Perhaps they could both do with some food. He was no hunter- but Codorey had been a hound, and he’d taught him a thing or two about tracking game. He hadn’t actually thought it’d come in handy. “Well then, as a couple of wogs I think we should eat, brother.” he toted, and craned his neck. Nearby there was a splash, but because the water had been moving quickly, he thought nothing of it. When Fluke didn’t respond, he looked upwards.
“Eh-?” He asked, when he noticed in surprise that the male had absolutely vanished from where he stood. The brown creature shook his head back and forth- but when no black and white form was found, his bright blue eyes pinned upon the shape of something blocky and flailing drifting down the river.
Tension suddenly flooded through him, and he pulled backwards in shock. “Agh! Hold on there!” He balked and took off down the embankment. The water was fast- barely a blur as he moved, and after a few lengths of it, Malcolm bitterly realized he wasn’t going to catch up with it. He had about a second to brace himself as he turned around a rock and jumped off the bank, landing in the frigid water with a stab of icy pain. Water spiraled and he fought to pull his head back up, quickly keeping attempting to keep himself upright as he swam towards the other male, who was still drooping into the icey depths.

Water filled his ears, filling his mind with acold ice that threatened to steal his life. Even so Fluke thought he heard a splash, though where from he was unsure. His body had been twisted and spun so many times he wasn't sure which way was up anymore. The sign that he could just about breath was a pretty good give-away that he was somehow staying above the surface.
Not for long however.
In the next moment he was flung sideways again, the current winding him around a large rock that he would otherwise have struck. He tried to yelp but all he could manage was a strained gurgle.
Then suddenly his bleary eyes caught something, something that could bring him a slice of hope oif he dared to let it.
The current had carried him closer to the edge of the river and here a clump of trees grew close to the bank. They looked somewhat flimsy but Fluke didn't care. Their branches drooped into the water and if he could just reach them in time he might be able to...
He made a lame attempt to swim, paddling furiously with his paws, yet agaiun the current beat him. The trees were almost upon him now. If only he could get there...if only!

“Grab the branches-!” Malcolm sputtered as his head got thrust once more into the churning waters. He snorted and shook his head bitterly, reappearing a scant moment later. He’d not had much experience with swimming- but he was a strong dog from pulling the carts. The only dangerous thing about this water was the frigid grip it was starting to have on his legs. It numbed them with thousands of tiny needles, and he had to jerk them about twice as hard to keep the numbness at bay. He wheezed, and looked around. There had to be a second option if Fluke couldn’t make it. Could he swim hard enough to him. He was trying his damnedst, but it seemed like they were both moving at the same rate, even with Mal’s furious paddle strokes. “If you can just-“ His head sunk under, and coughing, he popped back up. “-slow yourself down!”

As if waiting for Malcolm's word, Fluke flung himself as hard as he could through the water. It clung to him with it's suffocating embrace and yet somehow it worked. He was swept further to the side and just in time too...
His body crashed into the tangle of branches with a painful sound, the snapping and crackling as they struck out at him. His jaws snapped madly as he tried to grab onto something, anything that would keep him from being swept to his death.
Again he snapped his jaws but his teeth tore through them like paper, slicing them in half so that he continued going. However, his speed had slowed slightly due to being dragged through the branches and after a good few attempts his jaws finally fixed around something that kept him from going any further.
The river seemed to battle against him, the current smashing against him with an incredible force. His teeth hurt and his grip slipped but he continued to hold on, opening his eyes a little to try and get a look at his situation.
Where was he?
Where was Malcolm?
And how the hell was he going to get out of this situation?

Now the cold was getting to him too. He felt it like knives in his joints and in his ears. They were almost deafened from the cold and the sounds of roaring water. Hoarsely, he sputtered and pulled his head out of the water once more. A plume of water spread from his nose as he did, and in the mist he managed to see that Fluke had slowed. “Fluke!” He sputtered. “Just don’t let-“ Another wave, “-Go!”
If he could reach him, he might be able to pull them both to sure. He had the strength to do it- but with each second that he was in the water he knew it was fading as ice invaded his veins. Luckily- the water wasn’t wasting time in getting him to Fluke. Before he knew it, Malcolm was rocketing past Fluke- and he had to bite harshely upon a root that near snapped to stop the flow. The gush of water started to fight against him, and he struggled to hold on to the branches.
“Bite on to the rope- it’s around my neck! We’ll swim to the shore, but you can’t stop swimming.”

Perhaps if he'd had time to think, Fluke would have realised what a dangerous thing it was he was going to do and hesitated. However, time gave him no moment to think and as he released his jaws a small whine escaped from his throat.
For a moment the water threatened to swallow him but again luck helped swerve him towards his destination.
Within a second he was bumping against Malcolm's larger form and snapping his jaws firmly around the rope. He spoke nothing at all, his breath short and sparse enough as it was. He gave a weak nod to show that he understood, hissing water out from his mouth as he tried to turn towards the shore.
He was losing energy fast and already his legs were slowing, allowing his body to be sink lower in the water. Yet whilst physically Fluke was weak, mentally he was strong and he would survive as long as he possibly could.
