Del repeated the motion and almost fell to her knees, this thing was like Echo on a leash, once it started damn but it was hard to stop. It was not possible to swing it and not have to step forewanrd to her her balance. Of course stepping forward meant that she sort of gave in to it and and the pull got a bit stronger. This was clearly a lose lose situation.
It took considerably longer for the dolphin girl to master swing ing the mace. Even then it was less mastery then havent leanrt the ability to not let the mace pull her once she swung it. " It's like I have to use my own force to pull againt the previous force of swinging becuase the mace is heavy and goes sort of where it wants." To date the girl had had spotty luck at swinging the mace and keeping it at a steady height. Still she was determined to get this right.
Another ten minutes and her rubbyer gray skin was producing sweat but she could hold the height steady for the most part. " How long did it take you to get good at this?" She inquired.

The man watched, ocaisionally giving a bit of advice if she seemed to need it, though in general he let her practice on her own. That was a large part of learning how to use a weapon. Getting the basics and expanding them through repetition. Certainly you learned more advanced forms, but you needed to work with those too.
"That is why I said that mastering the force and not letting it control you would be the first step." He replied to her comment, continuing to watch. at least there were no holes in the wall yet.
"Hmm? Oh, it wasn't so simple." In truth he'd read enough books on how to counter the weight that he'd quickly found a way that worked for him. He wasn't a master as some of theother teachers might have been, but he knew how to swing it without losing his balance. "Time is your greatest ally in learning. You must have patience if you wish to improve."

Del nodded but sighed she was getting a bit tired and this thing was admittedly not light. " Are we almost done for today?" There was a hint of whining in her tone.

An eyebrow raised at the girls question. Done? She hadn't even begun to get good at balancing the weight. He also disliked the tone she'd taken. If anything the question earned her points against passing. "You will be done when you can control the weight enough to string a second swing after the first without losing control." His statement was flat and said there would be no way around it.
"However, you may take a five minute break if you need it." He wasn't completely evil though.

Del smiled gratefully and hauled herself and the mace over to the wall. She leaned the weapon against it and then sunk to the floor. Her body could handle a bit of a work out but this was true effort. Even shoveling show the other day hadn't been that bad. of course she'd usually only done about a thord of each driveway in the time Echo cleared the rest. He however had more weight to him and acted like a giant plow.
Five minutes later she was up again a bit refreshed and willing to get through this. " Any certian sort of swings have to be combined? "

Once more the book was the center of attention as the girl flopped over off to the side. A few pages and he was to a files regarding one of the snake children. They didn't have enough poisonous things already? Not that it was his problem until they marched into his class.
He glanced up as the girl spoke again. Obviously she was ready to try once more. Fabulous. "None specifically, just keep in mind that it is you swinging, not the weapon. You must not lose control durring either attack."

Del took the words into consideration. A swing foreward followed by one back would work as long as she planned it out first. She'd need to balance everything and try not to over think things lest she forget something. Too much could go wrong if she made a mistake.
Once again she moved into practice, fugiring out when to move her tfeelt and tail in coordination to when she pushed and pulled. Then she had to work on adjusting her grip and not overotating her body. it was not an easy process puttign it all togeather. She now understood why she hadn't been able to leave, there was so much left to learn"
Finally she stated her readyness and moved into action. left hand bottom but top of pole in grip. right hand top but under pole in grip. Mace diagonal to the floor. She stepped forward and swumg out pushing the head away from her but not letting it's weight control the swing. stillher wrists burned at the effort. she began tp uppl back pulling the mace the way it had come. A third of the way she stepped back and to the side so she was now facing what was her right. She completed the second swing then and managed to end up in the same pose as before just facing a new direction.
" Was that ok?" The dolphin girl certianly hoped so, she hadtried her best and held the mace at as steayd a level as she could while controlling the swing. Eventually she assudred herself she'd controll it all.

Haruki watched in silence as the girl practiced. She was putting in the effort to do better at it, which was what really got things done in the end. Natural ability and skill were great, but effort mattered most in the end. It was what determined pass or fail in most of the classes. Did you try hard enough, or not?
The girl was adjusting her own mistakes enough that there was no need for him to comment or give advice. She was learning through experience, which was, not that Haruki liekd to admit it, one of the best ways to learn. He couldn't complain with the method so for the time being it suited the classes purpose.
As the girl swung maintaining her balance through not one, but both of the strikes he nodded. Perfect? No. But she's obviously learned to respect the weapon and the effort it took to wield it. That was an important lesson to learn. "Very good. It's obvious that you certainly are a novice with the weapon, but you have taken to mind what was said and applied it. That was the purpose of the class." It was meant as praise, hopefully she took it as that. "Do not, by any means, think this means you need not practice. Continual use with a weapon will build up strength and further confidence with it. You would be able to complete tasks such as today's with absolute ease through further practice." In other words, he expected her to take time out of her schedule to improve. "However, for today's lesson that will be all. Keep in mind what has been said and practice. You are excused."

She passed? She could go home hurrah. More importantly she passed and he had liked it sort of. Well she was pretty sure she'd been praised anyways.
Though she was sweaty del still lowered her wepaon and hugged her teacher quickly " Thanks so much for teaching me and I'll practice all the time. One day I'll be really good , probably when I'm a superhero and then you can be all proud and stuff." the words flew from her mouth as she relased the man and darted for the door.
Echo stood and gave the man a look of pity before following her partner out.
