jade crouched beside her adopted son and gave him the peanut-butter sandwich she'd had in a ziplock bag. The food had been kept in her purse, and since he was eating his crackers, she thought he'd been hungry. "Did you enjoy the story?" She asked, without realizing the librarian asked the very same thing a moment ago. This time, however, Nikolai responded with a nod and gave his mother a smile.

Guinevere nodded as well. "It was nice." she said. At that moment though, she saw an orange haired woman walk into the library. "Oh!" she said and turned to Jade and Nikolai. "Would you like to come and meet Kotatsu?" she asked. "She's just come in." She waved at the guardian until the girl noticed her and started coming over. "She's a little boring." Guinevere said apologetically. She was sure Kotatsu wouldn't mind that she had talked to strangers, since Jade and Nikolai were very nice strangers, not at all the disrespectable sort.

"Oh, of course!" Jade stood up, looking to Nikolai who was eating happily, and his tiny wings quivering in contentment. Looking to the woman headed in their direction she smiled. "Good afternoon." She said politely. "You must be Guinevere's gaurdian, aren't you?"
Content with his peanut butter and jelly, Nikolai offered half to Guinevere with a smile. The strawberry jelly stuck to his cheeks, and stood out like a swore thumb. However, it didn't keep the little herald boy from looking absolutely adorable.

Kotatsu looked surprised to see Guinevere was with tohers and nodded. "I'm Kotatsu. It's nice to meet you, Miss..."
"Jade." said Guinevere. "And this is Nikolai." Guinevere smiled back at Nikolai and took the other half of the sandwich. "Thank you." she said cheerfully. "They've been keeping me company."
Kotatsu nodded. "Thank you." she said to Jade. "I hope she hasn't been bothering you." Inwardly, she sighed. She had told Guinevere not to talk to strangers. Sometimes she thought that if she told Guinevere she couldn't live without breathing, she'd have to say she could before the girl went blue trying to prove her wrong.

"Oh no, she's quite the little angel." Jade said as she looked to the pair. Reaching to brush Nikolai's hair from his forehead. "I've started seeing lots of Heralds lately. It makes me glad that Nikolai won't be all alone."
With how he was sitting with his back to Kotatsu, it was rather obvious that the child was not normal. But then again, white hair on a person that young wasn't normal either. He nodded happily, and dove in to his sandwich once more with large bites.

"Really? That's good." That's weird. thought Kotatsu. But then again, the little herald did seem to be more polite and amiable around people who weren't her. She looked at the child next to Guinevere and noticed he, too, was a Herald. "Yes, I was surprised at the number in this town." she said. "But I'm glad there are so many." She smiled.
Guinevere nibbled at her sandwich with small, polite bites, as Kotatsu had instructed. However, even Kotatsu's etiquette lessons couldn't stop her from getting jam on her face from the messy sandwich.

"Actually, I live in a little town a few miles away, but this library is nice to have so close." She chuckled, smiling at her boy. "Even if it is over an hour's drive."
The little herald was quickly finished with his sandwich, and looked up at Jade with large blue eyes. The woman was still getting used to the small child's cuteness in his new stage of life, and suppressed a sigh of contentment. Kneeling beside the boy, she sarted to clean off the mess from his face with a wet wipe from her purse.

((Eeep, sorry this took so long. X _ X Mind if I wrap it up?))
Kotatsu smiled warmly. "If you live close by, we live a few miles outside twon as well. I'm surse Guinevere would love you to visit whenever you were nearby. She looked at Guinevere inquisitively and Guinevere nodded. "Yes, that would be delightful!" she affirmed. "Thank you for keeping her company. I hope she wasn't too much trouble!" Guinevere stuck her tongue out sourly but got up to leave with Kotatsu. She curtsied. "Thank you so muchfor everything." she said. "I hope we'll meet again soon!" She then followed Kotatsu over to check out her books and leave.
