Theres only three ways I could believe a conflict between lycans and vampires, and those would be:

1. The fact they acknowledge each other as predators and may feel threatened.

2. The fact they may both be above average to highly aggressive and they just plain don't like things that don't step down to them.

3. It's a matter of food, which could be where the werelings come in at in this matter.

Yes.
The only time I've seen 'lycan' use is when it was together with lycanthrope as a means to describe oneself, of course.
This was before the movies. And before therianthrope was coined.
People would say lycanthrope, or bat lycanthrope if they couldnt find a better word. Even though they really know lycan was wolf. They would have to then explain why they said it that way, naturally.

I think we may have accidentally shut down some people who posted on the first page, lol. I don't really hold on to strong believe about the details of such things.

And I agree with your points about the word heritage stuff. I like Dedecor Vir, or Vir Dedecor, either way its cool.

I think that having a council to settle meanings and definitions would be pretty hards, since we would be trying to write out new magic encyclopedias, and we know that there are plent of them now awadays that still don't agree all the time.

I don't like these people who act as if they know something about werewolves and vampires (Or anything abnormal) just because they've had an experience with it once or something. They usually think about it too much and make up some stupid explaination that they accept because it makes sense. I've seen it all over this forum. You can pretty much tell who speaks from real experience and who has fooled themselves. People need to learn to not accept things for fact without reason. They need to realize that very few things are certain or a fact. I just stick with what I've experienced myself, I don't trust other peoples summary of their knowledge usually.

Ok, now as for lycanthropes: throughout history, cases of werewolves have almost always been born that way. That is the majority of stories, some claim to have induced the shapeshift with some form for magick. I believe I only know of one instance in history where the werewolves were created through contamination, and that was in a european family, meaning they shared the same blood so the wounds may have been meaningless. So I'm abit skeptical of the contamination idea and werewolves in general. Most, if not all, werewolf cases could have been nothing but a cannabalistic individual with an imagination warped by the obsession with werewolf conspiracies of the past. (for those who don't know, there were quite a few instances where "werewolves" were caught and put on trial, somewhat of a trend that occured all over europe at different times)

((This post may make me seem overly skeptical about the subject but I'm just looking to offer an alternative viewpoint. However, I hear some of you here have fascinating and convincing experiences with the subject, if you're willing to share, I'm listening. I've never had experiences with lycanthropes. But seeing as I've dealt with other crazy stuff that "doesn't exist", I'm an open ear.))

Hm.. Before I read any more of this. I'd like to make a few statements.

Quote:

There are people who are actual weres and vampires. Some may even lurk these boards and many others. So to say 'people who act'... for me, certainly, it is nothing of an act.

I'd mind your words, on what you "think" you know.
And that pretty much goes for anyone on any subject.

I will agree with this.
No Were is ever 'made'. If this ever happens in history it is a mix up with vampire myths. Or if someone ever had said that they can be, these people are mixing alot up. The only reason why someone should feel this way is if their 'inner selves' were dormant and then from some loud event they were 'awaken' and then some words may fly around and the person might think they were 'turned'.

Blah. Its BS.

See, I don't think I know very much, I don't like people who think they do and throw fluffy crap around. I just think some people too quickly rationalize what they don't easily understand. I understand that werewolves and vamps may lurk the boards and I target no-one specifically with my words. I just needed a place to post that, because if people too quickly assume they know the truth, they don't often go back to the drawing board with their ideas, should the need to occur. This leads to closed minds. Only when people realize that they don't really know very much for sure can progress be made. Also, this forum and many like it seem to have a lack of skeptics. I'm trying to fill in the role abit, even though I believe in the majority of things discussed.

I will admit that I may have been abit harsh with my statement, just fuming off some steam. Please excuse anything you see truly insulting in my previous statement, I might go back and rewrite it in a much nicer way.

(I hope this doesn't piss anyone else off. neutral )

No, I'm glad you did.
I too agree there is a lack of skepticism. Too many fluffs on gaia to begin with. But what are ya gonna do. Too many role-players that think their parents are vampire and werewolves. And that they are hybrids. Even though thats possible. It doesn't exactly work that way. Too many people who will 'hate' vampires because supposedly their whole family has been 'wolves' for generations, and "when a vampire enters the 'house'" it just isn't 'right'. Oh yes. You can meet alot of kids (shakes fist at ignorance) who think they know what they are dealing with when they talk so blatantly in Gaia fishing rooms rofl .

Good. wink

I agree with the rest of this paragraph. No needs ta explain that.

No, really. I'm glad you did.
I have a tendancy to defend things I truely know and believe. And when, well, when things are threatened, it'll go down like a fat kid on a see-saw.

Tis why I replied so quickly, and then edited. and edited again. Finally reading all of what was said. I'm the champion of over-reacting to certain things. Especially things I care about. whee

I like how every simile I come across is about fat kids.

"...Thats like asking the fat kid to guard the pie."

"...faster then a fat kid out the window when the ice-cream truck goes by."

"...it'll go down like a fat kid on a see-saw."

Seriously though, I am all about appropriate skepticism. Unfortunatly, the people who have posted somewhat 'outlandish' statements have yet to reply.

Cool to have you around for it though.

Yay for fat kid jokes! XD.

Sometimes I rather have those people tell their many cents in a convo, right or wrong, and just to see how people are. And if it is really outlandish, I'll sit back and laugh. rofl

Lol, I woke up this morning wondering if I'd get to this post to find a bunch of people yelling at me and I'm so glad I didnt. Anyway, what even happened to the original poster? I know that when I post stuff I always check it often but I guess it might just be that they can't check their post right now.

I think this topic was rather funny... "were wolf truths".... Legends of shifting, anthropomorphism, and the like have been around of ages. To have anyone do even 50 years of research and say they have the answers to what a were wolf is is just silly. So far there has and always will be two seperate were forms... Zoanthrope and Therianthrope. Zoanthropes are the shifter types who can physically shift their bodies and the Therians are weres that only have the "phenotype", but not a genotype to build off of to shift. Yeah, there's tons of legends of a viral way to shift, a heigharchy (spelling) or genetic/pedigre theory of shifting... But as the world gets older, and more and more people work on the fact of "seeing is believing", the idea of physical shapeshifters are dwindled down to "they aren't real" and the mentally shiftable are pursacuted as "nutjobs" or "fad livers" (which beats being stoned or burned to death anyday really). I agree that many legends are far fetched, but some are kinda believable. I mean, does me saying that I believe some legends to be true make me crazy? Wull, if it does then there goes most of the world populated by Christians (low blow, but I am not sorry).

Sorry for rambling here... It's late, I'm tired, and just wanted to say a few things as they came to mind. Oh.... and I wish people would stop calling weres Lycans. .....it was a stupid movie coined phrase and now it's like the hip new label.... Just as many anthro artists hate being called furries, I hate the word Lycan. I'll shut up now *get's ready to go to sleep*
