Demare thought for a long moment, his wings drooping down slightly. This could take quite some time...
"Well... would you like to go to my house?" he suggested, looking down to her. "No wait... and it'll probably be much quieter. Most everyone will either be out doing things or outside playing in the snow."

"Is it closeby?" Mayu asked, as the line moved forward once again. "If it's far away, then maybe staying here would be better."
A package of paper cups flew over the counter, landing on some unfortunate Gaian's head as the people in the kitchen scrambled to get more cups to replace the ones that they had just thrown out. A red-vested employee pushed his way through the angry and grabbing hands of the people in line to step out of the cafe, looking about nervously as he kept his distance from the line.
"There... seems to be a cocoa shortage in the kitchen,"--- he cringed as he said those words ---"it might be some time before you reach the head of the line."
Before giving the people any time to react, the flustered man dashed back into the safety of the cafe, running behind the counter to avoid the angered people in the line which two other employees were attempting to calm.
Mayu scratched her head again, looking back up to Demare with a slight frown. "Maybe it would be best to go to your house..." she muttered, smiling sheepishly as the yelling voices grew louder and louder behind the closed glass doors of the building.

"It's not that far away," he replied as he watching the happenings going on in the line and inside the cafe. Sometimes, these places were so strange. "It's about a 10... 15 minute walk if we take shortcuts."
His eyes searched the ground for a moment, wondering if it would work. It WAS bright enough, but there wasn't any actual light coming from the sky... His left foot sunk into the ground a little bit as he placed pressure on it, indicating that it was indeed touching concrete. Damn... That would have made the trip much shorter.
"Let's go," the halfling shrugged, starting to walk again, lagging a bit for Mayu's sake. "I can guarentee a warm house, at the very least... I'm sure Manny would love to see you, too. Not that... you remember him, but unlike the others, he's worth meeting again."

"Sounds nice," Mayu smiled, shivering as a breeze began to pick up. She looked back into the cafe for a moment, brows raising as a half-drunken cup of lukewarm cappuccino flew into the glass doors, thrown by an onlooker sitting at a table to further fuel the rising tempers of the people.
"You know, why is it that whenever we go to a cafe, all of the crazy people show up?" she voiced curiously, eyes lingering on the building for a little while longer before realizing that Demare had started on without her. Twisting around, the Legend ran after him, boots clomping through the cleared sidewalk to catch up.
Falling into pace with the teen's steps, Mayu nonchalantly slipped one of her hands into Demare's.
"A warm house sounds good," the child smiled, "especially knowing how cold it is outside."

"They all must have ESP and know when we're going to show up," he replied sarcastically, paying no mind to the cafe as they were on their way.
Demare felt his cheeks blush for a moment as Mayu took his hand into hers, glancing down a little bit before looking forward again. He curled his fingers around her hand to hold onto it, realizing just how much bigger his was compared to hers. He almost felt like a giant, and idly wondered if Manior thought the same thing of him when they were together.
"I'm... sorry I didn't come see you sooner, Mayu," the halfling couldn't help but appologize, also realizing just how much he'd missed her.

"Really?"
Mayu looked up, intrigued. It took her a moment to recognize the sarcasm in his voice, finally returning his joke with a loud laugh. She glanced down, keeping her eyes on her feet as she attempted to conceal the blush on her face.
She was taken by surprise at Demare's apology, reaching up to scratch at her cheek idly with her free hand as she searched for a proper response.
"It's... okay," she finally said, smiling. "At least we're getting to see each other now, right?"

He couldn't help but smile a little bit. She was right... While he hadn't seen her earlier, all that mattered was that they were together today. Hopefully, he'd be able to see her more often.
"So... um..." Demare searched for something they could talk about. What would be generic enough so that he'd be able to answer, too? "How was... Christmas?"
Wait... CRAP. He couldn't answer that one if she returned the question! Ah, hell... It was too late to go back now, and it would be a good time to explain the situation, anyway.

"Christmas? It was nothing special, really. We built snowmen and went caroling, but that's pretty much all that was exciting..." She gave a small smile and a shrug. The tree had looked pretty nice, though.
"How about yours?" Mayu asked, in curiosity. Certainly he must have had a more exciting holiday than hers. And if not, then they could laugh about it!

He was quiet for a moment, chewing on his bottom lip softly. Finally he sighed, stopping where he was and kneeling down onto the snowy sidewalk so that he could see her better.
"I... don't know," Demare said flat out, releasing Mayu's hand as he shrugged. "Demian had Christmas... I can tell you that my Thanksgiving sucked, and... New Years was boring... But once again, just like every year, I missed out on Christmas."
Idly, he lifted his right hand to glance at the charms hanging off the bracelet that dressed his wrist.
"When I grew, something happened to me... Well, Demian and me. The body allows for only one soul to be in the body at a time, completely rejecting the other when inhabited. Ever since then... we can't talk to each other unless we're near the enterance to each others 'realms'. I live my own life during the weeks I'm in the body, and he lives his own while he's in it. We take turns, and switch off every week... as close to Sunday as possible."

Mayu nodded as she took in this new information, quite unsure of what to say in return.
"No Christmas... at all?" she finally asked, trying to accept this concept with moderate difficulty. How horrible that would be, not getting to experience the cheer and joy that was the holiday!
She paused for a moment as she thought, tugging at a strand of her hair as her mind began to formulate a plan.
"Then we'll just have to have our own Christmas celebration!" she cried, grabbing his hands as she spoke. "It's a little late, but who cares? You still have your tree, don't you?"

The halfling was almost dumbfounded as he stared at her, his bi-colored eyes blank as ever. Had she really even heard a word that he'd just said? Or did she just not care?
"Tree...?" he questioned at first, trying to take in what she was saying. "Uh... no, Domonic's very a**l about taking down decorations the day after holidays."
Demare looked her over for a moment, smirking a little bit. "Though, I don't see why we'd need that one... I have my very own right here."

Mayu looked over her shoulder, her gaze to be met by an array of branches.
"...Right. Problem solved!"
She thought for another moment, counting off the other things she would need to properly emulate the Christmas feeling. They had a makeshift tree, but what else...?
"Well, do you have any ornaments? And what about gift bags?"
Of course, she would have to find something to put in those gift bags, but this was a work in progress. She would come up with solutions for that later.

"I'm sure I could dig out some of the stuff... beads, garland, ornaments... lights if you want them," he assured her, taking a moment to stand himself up. "There should be bags, too."

"Perfect! Let's go!" Mayu threw her arms up joyously before putting her hand into his again. This was going to be fun, she had never gotten to be a Christmas tree before! This would be a story to tell when she got home.

Demare began to walk again as they were talking, curious as to what Mayu intended on doing once they got to the house. (And probably after they had some hot cocoa.) Idly, he hoped the others would still be out doing their own things, and that the house wouldn't still be trashed.
It didn't take much longer for the two Legends to arrive at the house, things seeming fairly calm from the outside. In the front of the house, most of the snow was still intact, save for some foot prints and a small snowman made on the left side of the walkway to the door. On the right, however, there were large dips and clumps all over the place, as if fresh snow had covered whatever disturbances had been there. If one actually looked, there was a window on the second story that was boarded up from the inside, revealing a broken window on the outside. Toward the back, one could hear laughter and giggles, probably coming from the children playing in the snow.
On the door was a piece of paper that read "Happy New Year. Go away." in large, thick black letters, probably to ward off anyone from bothering those that had hangovers. Demare had a feeling that it might have been Nojiko who put it up, so he yanked it down and cumpled it up to annoy her.
"Well, here's to hoping it's quiet..." he muttered as he turned the doorknob and pushed open the door, his monochrome eyes peering inside the house warily. Thankfully, it was clean. "Ladies first."
