It's just plain ignorant to put down someone else's art! Show some respect! You may not like it but they do! They may not be out there to beat everyone, they just might enjoy what they do. Every art is different and the people practicing them are different as well. One may be good at general arts and others really good at one art. Iv done both mma and muay tai and they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Anyways now that i got that out, i like muay tai. I took a seminar on it before and learned alot that i could transfer into my martial art (TKD) and when im not sparing in the class room it works! The only thing i dont like about the art is it's dissaproval of women practicing it. I saw a show on it (Deadly Arts) and i was impressed on the training and the matches but the oldtime masters dissaprove and had to clense the ring after a female had been in it. sweatdrop

I believe Muay Boran is the "Ancient/Traditional" stuff. I guess stuff popularized in Ong Bak? I wouldnt know

Yup, thats the short end of it. Its where the Ram Muay comes from. they have the equivilent of "kata" in there, and techniques that don't cater to the glove. Its really good stuff, if you like Muay Thai. The problwm is, just like wit any other Martial Art, the one wants to stay pure from the other. Similar to Gi jiujitsu and "No" gi jiujitsu and so on. But the people that are good at Muay Thai, and incorportate a few Boran techs here and there in their game? They really excel. Thats definitely Buakaw.

Muay Thai and kick boxing: what exactly is the difference? I know there is a difference, but I can't put my finger on it...
PostPosted: Sat Aug 18, 2007 8:43 pm

Well, Muay Thai is called "the Science of the Eight limbs" meaning 2 hands, 2 feet, 2 elbows, and 2 knees... however in Muay Thai, they also use the shoulders and the head as well... but thats besides the point.

Kickboxing originally started out as Full Contact Karate, with legal targets being the head, the trunk, the upper and lower legs. Any type of punch and kick were legal during this time. Alot of Karate styles flourished at this time, and people like Benny "The Jet"Uriqidez and Bill "Superfoot" Wallace were big. Well, with the popularization of Muay Thai, they began to compete in these competitons as well. The rules being alot more limited to what they traditionally fight with. Muay Thai uses elbows and knees, Full Contact Karate doesn't. Over time, the rules were adapted to include knees, but no elbows.... which is where the current state of Kickboxing is at. Also they limit they amount of time you can clinch and other things, becuase they other styles like Karate and so on, don't have these tools. At a Kickboxing match, you can find a few different styles of kickboxing... some karate styles, some taekwondo styles, some hybrids crap, and Muay Thai styles.

So in short, kickboxing is "kicks" + boxing. Muay Thai is kicks, punches, elbows, knees, and clinching in short.

Buakaw's style doesn't look as "exotic" as Saenchai:

I only heard you mention Saenchai once and that was earlier in this thread, I think

I've known about Saenchai because a guy on K-1Fans.com is at his camp

Muay Thai is the Thai name for a form of hard martial art practiced in several Southeast Asian countries including Thailand, Cambodia (where it is known as Pradal Serey), Malaysia (where it is known as Tomoi) and as a similar style in Myanmar (called Lethwei). The different styles of fighting in mainland South East Asia are analogous to the different types of Kung Fu in China or Silat in the South East Asian islands or Malay World. It is the national sport of Thailand, and is also known as Thai Boxing or Art of the Eight Limbs.

Muay Thai has a long history in Thailand. Today, the Thai military uses a modified form of Muay Thai called Lerdrit. Traditional Muay Thai, as it is practiced today, varies slightly from the original art and uses kicks and punches in a ring with gloves similar to those used in Western boxing. Muay Thai is referred to as "The Science of Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. A master practitioner of Muay Thai thus has the ability to execute strikes using eight "points of contact," as opposed to "two points" (fists) in Western boxing and "four points" (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts. Muay Thai is an especially versatile, brutal, straightforward martial art.

Vajrabhairav! Thank you for being smart enough to see the truth.

The rest of you are most likely American Idiots. UFC of K-1 don't count as "REAL FIGHTS" . So stop comparing different styles/methods in egotism, it shows how stupid you are and annoys those of us that are open minded.

Thank God there are still some people with respect of styles up in this guild. I had really given up for a moment there. It's not combat effective if you've got a ref telling you to break every ten seconds. Period. The Gong fu styles you guys bash all the time are still here for a reason, and it's not the same one as all that Pride fighting stuff. Show some respect for stuff. Anyways is Muay Boran taught at all still? If so, where do you learn it?

Yeah, it's not real fighting, because in a real fight, anyone with strong wrestling and a knowledge of submissions will put you on your back and headbutt you to death.

Martial J is seriously the biggest tard since that wolf f*****t.
