Thats so mean taking someone elses hard work....Isnt it better to draw for yourself and learn from it instead of taking anothers and not really getting any experience from it apart from the guilt of stealing?
I feel sorry for those who take others work for their own anyway. It just goes to show that they cant be botherd to work for themselves.

question: can you copy a pic (drawing it yourself of course) and post it here if you clearly state that it was based on another image and take no credit for the creativity of it?

No, we ask that you post those in the Picture Post section of the Gaia forums since we can't really offer any critique that you can't see for yourself in the original artwork. Just be sure to give due credit in those forums as well.

Ah, I have a quick question. Would it be considered art theft if someone traced a particular picture so that it looks almost exactly as if it's from the Anime it comes from?

Yes, it's theft. Not only does it not help you learn, but it is most definitely not your own, original artwork.

Razz_son_of_Odin Sorry if this seems like discussion but I really would like to know if this picture is a bannable offense. Sense I did it for a friend on ffxi named arianne. It is summoner af and I did it just from looking at the screen when we where hunting for the deadly dodo in the canin near jueno. To redirate those are all my basic drawing concepts, but I looked at the charecter on screen which was 3D and is no way anime like, also I would like to add isn't it the same as drawing a gaian?: I will delete this post after you have answered my question sorry if this is agianst the rules I would just not like to get banned for this. The artwork MUST be your own work and we do not accept tracing or copying. Copying is the act of looking at a picture and trying to draw what you see. I read through the guidlines yet im still confused on one point, it really wasn't the same as copying an image it was more like taking a picture of a real person but from a game and drawing them out such as. Then agian I guess that is a picture of myself and not of a 3D charecter on a game, also I am sorry about the length of this I just really would like to know so I have to ask in detail toget a good response, also like I said befor I am going to delete this right after I get your opinion, that is if you would like me to or then agian you could also use this for future refrence if you wish you have my promission. Also seeing as I took the picture and that alows me full rights to it I would say besides the brand name, does this also raise up any issues? Sincerly, Christian Seth Sternagel A.K.A (Razz)

Should you report here about traced or copied pics? I have seen couple eyeballed pics here... sweatdrop And if the pics are copied from real artists like Rumiko Takahashi or some other mangaka should they be reported here?

@ Razz_son_of_Odin I'm going to say that this is allowable. Since what you were doing was more like drawing from life, and since you made the image different from the character on screen, it's ok. This is not to be confused with copying a drawing and only changing a thing here and there as this is still copying and against the rules. What you did is different. Now, I'd have to see what you were looking at to really make a judgement call on this, but it sounds like you basically did a portrait of a character from a game. This would qualify as fanart.
I feel like I didn't explain that well.... Let me know if you're still unclear or confused the rules.

Just out of curiousity, someone mentionned Rumiko Takahashi, so I'll use her as an example: Let's say I were to draw Ranma, but I came up with the idea of the picture and the poses, etc. can I still do this? or is fan art not even allowed? With the internet nowadays, you can get ANYTHING on the internet, and usually people don't get caught, and when they do, those people usually don't care. (I'm saying usually because it makes it fair to everyone) So you cannot stop people from taking your own work. and when people show off that owrk, because many people wont notice, the theif could have just said: "es, I did contact the original artist" but in reality he didn't. Ok I think I might have confused a few people... Anyways, is there anyway one can show their work while making sure it won't get "stolen?" PM me if you're still lost
