He lay down on his bed, eyes closed, listening to his music. The classical piano melody was echoing in his mind. He shivered. This was his first day off after a working nine shifts in eight days at a department store where people left huge messes at the end of the day. Relaxing like this was how he wanted to spend all his days. Cooped up in his room, without a care in the world...
His stomach growled and he finally opened his eyes. The clock read 2:47 PM and he remembered he hadn't eaten a thing since last night. He stood up and hurried into the kitchen.
Gently spirits-who'd been alerted it was time to unite this man and the spirit of the reborn god he'd be caring for-tugged on his reality, causing something to happen which would make him die. They held no malice against him. It was just how it had to be done. He'd never feel it and he'd be fine in a while.
He wolfed down the only piece of bread he found and washed it down with some orange juice. He was still hungry. Grumbling, he grabbed his coat and wallet and made his way out of his apartment. He absolutely hated shopping. Paying no attention whatsoever, he turned up his music to block any sounds from the outside world and made his way across the street. He never even had the time to regret doing so.
He was run over.
The spirits did their job now. Repairing the body, sending it to the Samadueanna with the magic relic around his neck. General routine for them now when a guardian was ready. The soul meanwhile was taken to a special place to bond with the spirit of the god designated to be cared for by this person. When the souls bonded the spirit of the man was sent back to his body, taking the soul of the god along with him. The soul of the reborn god went into the relic till it regained it's body. Which would happen later. Meanwhile he was allowed to wake up in a bed on the ship as if nothing had happened. A woman with short blonde hair and a similar relic around her neck stood at the end of the bed smiling at him. "welcome to the samadueanna. I'm rouge remika, the captain. We'll be arriving at the store you meant to go to shortly."
"What do you mean by that?" he asked, sitting up slowly, warily, eyeing the woman. He didn't know what she wanted with him, nor did he know how he ended up here. He wanted some answers. Fast.
Rouge, getting good at summarizing things and dismissing questions, answered him. "You got killed. Your body ended up on this ship with a magic relic. Your soul bonded with a dead god from another universe. Your soul went back to your body here and the dead god's soul went into the relic. You've been chosen by some higher power to raise a reborn god on gaia that will one day save another universe." she said quickly. Whatever questions he had now she was prepared for.
He could barely remember what happened. All he knew was that he was going to the supermarket to buy food and then everything that happened after that was a blur. No pain. He felt like he had no choice but to believe her. "So, am I really dead?" he asked when he finally calmed down. "And why me? Why was I chosen?"
"No you're not dead. Soon as your soul went back to your body you were alive again. I don't know why you. I'm not the higher power that chose you. All I know is you'll be caring for a reborn god kid that has to be protected and treated well."
He nodded submissively, sliding off the bed and running a hand through his hair. "Who is this, 'higher power'? I don't suppose you could tell me more about him or her. And, when do I meet the kid?"
"Well there's some sort of driving force/source of magic in Tison. No clue who or what it is though. That's the higher power. As for when you get the kid we don't know yet. No one's gotten one. " Rouge said calmly. "Now if you'll follow me I'll take you to the transporter room and you'll be at the store." And with that another guardian had received their charge.

Dear diary,
A few days ago, I had the weirdest dream. To summarize it really quickly, I went out to buy food. I died. I was revived. And a woman named Rouge Remika told me that I was 'chosen' to raise some god kid to help save the world and when I woke up, I was standing back in front of my apartment building, wearing a necklace I've never seen before. Maybe someday, somehow, this thing will transform into a god.
I wonder if mom would believe me. She's on the other side of the world right now, I guess that's a good thing... just in case all this nonsense is actually reality.
I still haven't gone grocery shopping. I should go right now. My shelves are bare. There aren't even any more cookies.
What do god's eat?
Rien.

Rien tossed a 'How to care for babies' book on his bedside table and flopped down on his bed right after he came back from the grocery. He had bought food, that book and a bunch of... baby things.
He held a cup full of bright-colored sherbet with his right hand and a spoon on the other. He had a sweet tooth. He sat up and started to eat the sherbet which was too sweet, I might add, instead of organizing the things he bought. And he got tired of staring at the really bright shades of pink, green and yellow in his cup so he mushed it all up together and now it's a disgusting orange-brown color. Now, he's stuck with half-melted, disgusting-looking, and still very sweet sherbet. Ahh, life.
Putting the cup aside, he brought the necklace he kept hidden under his shirt out and fingered the tip of the sword shaped gem. He was starting to feel attached to it. Jewelry wasn't his kind of thing and he didn't know why, but somehow, the necklace attracted him.

Rien took the cup full of melted ice cream and threw into the garbage. He quickly took a shower, brushed his teeth and simply put, got ready for bed. He was exhausted.
A little while after, he reentered his room and slipped under the covers after setting his alarm clock at 7AM. He felt the necklace against his chest. Somehow, he felt safer and less lonely. It was like a blessing. He lay down there for a bit, his eyes half-open, awaiting a dreamless sleep.
The dreamless sleep didn't come. When Rien drifted off his soul slipped from his body. But this time it was in a dream form, floating above him as he slept, a ghostly form of the necklace glowing warmling around his neck.
Across the room was a door. This door glowed as well, beckoning him to go through it.
He wasn't expecting something like this would happen again. He stared down at himself... well, his body. His gaze went from there to the door. Half of him hoped it was just a dream. In dreams, you could never feel pain, right?
He floated to the door with difficulty. It isn't every day your soul gets separated from your body. He had no idea how to control his movements. After what seemed like an eternity to him, he made it and passed through the door.
On the other side of the door was a room. When he passed through the door the door vanished but he felt more physical here. Before him was a body, seemingly of a young woman with strangely styled purple hair. She seemed slight, but wore armor and carried a sword. Strangely the relic's glow beckoned him to lay a hand on the body of the seemingly lifeless woman.
He looked around, studying the area before he noticed the woman a few feet away from him. He felt like the relic was pulling him closer and closer to that woman. His heartbeat quickened, he was nervous; afraid. The woman, was she dead? He walked to her and lay a hand on her shoulder, hoping she wasn't and would wake up.
When he touched her shoulder both the body and the relic erupted with light, making it near impossible to see. The weight of the relic lifted from his neck as it shot into the lifeless body and the glowing form shrunk. When the light did clear a small chubby baby with purple hair was blinking up at him.
Rien stared at the little one for a moment. And she stared back at him. It felt unreal. Was she the woman who was lying there mere moments ago? He picked her up carefully when she looked like she was about to cry and gently rubbed her back, hoping she would find some comfort in his arms. When he picked her up the door reappeared-open so he could return to his body, taking the child to her new one. And with that Edel had arrived into the world.

Rien found himself back into his bed the next morning, with his arms wrapping securely around a small child. Her name was Edel.
He gazed at the infant for a short while. Her eyes, hidden behind her messy purple hair, were shut tight; her hands gripping the collar of Rien's pajama top tight. She was still asleep. Rien carefully pried her hands away from his shirt and put a small pillow in her arms when she started to whine from lack of warmth.
He walked quietly out of the room, unpacking and arranging the things he had bought the day before. He stuffed the diapers in a box in his closet and warmed a cup of milk for Edel for when she awakens. He barely even finished changing when he heard her wail.
He ran the his bedroom, a sock in hand, wondering what to do. He was inexperienced when it came to ... babysitting. He picked her up and she just stared at him, starting to yell, kick, bite and scream. Rien rubbed her back to soothe and calm her and walked briskly to the kitchen. He cradled Edel and gave her the bottle of warm milk to drink. She drank and calmed down. Rien sighed in relief.
A few seconds later, however, Edel started to cry again. It was going to be a long day.

Dear Diary,
I haven't written to you in a while. I've been really busy; juggling school, work and taking care of Edel.
I really like her. She's really cute and it's less lonely with her around. It's nice. She yells a lot though and it's difficult to take care of her. Once , she somehow managed to rip my school bag in half and tear some really important papers inside.
I think I might tell Falesse about her. It would make everything easier on me. Should I? Falesse is my older sister.
I think I'll go take a walk with Edel for a bit. She's been inside all day.
Rien.
