"Thank you." Ice said, taking some of his money and handing the wallet back. She wasn't too proud to turn down a free meal! She headed for the line.
"Annie... you're getting teeth in..." Walter said, trying not to make a face as she chewed on him. "C'mon, wouldn't you rather chew on this cookie?" He asked, pulling out his last one merely for survival.
Kitsu looked up, eyeing them for a moment before she went back to drawing. Walter didn't seem too bothered by the chewing, after all.

"Meme, stop." A high, childish boy-voice carried right through the restaurant, pitched exactly for his sister's ears. "It's not nice to bite."
Then, in a sudden swoop, Cressida was there - dropping a small avalanche of bags, setting Quixana beside the other children, shooing Courage to stand near Oblivion, and delivering a tender kiss to Leon's cheek. "He's right, little Naiad," the offender's mother said mildly. "Don't take advantage of Walter like that." She paused then and widened her eyes. "-Walter-," she laughed. "You've grown up so much. Are you a man yet?"
Quixana rolled his eyes but his smile never left, clearly no matter what inane thing his mother said meant nothing compared to his love for her. "Hey, Walter. Missed you."

"Keeee!" Anemone had grubbily taken the cookie, but still persisted in wrapping herself around Walter like a limpet: "Wawa," she told both her mother and Quixana, deeply proud of herself at saying the word. "Waaawa."
"Still don't know what 'Wawa' means," Leon said. "Oh, that's Kitsumai, by the way; Ice's newest. She's getting you a coffee. - Did you look after your mother, son?" (This was addressed to Xana.)

"It's okay, it's not bleeding... much." Walter said, rubbing his neck with a sheepish grin. "Hey, Xana, I got bigger." He said, grinning. "You did too, huh?"
Kitsumai went shy again, smiling and waving at the newcomers, her notebook hugged to her chest.
"Okay, four kids meals, two with the boy's prizes, two with the girl's, one chicken salad, four sprites, a coffee for Cressida, and two dollars in change for Oblivion." Ice said as she doled them out with expertise. "Quixana! You look so grown up!" She said as she handed him his kids meal. "Very handsome." She added.

"Thank you, Miss Ice." Quixana grinned even bigger and made a low, polite bow. "You look pretty." Yep, his manners were pure Leon-taught.
Cressida gratefully sat, legs crossing, and began laying out the meals for both of her children. "Looks like we both have charmers, huh, Ice?" she laughed.

"Anemone does that with anyone," said Leon, which was a patent lie: but he was starting to feel the odd father's predicament of being critical of any little boy his daughter was affectionate of. (Except for Quixana, who didn't count.) "She likes other people."
"Fsss," said Annie, and curled up against Walter's back and the chair: she promptly started to suck her thumb and doze off, being uninterested with everything else that was going on. Her mother was there, so obviously it was a safe time to get in some sleep. (It was a fairly Kodak moment.)

"Thank you Quixana. And Annie's very sweet." Ice agreed with a grin as she handed Kitsu her food, watching as the little girl eyed the plastic wrapped toy blankly. She had never had a happy meal? Weird... But she said nothing, merely reached out and helped her unwrap the toy. "Walter's pretty good with girls, he's got three sisters after all, right Walter?"
"Yeah, but they're all older." Walter said, digging into his chicken nuggets. I'm still the baby of the family." He added, as if proud of that fact. He should be, Ice thought, he was spoiled because of it. He paused, looking at the car in his toy bag. "Wha'd you get, Xana?"

The brunette held up a bright red car and smiled. "And it's my favorite color," he announced cheerfully. Then he craned his neck to better peer at his sister, placidly sucking her thumb and half-asleep behind his friend. "She's not bothering you, is she?"
"It's a full house!" Cressida declared with a laugh. She delicately selected a french fry and nibbled, head tilted to one side. "I don't know how you manage it. Quixana and Anemone and their attendants keep us going day and night and it's just two, well, four of them."

"And that's all we're having," Leon agreed placidly, as he sorted through Anemone's happy meal to double-check that the toy in there had nothing she could swallow. "Though Kitsumai seems like a good girl."

Kitsumai nodded, looking serious as she nibbled on her own chicken nuggets. She tried to be good!
"Oh, Kisa and Jade are adults." Ice said, shaking her head. "They're great babysitters. They're both going to college, and Jade's got a job as a receptionist at a doctor's office." She went on, smiling at Kitsu. "But yes, Kitsu's a very good girl."
A faint blush crossed Kitsu's cheek, happy with the praise.

"And lovely." Cressida turned her smile on the centaur-girl and nodded warmly. "I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself properly, lovely," she apologized. "It's hard when you have so many little monkeys around." Reaching out, she ruffled Quixana's hair who bore it with weighty patience.
Quixana set his car on the table, just out of any kind of flailing arm from his little sister, and then began tucking into his chicken nuggets. "D'ya think your mommy will let you come over?" he asked Walter in between bites. "I wanna show you what Santa brought and we need more adventures."

"Adventures that involve being inside and not going anywhere off the property," his father said (more than hypocritically, considering his own childhood.) Then: "Anemone, take your tongue out his ear." (She didn't.)

"It's kinda wet..." Walter said before looking at Quixana. "Yeah! I wanna come over! You should come over sometime, too! Cept we should stay away from stop signs, cuz Ma' said we don't wanna go to jail again... tho I don't know why. The cop lady was nice and comfy!"
Kitsu nodded and held up her notebook that had her kname written on it, decorated with flowers and curly lines.
"Kitsu can't talk. We're learning sign language, though." Ice said, not sounding bothered by that fact at all.

"That's a good idea. I know some but it's been -so- long." Cressida absently rearranged her fries again. Her free hand pointed to the notebook. "Now that is gorgeous, sweetie," she complimented. "And I know art. Leon made these earrings that I'm wearing." Tilting her head, she shook away a curl of mahogany hair to display daringly dangly earrings. Especially daring considering Anemone's tendency to grab things that interested her.
"-Arrested-?" Quixana paused, nugget halfway to his mouth. "But that's -bad-. That's really bad. It's..." He searched for the appropriate word and, in doing so, his eyes settled on Leon and sparked memory. "It's dishonorable." But then the little monkey came back in time to have Xana lean closer and whisper, "Better not to ever, ever get caught."

"They're not one of my better pieces," Leon said, an obvious Tragic Artist. "But they look better on Cressida. - You could learn to lipread too, I suppose: I can't remember any sign language... Was there a reason that Walter got arrested?" (Obviously Leon was fond of Ice, as he was saying lots of sentences.) "Anemone, take your tongue out of Xana's ear."
Due to her brother coming up close, Annie had decided it was a good idea to switch. She made no more noise than a particularly evil giggle when told to desist.
