Nearly stepping on a plastic trashcan, she burst into Ian’s room. He looked up, surprised. A moment of silence passed between them, Sam wondering how she should explain herself, and Ian wondering what the hell she was doing. He spotted the duct tape. “Cameras?” He asked. Sam paused again. How had he known? Oh, right, duct tape. “I don’t mind them. You don’t have to cover `em up or anything.” He continued. Sam shook her head slightly. “I don’t see how you can sleep with them watching you, but oh well. I need to talk to you.” She raised her duct tape and pointed at the camera. “And I don’t want them to hear.” She stared at him pointedly. “So either I cover those cameras up, or we go to my room.”

"Oh, my God..." Ian muttered as he rolled his eyes. He waved her away, "Fine, cover the bleedin' cameras. What do you want to talk to me about?" He slammed the magazine against the soft bed and waited for Sam's answer.

Sam smiled and began covering the cameras with duct tape, talking as she went. “Sorry I burst in here like that,” she began. “I just realized that I forgot to cover these cameras, that’s all.” She stopped and stared at Ian. “Actually, I wanted to talk about the next match.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Elsewhere, a large man in a business suit swore as the screen in front of him went dark. His already red face deepened to a sickly purple color as he grabbed the nearest crewman by the collar. “Curse that dratted girl! She disabled all of the cameras except the one in the fridge!” He shook the unfortunate young man and pushed him at a wall. “Get a team down there to fix them!”
The young man flinched as his manager shouted. He really had had enough of that. Mr. Voleard was infamous for going into rages where he’d fire half the crew. Jason had somehow managed to avoid this, always being quiet and keeping out of the way. He was actually off duty right now, and being assaulted like this certainly was not on his agenda for the evening.
Still, he sighed and mumbled “Yes Sir” before scampering off to assemble a team to fix the cameras.
"What do you mean?" Ian gave her the eye. He wondered if maybe she was as nervous as him. After all, he wasn't the most 'in shape' human being and yet, he would be competing for a life time trip round the universe.
Sam took a deep breath. “Its just…” She sat down on a nearby chair. “I'm really nervous, that’s all.” They had been prohibited from using their phones, or leaving the hotel, so they were isolated. Sam was nervous and she needed someone to talk to, even if it was a complete jerk. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Doctor smiled. He was glad that she was being open. Unbeknownst to them, he had personally placed a camera in each of the bedrooms. They weren’t part of the regular system, and they were future technology that blended in with the wall. He stared intently at the monitor. She was being open, but would He?
Ian smirked at her and folded his arms across his chest. "Well you should be. I mean when I get out there," he said, "There's no way to stop my from finding that golden orb thing." His confidence metre inched down as he couldn't remember what that item was called.
He stood up and walked over to his closet where he had already hung most of his clothes. He scanned the closet, giving himself time to think about this girl. "Why..." he began as he squinted his eyes. "Why would you even be that nervous?"
The Doctor frowned. The haughty answer was obviously a lie, and didn’t like it. Surely Ian knew how nervous the girl was. Perhaps he hadn’t noticed her shaky smile, or her clenched hands. Still, the simple courtesy of telling the truth in favor of bravado had proved too much for him, and the Doctor certainly noticed that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sam listened to the young man, confidence failing. She had been sure that he was just as nervous as her, and even in he wasn’t he didn’t have to be rude about it. Sam glared at him, eyes and glasses shining viciously. He wanted to know why she was nervous? Fine, she would tell him.
She rose from her chair, fists clenched. “You really want to know? I’ll tell you” She began, her voice subdued and dripping with venom. “Tomorrow, when we get to that maze, I don’t know what's going to happen. There could be a hedge maze, simple as that. But, you and I both know its not going to be that easy. It is going to be dangerous, and one or both of us could get seriously injured.”
Slowly, she made her way to the dresser where Ian was standing, boring a hole into his eyes with her glare. “There could be anything out there, but we don’t know what it is because that would be breaking the rules. So we are both kept in ignorance, fretting away at something we cant help. And it’s not just me.” By this time, she had completely backed him up against the wardrobe. She leaned in, her eyes dark. “You’re afraid too.”
The words hung in the thick air, only to be interrupted by a loud knock. Sam snapped back and stared at the door. Glancing back at Ian she gave a toothy smile that sent chills down his spine. “I’d better get the door.” she remarked. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Doctor sat still in his chair. He had just seen a completely different side of this girl. Only moments before, she had been frightened and small, cowering in front of Ian, but now she seemed to tower over him. The hatred in her eyes was unmistakable. Even over the camera, the Doctor was unnerved. Did this happen often? Perhaps she wouldn’t be the best choice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The young cameraman, Jason had by this time assembled a sort of ragtag crew to fix the cameras. He hadn’t had much time, Mr. Voleard was already getting antsy from his small delay. So, Jason and five other people packed into a small company van and made the voyage to the hotel.
He really had needed more time to find a better crew. All he had managed were a bunch of “new recruits” as Mr. Voleard liked to call them, and among them were two brothers who did not stop bickering the entire way there. By the time they arrived at the hotel door, Jason had a glaring migraine. He was tired, hungry, not even officially supposed to be at work still, and he had had to put up with about all the crap he could handle for an hour.
And that was from a fifteen-minute ride. The poor young man quieted down the brothers, who had been about to start another fight, and proceeded to knock on the door. Two, loud firm knocks, giving an air of authority and confidence that was seriously lacking from his face. Still, he thought he might as well make a good impression, from what he’d heard of this girl, she could change moods very quickly. She might manage to throw them out if he was a complete pushover.
The cameraman who she had refused to let in the car had come back to the studio in a rage, ranting about what a terrible person she was. Of course, Jason didn’t believe it. Some of the cameramen tended to get rude when they didn’t get what they wanted. Still, after what she did to the hidden cameras, Jason couldn’t help but feel terribly nervous. He held his breath in anticipation. Who would answer the door?
Ian swallowed hard as Sam left to get the door. Well of course he was nervous, but he would never let the girl know that! He sighed and layed back down on his bed when Sam left the room. He picked up his magazine and shouted from his room, "Who is it?"
((Yey for the new camera man guy! Does this mean you'll be playing him too?))
Gaia Name: Lullabee Name: Taika Delaney Age: 21 Occupation: Assistant teacher at a preschool Species: Human (from the 24th century, mind you) Gender: Female Appearance: Taika has light brown hair dyed dark green at the ends and blue-grey eyes. She has a bit of a tan and even though her face isn't stunningly beautiful, she's definitely at least cute. (It's her opinion, based on careful although not terribly thorough observation, that she has absolutely no idea if prettiness is any advantage here.) She's about medium height, perhaps on the tallish side, and tends to dress a bit scruffily when she thinks she can get away with it. She's pretty sure right now isn't one of those times, so even though her clothes probably look odd to most people from the 21st century, they're mostly odd in a good way.
Taika had arrived late, and was feeling lucky she hadn't been disqualified. There'd been a rather cryptic casting call posted around her home town, including a rather facetious list of requirements such as "ability to walk, roll, teleport, fly, be carried very easily, or otherwise get from point A to point B", "get along with other human beings and likewise, or at least not provoke them to throttle you", "ability to have fun", and "smarter than the average bear" for people "interested in traveling through time and space. If you don't think we're nuts be at Howell Park, ten paces north of the gazebo, at 11 AM Saturday or Sunday." As she'd read a bit about the Doctor on the website The People's Republic of Information, she'd thought she had a vague conception what this was about. She'd been the only person there that Saturday, and had found a rather nervous-looking redhaired man with a blue police box, who'd explained further, answered most questions with, "I don't know, I'm just an employee," and off they went.
Long story short, they'd arrived three hours late, the redhead had apologized profusely, and Taika had soon found herself having a rather rushed interview with a young man who looked rather as though someone had glued his hair to the ceiling and tied a weight to his feet out of despair that he hadn't grown since he was twelve, with rather odd results. Or at least that was the image that had occurred to her, and she'd had to hold back giggles. This was the Doctor? Still, the interview hadn't been terribly easy, and he hadn't let her start asking him questions such as "Don't you feel exploited?" and "Does whoever wins get to a promise you won't dump them on an asteroid?" He had something of a talent for frowning at you over his reading glasses that'd sobered her up a bit. Even though it was a rather dimpled frown.
So she'd gone back to her dorm room, fairly sure she hadn't gotten herself written off just yet. Boredom had quickly set in, and she'd gone to make herself a snack. Realizing that this was rather reminiscent of every reality TV show she'd ever seen, she'd checked the refrigerator for cameras, found one, and amused herself for a while enacting various food jokes for the camera's benefit, hoping it had a microphone. But after a while, the fun of drawing faces on tomatoes and having the Italian vinaigrette scold the tomato to go away because it, the vinaigrette, was dressing wore off. She flopped on the bed and stared at the ceiling, worrying about tomorrow's challenge.
((Do you want me to actually RP the interview? Seems that'd be a bit of a bother, to go back and do another interview, but it could work.))
((Nah you don't have to do that. But nice post! And just so you know, all the contestants share one roomish thing. They all have seperate rooms but it's really like a giant house for them to live in.))
Since Sam didn't give him a reply, Ian headed over to see what the new contestant was up to. They had just recieved word that someone new was arriving and Ian wanted to meet her before it got too late.
He walked into her room and leaned on the doorframe. "Hey," he said. "I heard you're the new contestant. What's your name?"
((Oh, oops. Since it's a hotel, I kind of thought we were just all in these little suites or something...))
She sat up suddenly, startled. "Oh, hi! I'm Taika. You must be... oh, he said something funny, when I asked your name. The Doctor did, I mean. He told me! But then he started chattering about someone called Crabtree or Chesterlee or something. You're... Ian, that's it!"
She looked a bit odd. It was immediately apparent she's not from around here in a temporal sense. She wore a knee-length, sleeveless, Mandarin-collared tunic, red at the top and shading toward yellow at the bottom, slim-fitting yellow trousers, and black sandals of a slightly odd design. The outfit clashed slightly with her hair.
"I got here sort of late, for some reason. I came all the way from 2313, which I gather is... not now. What year is this?"
