My first day of work was better than most i'd had before. I met someone named Kyocho, and we had a lot of fun... or atleast as much fun as one can have scrubbin floors and attempting to maneuver around this laboratory. The place was a MESS! I'm glad they decided to hire a few helping hands. The best part was, i got promoted at the end of the day! I'll be working in the greenhouse next. I can't wait, i used to love playing in the dirt at Aunties house. Even if i WAS her little greenhouse slave. To prepare myself though, i started going through a bunch of my old books and things i have on gardening. As i was, i found some of the pressed flowers i had, including my favourite, lily of the valley.

It was pressed and between plastic in the shape of a bookmark. I dont' recall making it, but i must have. I think perhaps i'm going to start my own little home garden here. Kitkat is being really good about not eating the few herbs i have growing in the kitchen window, so i think i'll try another plant or two. I just hope she doesn't attack them! She's mostly been lazy though. I think i need to get her an electronic toy to play with for when i'm not here.

Well, that's all for now! I can't wait to write more later. For now though, here are some facts about Lily of the Valley to refresh my memory.

Synonyms---May Lily. Convallaria. Our Lady's Tears. Convall-lily. Lily Constancy. Ladder-to-Heaven. Jacob's Ladder. Male Lily

A slow but aggressive spreader, Lily of the Valley will tolerate dry conditions after blooming but the foliage will die back. Constant moisture will keep the plants green throughout the growing season. They prefer shade and will grow in most soil types. Fragrant bell shaped flowers are followed by glossy red berries.

It's best to plant them in September i've read, and to plant them where spreading is favourable. After planted (which should be done at pot level) keep them watered until they've taken to the area.

( journal entry for explained absense )
Ali stumbled to the front where the cab was waiting for her. Whatever this virus was, it had worked on her quickly, and she could barely walk straight as she concentrated on not tripping on the stepping stones. Hard to believe she had skipped down these earlier in the morning. Hopefully some warm tea and sleep would get rid of whatever it was that she had.

Hopping in the cab, the driver took off a little too fast, and Ali could feel the migrane starting from the base of her head. Ever jerk of the cab made it pound painfully, sending ringing to her ears.

Getting home, she threw the cabbie some cash and climbed the flights of stairs to her apartement. Throwing her keys down, feeding the cat, and throwing the kettle on, she barely noticed how the rest of the evening went. She knows she drank tea at one point, but the next thing she knew she was in bed with the covers up to her nose, collapsed. Setting the alarm, Ali rolled over and waited for the morning. Hopefully she would feel better than she felt at current.

Alinedra hesitantly approached the professor. Having been called up after class, she wasn't sure if she was going to like the news that she was about to get. They had only handed in their papers yesterday, and she hadn't expected the rebutle quite so soon.

" Alinedra is it? " The short balding man at the desk asked. The class had been going on for quite a few weeks now, but he wasn't the type to learn names. " I wanted to talk to you about that paper of yours. "

Taking a deep breath, Ali exhaled her explenation. "Look, i can explane. I know its a litte odd, and not really what you asked for, but it's exactly within the peramiters of the assignment. If you feel it's not i understand the low grade, but..." Suddenly though, the man raised his hand and waved off her exasperated explenation.

" I'm not really conscerned about it fitting in the peramiters i set. I'm more wanting to discuss with you how you came to your conclusions. Your theories on Thigmonastic response are very intruiging. While i don't agree with them, they were nearly convincing. "

Ali breathed her sigh of relief. She wasn't going to fail her paper! It being 50% of the grade for the class, she'd worried that she would. She scarce heard what the rest of the professor said until she heard "Vale".

" Huh? I'm sorry, what did you say? " Ali responded, looking up startled from her daydreaming.

" I said, i hear you're interning at that place outside of town that calls themselves "Vale" something or other. Is that correct?" He looked at her with an unreadable expression.

Shrugging, Ali replied" Yes, i've worked there for a year now. It's been interesting work, even when i was a Janitor". The man leaned back in his chair at this, and seemed to be lost in contemplation. He sat like this for what felt like forever, leaving the silence lingering in the air untouched.

" I don't want you to write papers like this for the University again. " He said, when he finally broke the silence. Ali nearly choked.
" I'm sorry, what do you mean? What's wrong with it?" Tears were starting to form, even though she knew they weren't supposed to be there. She had done a good job on her paper, why would she be punished like this?

" I have a feeling your work there has effected this thesis, and since they are an extremely confidential company, and we tend to publish good work like this, i think it wise that you stick with more mediocre topics from now on. I dont' want a lawsuite over something that can be avoided. It was a good paper, but i think that, for the time being, it should stay in the company, regardless of whether they're your ideas or not." And motioning for Alinedra to leave, he returned to his work.

Stunned, She could do nothing but sit there for a moment, soaking in what had just happened. Then she realized exactly what he meant. She had broken confidentiality unintentionally. She'd have to report it at once. Ali heaved a sigh and began to walk out of the classroom. She wondered what good the knowledge was for if she couldn't apply it anywhere. She hoped she'd get picked up as an apprentice soon, because it was getting near impossible to work there without helping. She'd projected it into her school work without even knowing! What a fool she'd been.

She'd have to be more careful next time.

Eden looked around at the wonderful mess he had made. Giggling with delight, he ran around the room on the little train track path that he'd built himself through an imaginary toy city. The little battery operated train chugged along behind him, winding through building blocks and under books propped up as little bridges.

" Chooo! CHOO!!!!" He screamed, startling Kitkat under a chair as he ran by. She glared out from the darkness with yellow feline eyes, but soon began to resume her bathing after she saw she was being left alone. While she liked the little man thing, there were times that she'd rather not be bothered.

Finally however, the train began to chug slower and slower. He'd been playing for a few hours non stop with it on. When it screached to a halt finally, Eden stared at it for a moment. Nudging it with his toe made it move perhaps another foot along the track, but it soon sputtered and died again. Tears began to line his eyes and Ali heard the cry from the next room over.

Stepping through the door and leaning against the door fram, glasses holding back her hair, Ali smiled. "What is it dear?" She asked the little boy, knowing full well what it was but wanting to get a response from the boy.

" Train died! No more choo choo..." He whimpered, wiping the tears out of his obviously tired eyes. Grabbing up the train, he waddled it over to her and offered it as if Ali had the magical answer to all things.

" I'm sorry hun, but i can't fix it this time. The last battery that we had was put into that, and you played it up already!" Leaning down she tussled his hair around a bit and took the train. " But.... but.... train just need batree," he stuttered to her, " We go get batree?"

He had such a hopeful look in her eyes, she couldn't possibly tell him no. She wanted to, having listedn to his screaching all day, keeping her from concentrating fully on her paperwork, but the child tended to get his way on things ilke this. Ali had a soft spot for the little guy that she wished wasn't so soft. Scooping him up and standing back up straigh, she grinned at him and wiped away some of his little tears.

" How about we go get some tomorrow. We'll make an adventure of it. For now though, i think it's time for bed," Poking his sides a bit to make him laugh, "You need to refill your batter too i think." What followed was the normal routine of him moaning about how he wasn't tired, but she knew otherwise.

Putting him down in his bed after maneuvering around the room, she tucked him in and went through the normal routine of picking up the random toys that were on the floor and dumping them in the large toy chest. As she got to the door, he called out to her. Turning around, she saw picturesque green eyes staring at her.

" I'm glad i chose you." Was all he said, but it was enough to soften her up a bit more. " I'm glad as well Eden, now get some sleep." And with that, the lights went out and all that could be seen was the little apple night light in the corner.

Eden snuggled under the covers and was soon asleep, already forgetting about the trauma of his little train stopping its trek. Ali shook her head and marveled at the little boys ability to cope. She hoped it would always be like that, thinking of some of the other Vales that had passed from owner to owner. She also wondered what other problems would be surfacing in the future, because no child goes unscarred after abandonment. Sighing, she returned to her paperwork, hoping the day wouldn't come soon that she'd find out.
