Ah, so this was a revenge matter...a significant revenge matter. Well, that was just unpleasant on principal; Safi was one of those that loathed conflict of any sort and he'd actually developed his sense of humor as a direct result of that loathing. Apparently Amoena felt differently...

"First off, Amey, I have to tell you that I have no idea how to teach you how to fly; hell, I don't know if it's even possible for you to fly without wings. If there's a way to fly with legs it's a concept completely foreign to me, and I'd likely be more harm than good if you wanted to learn that way."

Hopefully this admission wouldn't be that much of a shock to her, but at the same time he felt as though she was unusually intense. Time to go all serious yet again; family privilege! "And I have to say, even if you knew how to fly it probably wouldn't help that much in a fight. What even makes you think that he CAN fix your mother? I can understand the desire to get back at him for hurting her mother, but if this Shadow is that dangerous, what's to stop him from doing the same thing to you? And then, who will help your mother?"

Well. That was it then. He didn't have a way. She shrugged having expected this and was about to turn and start walking back to her home when his words stopped her. She whirled about abandoning her trip to check on her mother anger flaring in her eyes. "He is not strong!" She snapped taking a sort of fighting stance her anger raising her temperature quite a bit.

"He's week! I beat him like I did to that tree and he fought back much less!" She snarled starting to straighten up trying to calm her self. She didn't need to take this out on her uncle too she needed someone she could at least talk to and if she got mad now he'd probably never talk to her again. "I don't know if he can fix her but I'm gonna make sure he at least tries..."

She turned to look back at the village. She could see smoke rising from the fires but the actual tepees were hidden by the hills. She wondered if her mother was still dwelling over that stallion as Ameona was now. She wondered if he was plaguing her dreams and if he was she'd just make him pay twice a much. "Uncle Safi...if I can't help her...you will?" It was a question but she said it as a demand. It was a fact. He would or she'd haunt him forever.

Well, this was certainly an unusual situation for Safi to be in. Granted, it was totally normal for a mare to be asking him advice; moreso since it was advice about a stallion...but usually it was romantic advice, not revenge advice. What exactly did one say to a vengeful neice? Probably not the same things one would say to soothe a jilted mare, that was for sure.

Still, Safi had to admit that he was a little awed by how intensely Amoena felt about this particular stallion, even if those feelings were very negative. She was passionate, this neice of his.

"Well, since I saw you take out that tree with my own eyes I'll believe what you say about it's relative strength. I'm sure that you can understand my confusion, though, given the fact that I'm unfamiliar with the situation." To put it mildly. He wasn't sure, but from the general tone of Amoena's voice and her wording, he had a strong suspicion that Shadow was a lover of some sort of Lunathiel's. Even though he knew that Luna and Kohana weren't 'together', it still seemed like an odd conflict of interest for him.

But that didn't really matter when one was being asked for help. Inclining his head slightly at his neice, he gave her a smile. "Like you really need to ask? Of course, Amey; you guys are family."

Amoena watched him very closely, studying his every move, listening for his words to falter and show he didn't mean what he was saying. It never came. She gave him a relieved smile in return and moved forward to nudge him happily. "Thank you Uncle..."She was returning to her more foal-like demeanor at the thought. She wasn't alone in this anymore. If she failed Safi would take over and that was all that really mattered.

This warm and fuzzy moment, however, had to stop. She was glad for his help but there was no way she was just going to turn into a puddle of mush because of it. To break the sort of spell of the moment she tilted her head and pulled on a black section of her uncle's mane before trotting away head held high. She grinned at him flicking her tail about casually before high stepping in circles around.

"So old man, if you can't teach me to fly then I want another prize." She said firmly nodding her head. She appeared to be completely over the moment but inside there was a warmth that she wouldn't let leave. That little light that burned fiercely in her heart to show her how she was stronger with two.

"Anytime, Amey." Even as Amoena was trying to fight the sappiness of the moment, Safi was trying to get past the seriousness of it; he had never been good at maintaining serious for long, and was always most comfortable when he could crack a joke.

Consequently, he himself was thrilled when she made a move away from serious back into silly, laughing as she yanked at his mane then started prancing around like some sort of filly. "Gee, and here I was just thinking how mature you'd gotten; now all of a sudden it's like you're regressing! Oh well, at least I like foals."

Laughing, he watched her as she capered about, tilting his head to the side and adopting what he felt was a suitably thoughtful expression as she declared her intent for a new prize. "My my but you're a demanding one, aren't you? You must have gotten that from your mother's side, because no one in my family has ever been demanding." A likely story, yeah. "Can't my warm and heartfelt advice count as a prize?"

She laughed shaking her head as she slowed to a stop before her uncle. "You wish." She said tossing her mane back behind her and out of her face. She hadn't quite decided what she was going to ask for yet. She had only wanted to kill the moment but now she was thinking perhaps it would have been better to change the subject some other way. It was to late now though it seemed.

"And as for my maturity and demands..." She smirked bowing her head looking about ready to attack. "I learned them myself!" She stepped back then charged pulling her legs in to jump over Safi. She miss judged the height and wound up crashing straight into him instead. She hit the ground with a thud groaning a bit. "Okay...how about...my prize is...you don't tell anyone about that just now?" She said turning read never feeling so embaressed in her life. "My pride is kinda on the line here..."

Oof; sharp hooves and elbows, right into the side. At least Safi was able to remain standing, which in the face of having a grown mare crash into you was remarkably impressive. "Ow...I'd say that you taking out your upset on your poor defenseless uncle is enough to get you no prize at all, if it weren't for the fact that I'm remarkably nice."

Rubbing with a win at the spot on his side where he'd taken the most damage, Safi's rueful expression was more than indication that this time he was at least partially serious. That had hurt!

Still, he only had to look at Amoena's expression to know that she hadn't exactly intended for that to happen. "Well, I can't say that I'd particularly like this story being bandied about either; what does it say about my reflexes, hmm? Now then, do you need a hand up or are you going to lie there all day?" A valid question, right?

Amoena actually visibly flinched at this. She was also certain her uncle was going to spread this around like a wildfire. "I wasn't trying to hit you..."She muttered in her own defense feeling it was rather pointless now. Then his tone changed along with his words. Not a lot but enough to alert her that she wasn't in for it. Letting out a relieved sigh she smirked, "No thanks. I got this one."

She climbed back to her full height still feeling a little wobbly after the jump but nothing that showed. Finally completely steady she trotted back around her uncle to see the damage. It didn't seem too bad but she could tell there was definitely going to be some bruising." Uh...sorry...didn't mean to crash..." She mumbled feeling a tad guilty. It wasn't enough for her to jump her uncle with apologies but it was just enough to get a simple 'sorry' out of her. "So...you really won't tell anyone...right?"

"Consider it our little secret, Amey." Winking at his neice to let her know that all was good, Safi suddenly turned and fixed her with what could only be described as a scrutinizing eye, one of the few habits he had that could even remotely be referred to as adult. "But now that we've established that all is good and secret in the world once more...what exactly are YOU doing out here this late?"

Ever since her question as to his prescence, he'd been meaning to ask what it was that brought a young mare out into the woods at night. He knew that her teepee was a short distance away; he'd actually meant to show up during the day, but had misjudged how far it was from his place to here and consequently it was dark by the time he arrived; not wanting to wake anyone, he'd decided it would be best to settle down for the night in the woods and pay his visit when it was light out. He hadn't been expecting to have Amoena come out to him, though!

"After all, I told you my story; I'm curious as to why you aren't back at the teepee."

Crystal eyes blinked once, then twice before she started laughing at the question. After everything that she had just told him he was treating her like a child. She wasn't a wet behind the ears filly anymore so why shouldn't she be able to run around with the owls? "Uncle Safi..." She said in a bit of a giggle fit. "I'm not little anymore. I'm allowed to go outside when I'm bored." She shook her head at her Uncle then looked back at her home from habit.

"My mother's drunk, Uncle. I don't want to listen to her useless sleep babble right now so I'm out here til sun up when she'll need help." She turned back to Safi with a bit of a smile. A real smile one that her mother brought to her. "That answer your question old man?" Her smile had vanished replaced with a cocky smirk that felt more natural to her. After all, a real smile was for real ladies. What she wasn't. Amoena wasn't into her looks or catching the right guy. What she wanted was to make her mother happy by eliminating those who caused her pain.

Adopting what he felt was a suitably shocked, innocent, and wounded expression, Safi turned his head towards Amoena so that she could clearly see the look he was giving her. "I don't believe what I'm hearing. Amoena, are you really accusing me, Safi, your best beloved and dearest uncle ever, of treating you like a child? I'm wounded to the core!" As he spoke, a single tear dribbled out of one eye, trailing down his cheek with the speed of a snail. The very idea!

Even if it was true, of course!

Like a person drops a flaming brand, Safi suddenly ditched the teary-eyed wounded approach, laughing and tweaking Amoena's braids with one wing-tip. "Ok, so maybe I am anti-aging you in my mind, but give me a bit of a break, 'k Amey? Last time I see you, you distinctly fell in the 'child' category, and I guess old habits die hard. Besides, do you have any idea how old it makes me feel even considering the idea that you could be sneaking out to meet a lover?"

That time, Safi wasn't able to eliminate the mischievious sparkle from his eyes; perhaps that was a good thing, too, as the last thing he needed was a neice in high dudgeon! "But this time, I'll take your word for it." Incredible as that word was. Luna actually drank two-legger fire water? Remarkable.

"A lover?!" Her face took a look of complete horror. "What kind of horse do you take me for Uncle? I'm not that kind of mare!" She was completely disgusted. Even if her Uncle had been joking that was still simply wrong. There was no room in her life for something so trivial and vile and the fact he even thought about something like that made her stomach churn.

She glared at Safi with a bit of a smirk playing on her face giving her the look of a lunatic. "Don't consider things like that then...ever again..." She muttered trying to hide the slight twitch in her eye. "It makes you feel old and me feel sick...so if you have anymore of those thoughts keep them to yourself!" She shook her self off a bit to remove the unneeded bit of information from her skull.

There was the sort of reaction he liked to see, for a lot of reasons. While he was as pro-love as any other decent Soquili, Safi had to admit to himself that his first thought seeing Amoena had been whether or not she was meeing up with someone. Luckily for them both, her little rendesvous with the tree had proved otherwise, since he honestly couldn't think of what he'd do if his ponderance had proved true.

"Well, that's a load off my mind, Amey; but you've got quite the guttermind if you jumped to the conclusion I think you did. Perhaps boyfriend would have been a better term?" Still, Safi was grinning as he patted Amoena on the head, the distinctly adult-to-child gesture meant as a reminder that he'd likely always consider her a child. Besides, it wasn't necessary to have someone else around to have a fulfilling life, thankee kindly. Hell, it wasn't even necesary to have someone else to have kids! Sort of.

AT ANY RATE, it was time to drop that subject! "So, your mother is drunk off her gourd again, hrm? Correct me if I'm wrong, Neice-O-Mine...but isn't that the prologue of the story of YOUR life? And Kwahu's, for that matter?" He couldn't help it, he was just a tease. Besides, it wasn't like that story was a secret, so it was bound to be easier for her to discuss than lovers, or lack thereof.

Letting out a heavy sigh Amoena lowered her head allowing her mane to cover her face in shame. "You don't need to remind me Uncle. I think I know my life story well enough...and yes she is drunk again. This time I can blame Bandit for it though..." She grumbled nibbling on her lip remembering very clearly what her mother had told her when she was just a foal.

It had all happened just after she had come from her basket and had confused her then. It would have confused anyone her age after all she didn't even know what fire water was. It occurred to her now that she should have felt bad for what her mother had told her but for some reason it only strengthened her bond.

"Hey Uncle...do you think my mom ever hated me?" She asked curiously looking into the night sky as if looking for an answer. For a moment she felt she should be sad for asking that but it didn't make her feel anything really. "I mean...I was an accident...so...do you think she ever wished I hadn't happened?"

Wow, this was just a night for revelation and serious conversation, wasn't it? At least he wasn't completely out of his element, but of Safi had known he was going to be walking into a serious family discussion...well, he would have had a better supper. Thinking about serious issues was complicated when you weren't used to it.

Still, even Safi could focus when it was necessary. Flipping back his wings, Safi followed suit with his legs and settled own on the ground. "Ok, Amey, this is a topic that would be benefitted by sitting down. So, sit please? And then you'll get to hear your uncle wax serious, a rare occurance in this day and age." A little levity, but for the most part Safi's countenance was serious.
