RP LOG: At the Labs with Myze and Ceri

Quote:
Raife wandered into the museum, looking around warily. Last time she''d come here, she''d been saddled with two baby.....things -well they certainly weren''t human- to add to her already growing menagerie. They seemed intelligent enough, well, as intelligent as babies could be anyway, and had settled into her life like a missing puzzle piece she hadn''t known was missing to begin with. It just felt right having Galen and Moros around. She figured it was time for them to see some of their own -she hoped there were some of their own...- and so she''d arranged a visit back to where she''d found them. Moros, unsteady on his feet and prone to asthma even at the slightest exertion, was tucked into a baby pack on her back, while Galen toddled steadily next to her. He seemed delighted in everything around him, ooing and ahhing and making appropriate happy noises at everything he saw that struck his fancy.

Ecavi walks slowly towards the museum, making sure the two tiny girls infront of her kept moving in the right direction- no one really wanted to get lost in Durem. Reaching the stairs proved a quicker process than getting up them- the night thule Myze, who often refused help from her new guardian and ignored the fact her wings often got in the way, and clambers up the stairs slowly. Ceri, attempting the same thing as Myze, made it part way up the stairs before turning and holding out her hand to Ecavi, "Hap!"

With a smile, Ecavi takes hold of the thule''s pale hand and helps her up the rest of the stairs and they waited for Myze. When she reached the top, Ecavi pulls the door open- pleased to find it was not locked. She''d promised the girls they''d do something together, and didn''t want to wait- so here they were. Hopefully they''d find someone here to play with.

Myze goes to the museum first, pleased to be somewhere airconditioned. Ceri follows closely, not stopping to examine anything she heads directly for some of the exhibits- pausing only when she heard the soft sounds of someone admiring something..

Raife waved as she saw the other guardian and the two come in. "Hey!" She smiled genially, at the same time reaching over and grabbing Galen''s hand to make sure he didn''t knock anything over. Sticky baby fingers had a habit of that. "Look, Galen! Playmates!"

Galen''s eyes brightened significantly. They were just. his. size. And certainly, nobody could be less fun than his brother who coughed on his toys and wheezed if he ran. He let out an excited yip! and started toward them, only to be held back gently by a hand on his shoulder. Raife''s hand. She didn''t know how the other little ones might react to her bundle of energy.

Ecavi starts when she comes in, closing the door gently behind her. Well, that was lucky- people were here. She smiles, and returns the wave, "Why, hello there!" She beams and looks down to her girls. Myze''s violet eyes narrow, watching Galen as he attempted to come over to them. She edges off to the wall, and sits down- unsure of these people.

Ceri pays no attention to Myze or Ecavi and starts off towards Galen, murmuring happily- more people like her and Myze! This was great, the bright eyed one looked like fun. She marches over and waves cheerfully to Galen, wondering why he had a hand on his shoulder.

Ecavi shakes her head at Myze and follows after Ceri to make sure she doesn''t start something, and says to Raife, "I wasn''t sure anyone would be here."

Raife smiled. "Me neither. But it''s nice to see that someone is. Hi, I''m Raife." She offered her hand out to shake, letting go of Galen''s shoulder. The little bullet charged up to Ceri with a happy, exuberant grin, and waved his whole arm as hard as he could at her, even though she was now only a few feet away.

Raife chuckled, and kept a stray eye on Galen. The smiling one seemed Galen-friendly, but she wasn''t sure about the darker one tucked behind.

Moros yawned and coughed and nestled into the babypack, enjoying the fact that he didn''t have to move, or walk.

Still smiling, Ecavi shakes Raife''s hand, "I''m Ecavi, it''s nice to meet you, Raife." She glances at Moros, then down to Galen and Ceri, "I''ve never seen these two before, what are their names?"

Ceri watches Galen''s arm move rapidly, her eyes widening- this one could move really fast. Mimicing what Raife had done, she reaches out and taps him on the shoulder, giggling. Myze, sitting by the wall, watches as Ceri and Galen interact with an expression of apathy. Her eyes wander to the thules apparent guardian, spotting Moros.

"Back atcha." She motioned with a sweep of her head at Galen. "That''s Galen." She pointed at her back. "And that''s Moros. He''s not well, and very asthmatic." Moros wheezed from behind her, as if to prove her point. He reached out with a green arm over Raife''s shoulder. It looked a little like a zombie movie impersonating a person.

Galen grinned charmingly, and grabbed her arm, whisking her off with an uncomprehendible series of babbles, pointing at objects all around the museum.

"I hope your little one doesn''t mind....Galen''s like this all the time."

Ecavi looks over Raife to Moros when she introduces him, frowning a bit, "That''s too bad." She looks over at Galen and Ceri again, beaming. Ceri gasped when Galen took her arm and starting pointing out objects in the museum- clearly interested in whatever he was pointing out. She joins in his babbling happily, and starts trying to point out this as well.

"I''m sure she doesn''t mind," Ecavi finally says, "Looks like they''ll get along fine." She pauses, watching the aduthule go and then laughs awkwardly, "Oh! I''m sorry! The one with Galen is Ceri, and the one by the wall is Myze- she doesn''t seem to like interacting with others that much." She pauses, glancing back at Myze- she wouldn''t attack either of these aduthule, would she?

"Well, if Len gets too close, I''ll order him off. He''ll listen if I use my angry voice. And Moros...wouldn''t walk that far." She eyed the two adu as they round around the museum, with Galen''s raucous pointing and gesturing leading the way. "I wonder if they understand each other. I certainly don''t understand a word he says when he''s babbling." She rolled her shoulders a bit.

"Moros, you''ve been up there all day. I''m going to sit you on the ground for a while." Raife reached around and tugged the babypack off. Moros''s only words of complaint were another hacking cough and a slight whine.

"She should be fine, if she''s not provoked," She looked from Myze and Raife as she set Moro''s down, "And I''m sure Ceri will let us know if Myze is upset.." She doesn''t explain on how, considering Raife had a pair of her own she''d know- and besides, most siblings could understand each other better than the others. She backs up a bit and leans against a wall, glancing between Myze and Ceri occasionally.

Ceri allows herself to be lead by Galen, not pausing to get a good look at anything he points to. This was just her pace- it made her wonder why everyone else was so slow, she wasn''t the only one who moved from one thing to the next like this! There were too many neat things to see.

Myze watches Moros, her expression unchanged, though she starts to wonder about his coughing..

"That''s good. Len knows, but he can be kind of a brat about telling me, when Moros isn''t feeling well. It''s all good though, because he''s never feeling well, so I don''t really need anyone to tell me."

Galen at the moment, was getting a little too hands on with some sort of...breakable looking thing. Raife turned her head, seemingly instinctively, and reprimanded him sharply. "GALEN!" That was all it took. The boy''s hand withdrew, and he looked over at Raife with a charming smile that seemed to say ''I wasn''t going to touch it, really.''

Moros continued coughing, oblivious to nearly everything around him, his head cupped in his hands miserably.

"In the only experience I''ve had with Myze being upset, Ceri just started crying," She laughs awkwardly, then jumps when Raife stops Galen from picking up something breakable. She certainly wasn''t watching Ceri well enough, and she''d had experience with the little man who worked here enough to know he wouldn''t like if something broke..

Ceri blinks, wondering why Galen stopped going for the thing and stands on her toes to try to get it for him instead, ignoring when the strange lady shouted out to them. Ecavi, now watching, groans, "Ceri! Don''t touch that!" She pushes herself forward and goes towards the aduthule- not certain Ceri would listen to her.

Myze looks from Moros to Galen and Ceri for a moment, then she turns her head away, no longer finding these strange people very interesting.

Raife looked over at Myze absently while Ecavi wandered over to the two. She seemed very solitary. Moros was solitary by necessity, but sometimes, she wondered if he wasn''t sick, if he wouldn''t still be the same way. He was quiet even when he was feeling his best. ...not that he was well behaved. Not at all.

Galen looked up at the lady and waved exuberantly at her, as he''d done with Ceri, beaming. Was she going to play too? He grabbed her arm and tried to tug her along as well. He was very strong for anything his size...but she was a full sized human after all, and he didn''t make any progress.

Ecavi laughs awkwardly as Galen tries to pull her along with him, "Wha-? Wait- no, Ceri- don''t touch that!" Ceri, who''d managed to tap at the artifact, withdrew her hand- it was too big for her to pull down anyway. Besides, Galen and her guardian were both fit distractions. She blinks and tilts her head at Galen, "Habuh?" She reaches out to pull at Ecavi as well, taking a hold of her pant leg. Myze looks back at Galen and Ceri, smiling very slightly at the sight of her guardian being pulled along by some aduthule and not doing anything about it.

Galen clucked his tongue and tried to pull harder, practically falling forward with the effort. Why wasn''t she moving? He looked over quizzically at Ceri, his chin set stubbornly, casting his gaze over to Ecavi. Didn''t she want to see the cool things? He burbled and babbled, digging his heels in and tugging like a force possessed, wrapping his tail around her leg too, and pulling as hard as he could.

"Alright, alright!" Ecavi gave in and stepped forward slowly, careful not to step on any little feet. Ceri murmurs happily and turns around, still holding onto her guardians pant leg so she can pull her along like Galen had taken her. Green eyes bright and wide, the day thule turns to look at Galen for him to lead the way, taking a couple small steps to try to keep Ecavi moving.

Galen continued his incomprehensible museum tour happily, babbling and pointing as if he knew all about everything in the museum. Raife chuckled and wandered over to them, keeping a stray eye on Moros. He wouldn''t go anywhere. And if he started..say, coughing up blood, it wasn''t as if there was anything she could do to prevent it from happening. She was starting to understand his coughs now, as if they were a separate language.

Ecavi glances back with a helpless smile to Raife when she joins the little tour, she turns her attention back to what Galen points out, "Yes, yes- very interesting." She murmured as he explained all the things to them, atleast trying to humor him, though she''d barely get through commenting when there was something else to look at. Ceri, though strangely quiet, just wanders along behind Galen, punctuating any pauses with babble of her own.

Myze watches as they go, and then looks over to Moros. Atleast he didn''t look as mean as Raul, she may as well go check it out. She lifts herself up and takes a couple slow steps towards him, pausing before continuing on. She comes to a stop a couple feet away from him, her expression changing very little despite her curiousity.

Breathing heavily, probably just from staying alive, Moros lifts a heavy head to look out at Myze from one un-hair covered eye. His expression was unchanging, neither friendly nor mean, just assessing her. His breath hitched and broke on another cough, and he flopped over onto his side, curling up with a quiet whine.

Galen stopped at a particular object, looking back as if to take stock of his tour and his new friends, then beamed and babbled endlessly, obviously trying to convey some point of total interest. Raife giggled helplessly, and scooped him up off the floor. "Oh, Galen, baby, that was a lovely tour."

Myze raises an eyebrow at the strange thule, he certainly didn''t look mean. She takes a hesitant step closer when Moros coughs and curls up on his side, something wasn''t right with him and it didn''t look like either of the people cared. She glances over at the small tour group before taking another step towards Moros and tapping him gently on the arm..

Ecavi smiles encouragingly at the thule, hoping she looked like she understood more than she did. She watches as Raife lifts up Galen and looks down to Ceri, who seemed perfectly content to continue leading her guardian around by the pant leg. She shakes her head, and looks back to Galen, "Yes, you''re a wonderful tour director, Galen."

Ceri, with part of Ecavi''s pants still over her shoulder, looks up at the others with a bright smile.

Raife looked over at Myze and Moros, curiously. She wasn''t worried overly much, Moros wasn''t the type to attack someone. That took energy. She turned to Ecavi and smiled. "It''s best that we stay over here for the moment. if Len sees someone with his brother, he''s likely to tackle them in some mixture of protecting his brother and wanting to meet a new friend. She tapped Galen''s nose. "He''s a good boy, if excitable. Shouldn''t let her stay over there too long though. He''s not generally contageous, but sometimes you never know. I haven''t had him around another ''thule not his brother yet."

Moros looked up at her, wobbling back up to sitting. He reached out with a sickly green arm, and tapped her shoulder in return before doubling back over with a hacking cough.

Ecavi glances over at Myze and Moros, nodding to Raife. It was kind of odd seeing Myze doing something social; of course, neither of them seemed to be too active in this meeting. She bends down and pulls Ceri away from her pants, lifting her up, "Galen doesn''t get sick?" She couldn''t imagine any aduthule twins not being together, and while Moros looked rather sickly, Galen was clearly very healthy. Ceri murmurs inaudibly when she is lifted up, not noticing Myze and Moros- she continues to look around the museum, eyeing some of the windows.

Myze jumps back when Moros begins to cough, convinced by then he was friendly and the worst he was likely to do was cough. She inches away slightly, sits down and watches Moros cough.

"No....Galen never gets sick. They sleep in the same bed...refuse to sleep otherwise...and he never even sneezes. Filled with energy too." She turned the boy upside down to dangle him, shaking giggles out of him, as he batted her in the face with his tail, struggling like a baited fish.

Moros finally managed to sit up, with one last cough, his fit having calmed back down to wheezing breathing. He raises a hand slightly in a wave, and looks over Myze. She looked dark like him, and wasn''t tackling him like his brother was prone to do. This seemed a good start.

Ecavi nods, "Well, that''s good!" She laughs, watching as Galen dangled upside down, shaking her head. Ceri''s attention is instantly pulled to the giggling, her eyes widening as she watches them- that looked like fun! He was laughing, atleast- and the girl didn''t seem to dislike it either. She glances up at Ecavi, and leans outward to get a better look at them and then try to fall upside down herself.

Myze looks over at Moros, and lifts a hand to return the greeting. This was nice, he didn''t seem to expect a lot from it, considering the coughing obviously interfered with any attempts to run around like Ceri and that other thule did.

Raife chuckled and grinned down at Ceri, offering a stray hand out to pick her up if she liked. She was good at dangling kids upside down, she was getting quite a bundle of them at her house. If she grabbed too many more, she could be her own basketball team.

Moros let out a soft whine. That grumbly pain in his stomach was starting again. Sometimes it was hard to tell if he was having a stomache ache or hungry. He patted his own stomach with a slight huff, looking minorly apologetic at Myze. It wasn''t his fault he was sick, but he wished he could be a little more personable.

Ceri blinks at Raife and reaches out to the hand, gripping it as best she could with her own hands. She giggles and continues trying to get herself upside down. Ecavi watches, shaking her head- Ceri wasn''t shy, that was for sure.

Myze watches Moros, tilting her head as he pats his stomach. Wondering to herself if his stomach hurt, and what that meant- it wouldn''t be fun coughing like that and then having something wrong with your stomach. She frowns slightly, feeling sorry for him- she could atleast try to be nice. In a gesture resembling something Ceri would do, she reaches over and gently pats him on the shoulder.

Raife swooped Ceri up in a whirl and had her upside down in one swift movement, grinning and swaying her lightly with her own thule with a grin at Ecavi. It was so much easier to entertain a happy child than...

She looked over to where Moros was with Myze. He looked in pain. With a slight furrow, she decided it was time to intervene. Bundling the kids up promptly into Ecavi''s arms -without even a warning to the other woman- she moved over to the two, and, inching around Myze -not wanting to breach her personal space, she scooped up the little boy in pain with a sigh and a smile for Myze. "Thanks. Not many people like to get close to him. That was sweet of you." Moros moaned slightly and burrowed into her arms.

Ceri cried out joyfully as she was twirled around, laughing while she had the chance to sway. Ecavi glances over towards Myze and Moros when she notices Raife''s expression, she takes both aduthule in her arms as best she can without dropping either of them on their sudden appearance. Ceri, disappointed, looks to where Raife goes- immediately distracted. Myze was close to someone else!

Myze watches, her frown fading when Raife comes over and picks up Moros. She watches the thule move from the floor to his guardian''s arms, nodding to Raife when she is spoken to.

Raife smiled sadly, making her way back over to the other woman. "Well, it''s probably best I go for now, it looks like he might be heading into one of his worse episodes." She offered her arms out to Galen, who launched himself from Ecavi''s arms to Raife''s, with a charming beaming smile, as if he''d calmly transferred. "I had a really nice time, and so did the boys, it seems. Usually nobody gets near Moros..he just looks so...potently contageous."

Ecavi nods, loosening her grip to help Galen switch arms, "I had a nice time too, it''s good seeing Myze do something social. Hopefully we''ll see you all again." Ceri blinks, catching on to what''s happening- she waves at Galen. Myze watches from her spot on the floor as the others prepare to leave.

Raife waves as she leaves, hoisting Moros back up into his babypack, and settling Galen in her arms so he doesn''t try to run back and make more friends. "Bye!"

Galen waves with both arms at Ceri and Ecavi and even at Myze, screeching happily, his wings smacking Raife and his brother in the face as they make their way out.

Ecavi waves to them, walking over to Myze and lifting her up, "Good bye." Myze lifts a hand and makes another vague gesture to the people, a farewell to Moros similar to her greeting. Ceri continues to wave, even after the others have left.

Bathtime had never been easy at Raife's house, and at the moment, neither of two of her youngest were making it any easier. With six pint sized charges running around her house, she really didn't have the time to deal with the naked yellow and red blur dashing around her living room at top speed.

Okay, so he was always naked. That didn't make it any better.

He was dripping suds, great billowing clouds of white soap, drooling off him in puffs as he hid behind furniture, giggling as Raife chased him in a gesture they both knew was futile.

"Galen, stop it!! I mean it!" The little demon babbled something back at her that sounded a lot like her same words fired back at her. She groaned.

That was the last time she let one of the older kids watch them. Putting on all the speed she could manage, she lunged for him, only to find a faceful of carpet as her reward. She scowled up at the fitful giggling of her charge as he floated two inches above her head, wings batting rapidly just to keep him afloat.

"Not funny, mister." Galen obviously didn't agree.

Grabbing him by an ankle, she scooped up the wiggling little creature and carried him back to the bath, shutting the door behind her. She didn't have to look to know that Moros was already there, curled up in the corner of the warm bath, coughing and hacking and pointedly not playing with the bubbles. Definitely sulking. Raife put on a smile, and lowered Galen into the tub. Despite his earlier escape, he loved the bath, and dived right into the bubbles, splashing and making a nuisance of himself. Raife chuckled as Moros winced, trying to hide from the splashes of water, even though he was already wet.

It was a job getting the two of them scrubbed down, but with a little bit of effort and a lot of soap, they were clean, and Raife was wrapping them up tightly in towels before they knew it. She especially made sure to blowdry Moros's long hair, as he tended to get sick if it was left wet for even an hour.

They were already bickering in babble when she laid them down for bed. It was a good sign. It meant that Moros was over his sulking earlier and feeling well enough to fight. Laughing a bit, she let them argue on into the dark.

Mini-plot, Part One - Exploring Mortality

It was late in the evening on a crisp fall day when Moros slipped into his first coma. Raife would have taken it for a long, deep nap -which Moros was prone to taking- if it wasn't for the keening wail that Galen was giving off as he clung to her leg.

Something was definitely wrong. He was shaking at her pants, tugging and grabbing and pulling her over to Moros. He was saying "Mama" over and over again, a clear word out of his usually incomprehensible bubbly babbling. Raife was getting more worried by the moment as Galen's careening sobs did nothing to wake Moros up or even flinch in his sleep. Reaching over Galen's clawing fingers, she nudged gently at Moros. No response. A cold chill running down her spine, she reached over and pressed her fingers to his throat, looking for a pulse.

It was weak. Feeble and unsteady, but that was normal for the thule. Raife breathed a sigh of relief. He was still alive. But then, what was wrong? Why wasn't he waking up?

Time to call the family doctor.

Calls to Alexi were expensive, but worth every penny. Besides. Raife wasn't exactly scrounging for money. When she went to the normal hospital she got blank stares or calls to the government. Between the two of them, Alexi managed to make a tenative diagnosis of a coma, but he said he'd have to come out to check closer. That'd take some time, so all Raife and Galen could do was wait.

Sighing, Raife scooped the wailing Galen up into her arms, and tucked a sheet over Moros. She'd get him fed, and then they'd both go to watch over his brother. Galen wasn't interested in eating but she made him, and over a bowl of sugared cereal, he opened up a bit.

"Wassit..." He was having trouble expressing what he wanted to say. He wasn't good with words. He never bothered to pay attention when Raife tried to teach him, more interested in playing around. "Wassit...Moros...wassit?"

Raife got the jist and sighed. "I don't know what's wrong with your brother, sweetie. He's not doing well. The doctor'll be here in a couple days, and all we can do for now is keep a close eye on him. Can you help me with that? And you have to eat and stay healthy too so we can take care of him, okay?

Galen paused for a moment then nodded, without smiling. He could do that. He would do that, for his brother.

Mini-plot, Part Two - Alexi's Arrival

It was rare for Alexi to actually fly over instead of garnering a visit to his office from Raife. It was a long flight from Russia and time Alexi couldn't really spare to take off, especially with the winter flu season coming. But Raife hadn't wanted to move Moros, and Alexi had agreed.

"We don't know what's wrong with him." Had come the staticy mellow voice of the doctor over the telephone. "It could be something serious. I would advise not moving him at all until I come. He could have spinal damage or neck damage or...any number of things could be the reason he's passed out. We don't want to make it worse." Raife had wholeheartedly agreed, and this was a chance to have Alexi and his partner Yousei at her house, feed them, shelter them from the burgeoning Russian winter. They wouldn't stay long though, of course. Alexi was needed where he was, and Yousei went whereever the doctor did.

Raife met the two of them at the airport with Mikhael in tow. There was no way Raife was going anywhere with Alexi involved without Mik, so she'd reluctantly agreed to let him come along. It'd be easier, instead of fighting with him for half an hour before they left. They really didn't have the time.

Watching the luggage go around the rubber belt, Raife leant against a pole, rubbing the bridge of her nose with two fingers. It was always something, wasn't it? She wished she could just have Alexi around all the time instead of going through this constant back-and-forth tag game when one of her boys got ill. She thanked the powers that be for Declan's good health, and Cole's spry athleticism. She hadn't had any problems with the two of them yet. But Moros...and THIS one...she looked over at Mikhael and sighed, ruffling the boy's hair. Before Mikhael could even look up at her, Alexi came down the elevator and the boy was off like a shot, wrapping himself around Alexi and clinging like a burr. The man was one of his favorite people by far.

Raife just smiled. It was a treat to see her boy beaming. The smile couldn't penetrate through the fog of worry for long though, and she strode quickly over to Alexi and wrapped him in a tight hug. "I'm glad you're here. Did you bring any luggage? Where's Yousei?" Alexi just squeezed her shoulder lightly.

"He's watching over a boy staying at the hospital. No, no luggage, ptichka. It's all here." He patted a backpack on his back. Mikhael reached up and snatched it for him, struggling with it a bit before scampering around him, helpfully, always willing to do something for Lexi.

"Well, that makes it easy. I've got Trance watching the boys at home. He'll be happy to see you too." Alexi's cheeks pinkened slightly at the mention of an old crush, but he just smiled.

"I miss him too."
