Coping after the Metaplot
--Anethae, Zasalamel, Prince, Duke--

Anethae tapped her fingertips against her knees, staring blankly at the room before her, the room that contained two anthropomorphic deer twins, one staring back at her, and the other flopped over his sibling, a sullen looking Drow kid, who looked much too tall to be a kid. Aside from the spotted twin, nobody was looking back at her, and aside from the spotted twin, nobody seemed to notice she was there. Of course, she had the distinct impression that the only reason the spotted one noticed her was because he was expecting some form of attention from her. She had a lot to say, but didn't know how to go about it...and why should she? Only one out of four could understand what she had to say, and coincidentally, that same one had seen the entire thing.

"So..." She said slowly to the thin air, growing impatient with the constant and rhythmatic tick...tick...tick of the nearby antique clock. Luckily for her, her sudden word caught the attention of the white twin, who stared at her with tired eyes. "I'm...I'm your Mother now, I guess." The doppleganger found her fingertips tapping along with the clock. "I'll do my best to care for you." She said rather formally, yet awkwardly. How ELSE was she going to do this? The twin lost interest, and instead curled back to nuzzle the Drow's stomach, and even the spotted one lowered his head with a yawn.

Babies. The good thing was, they probably wouldn't even remember Neveah when they grew up, as terrible as it sounded. The problem was the older boy, the one who would never forget her. Thae's aqua eyes turned to the boy, who was leaning down to rest his elbows on his knees around his little brother, his fingers twisting his blindfold mercilessly. He was the one who needed the help, and the one she had to worry about.

"Its not your fault, what happened." Thae was changing tactics, putting her focus on the Drow kid instead of the infants who more or less didn't care. "Jorath's fault, not yours...I believe that your Mother was happy he grabbed her instead of you, and I think she's happy to know you survived it." She said softly, slowly. Standing, she moved to sit near him, though she'd already clued into his fear of women. He needed someone near him, she figured. "I'm not Neveah, and I know to you, I'll never replace Neveah. I know that, and I don't expect you to even address me as 'Mom' or anything." She paused for a moment, knowing her words are probably hurting him. "All I ask, Zasalamel...is that you at least try to get along with me. I'm going to watch you and worry about you and help you andcare for you regardless of whether you like me or not...but it would still make things easier for the both of us if we both tried to find a common ground."

Zasalamel hadn't once looked at her since she called this meeting, and even now he didn't even glance at her. He was listening though, and though he was grudgingly doing so. He didn't like Thae, he believed that if she hadn't taken Neveah's soul, they could have saved her still. Though he never blamed her for Neveah's death, he blamed her from blocking her return to life. Part of him thought he could never find middle ground with her for that, but the other part of him grudgingly agreed to Thae's words.

"I can't say that I regret coming to life. I don't regret it, I've wanted life for a long time." Anethae interrupted his thoughts with her confession. "The only thing I do regret is that I caused you so much pain when I came to life." Reaching out, she rested a soft hand on his shoulder in a comforting gesture. "So, its my duty to try and ease your pain, first as a Guardian, and then as a friend." The doppleganger was careful with her words; she didn't use Mother for obvious reasons, and she chose friend to let him know she wasn't going to only do her duty as a guardian. Though she doubted that he would ever consider her a friend. "Do you understand, Zasalamel?"

"Siyo..." Zasalamel said quietly with a nod, though he still refused to look at her. To him, she looked too much like Neveah...and because of that, he knew that he might be able to convince himself that she was his Ilhar, that his Ilhar had never died. He couldn't do that. He couldn't pretend she hadn't died, that was wrong...and so, he didn't look at her, to prevent those denials from inevitably taking his mind over. If he believed Thae was his Ilhar, then his Ilhar would be both dead, and forgotten.

The new, yet old family fell into silence. "...Good. You can leave now, if you want...I just wanted to say that." Thae said eventually, breaking the silence. No sooner had she suggested it, the Drow excused himself, moving his tired brother onto the couch before standing and leaving towards his dark room in the attic.

Anethae could only watch him leave with sadness in her eyes. He was so very young...

Moving in
--Anethae and Zasalamel--

Anethae had been to this house before, she knew where everything was and she knew each inhabitant that lived in there. However, strangely enough, she did not know herself. Her "knowing" came from what was left of Neveah's soul within her. She'd experienced a part this house on her own on the night after she came to life...but that was about it. Her own personal knowledge of the Surugata house was the front entrance and living room. Everything else she thought she "knew" about the house wasn't her memories.

And, like everything else, it annoyed the hell out of her. She didn't WANT to know and remember things that she herself hadn't yet experienced. It made her feel like an idiot, always having something on the tip of her tongue yet unable to remember to get rid of that feeling.

However, today was the day where she could create her own experiences within this house, to know this house outside of the vague notions of deja vu! This was her chance to get rid of that "tip of the tongue" feeling once and for all.

Well, at least regarding the house and its occupants, anyway.

It had been Zasalamel's job to bring Anethae around the house, since Verwin was gone and his siblings were only babies. It was clear to anyone with eyes that he did not and would not appreciate this job in the least. He hated Anethae for the simple reason that, in his mind, she helped to kill his precious Ilhar. He partially understood his new Matron's point if view, but at the same time he didn't want to understand. His Ilhar was gone forever thanks to a multiple of In Betweeners, Anethae being one of them. Of course, he didn't blame her for the wounds...just for the whole soul hoarding bit.

Zasalamel's stance on Anethae was confused and mixed up, to say the least.

But regardless of his dislike for the Matron, he accepted his job with a grumbling sense of duty, and when Anethae came to the door, he let her in and allowed her to take off her shoes before wordlessly moving to do his job.

"Leeveng Roum." He said lamely once Anethae had stepped through the front door and followed after him. The Drow gave her only a moment or two to look around the simple room (though it was littered with baby toys) before moving again, through an open doorway that connected the living room to another room.

"Keetchen." The Drow explained in a single word, motioning to the house's kitchen area, complete with a kitchen table with four baby seats nearby, and three regular chairs. It fit the five members of the Surugata house and the two members in Verwin's tiny family. Like the living room, he gave his Matron a few moments to look around, before backing out of the room towards the living room, then down the hallway that passed in front of the doorway. As he went, he pointed out the rooms.

The first door on the right belonged to his twin brothers, Prince and Duke, and they shared that room with Verwin's unicorn child, Tyranna. On the left, only a little ways down, was the stairway to the attic, which he explained was where his room was. It had been Neveah's attempt to get him used to the surface world by putting his room in the attic instead of the basement. Moving along the hallway again, he pointed to the next door on the right, beside the baby's room, and called it the bathroom. Shortly after the bathroom, the hallway turned towards the left.

After following the hallway, he pointed to the closed door to the left, calling that the stairway to the unfinished basement. The door on the right he explained to be Verwin's room, and then, at the end of the hallway, he pointed to the closed door.

"Beelong tu Ilhar." He said quietly, looking at the door and never once glancing at Anethae. "Matron cahn muve tu roum ef Matron weeshes roum.." Really, he had no say in whether or not Thae took that room...he was only a male, after all.

"Thanks for the tour, Zasalamel." Thae said with a hum, still looking around and peering into whatever room she could. "Uhm...Would it upset you if I used your Mother's things? I don't have anything at all to my name, except for these clothes." She motioned to the tanktop and jeans she was wearing, and had been wearing since the incident in the In Between. Hell, these clothes didn't belong to her, either. They were doppled to match Neveah's. Zasalamel only looked at her, clearly having put a mask up to make him appear indifferent and uncaring.

"Ef wud mayk Matron hahpee." He said, not really answering her question. Excusing himself, he moved down the hallway and towards his room in the attic shortly after, claiming to have something to do.

"...Strange kid." Anethae said to herself with a little laugh. After watching the tall boy disappear, she moved foreward, and opened the door to Neveah's room.

--AGH HELP NOW--

Journal.

I'm at my wit's end.

Already.

I barely remember that I need to eat, nevermind the fact there are two infants who depend on me. How the HELL did people expect me to do this right off the bat?! They all hate me, thats it. They all must hate me. Its because I took Neveah's soul. Nobody has offered to help, nobody has offered anything! Would they not realize that hey, she might need some time to adjust?! Yanno, hundreds of years in the 'tween?! OF COURSE NOT.

Gaians are lousy, no-good people.

That Drow kid isn't helping.

Well, he's helping...but not in a way that makes me feel any better. He's awkward with the babies, he can't hold them properly and he fails hard at even feeding them without them crying. Sure, he makes my job with the twins harder than it should be, and sure he more than likely hates my guts...BUT AT LEAST HE'S TRYING TO HELP ME.

Speaking of the Drow kid...what the hell, seriously! He doesn't say a word to me on his own, I have to force him to talk to me. He won't look at me. He...just...AGH. I feel like I'm getting the silent treatment from an obnoxiously tall three year old!

Okay fine, he lost his Mother thanks to me.

But STILL. He doesn't even LASH OUT. I'm sure he's just a black skinned husk with perma-kicked-puppy eyes.

Okay, after stopping to breathe, I've calmed down and realized that I'm stupid. Of course he'd react this way, he's Drow. I've leeched off my fair share of Drow souls, what with them and their addiction to sacrifices. Drow men don't interact with infants, hence his horrible baby caring for skills. Of course, they're not supposed to have minds of their own unless it involves training, strategy, and war.

Thats probably why he doesn't know how to react to me.

Of course I'm not going to tell him to hit me or something, he's actually scary for a tall, silent kid...but I think I can do something a little better, give him something to distract himself.

I'm going to look for schools and martial arts places. That outta make him less of a black skinned husk with perma-kicked puppy eyes!

I'm so clever!

YOU. TRAIN. NOW.
--Anethae and Zasalamel--

Days after her journal entry, Anethae was running around the house, looking everywhere for some things, as well as the kid she had no choice but to call hers. Surely, her running around the house was entertaining, as the twins had quiet a great time giggling at her, everytime she passed them. When she found the item she'd been looking for, she put more work into finding the Drow kid. The doppleganger slid to a stop on the hardwood floor as the door to the attic opened, revealing the messy white-haired person she was looking for.

"YOU!" She cried out proudly, pointing at Zasalamel with one hand, her other resting on her hip. The poor kid only startled, staring at her with wide purple eyes. The stare was only momentary however, as he quickly averted his gaze. He still looked confused and surprised, however.

"Siyo, Matron?" Zah asked quietly, lightly closing the attic door behind him. "Es sumting needeng?" Somehow, he had the feeling he wasn't in trouble...but he'd never seen the Matron act like this to him.

"Yes, I need your OPINION on something!" Thae was grinning madly, placing both hands on her hips this time. "If I were to say, oh...that I had a way to get a certain someone into a martial arts studio..." She paused for dramatics, eyeing the kid. He was losing his resolve to avoid eye contact. In fact, he was starting to look hopeful, if not excited. "Of course, this certain someone would also have to take speech courses and general schooling at the same time..." Lifting a hand, she tapped her chin as if thinking theoretically. "Do you think this person would accept the offer?" The doppleganer stopped again, staring back at the hopeful purple eyes of the kid in front of her. After pressing her lips together, she placed her hands back onto her hips. "By the way, that certain someone is you, Zasalamel."

"Siyo, wud tayke!" He said excitedly, showing more emotion than she'd ever seen him express. Zasalamel even went as far as to give her a hug! Now that was the biggest surprise. Immediately feeling awkward, the doppleganger lightly pushed him away. "Wud treye muhch harhd!" The Drow said immediately after, hoping she wouldn't change her mind.

"Good good...Thats what I wanted to hear. Okay, I'll let you train...on the condition you attend the schooling." With that, Thae handed him the paper and brochure she had been holding, then turned away and moved towards the kitchen. After a few steps, she looked over her shoulder.

"By the way kid, you start tomorrow."

Her words were met with an excited whooping noise, followed shortly by footsteps back up into the attic. Thae could only laugh...progress had been made, and it'd been funny!

Training, School, and Good News!
--Hoolay!--

Zasalamel couldn't have been happier lately.

Well, he could have...but he was accepting his Ilhar's death now, as much as it hurt. However, that was another story.

His Matron, Anethae, had granted him the opportunity to train to his hearts content. His regime was a hard one, but it was the difficulty that he enjoyed more than anything. Despite his dislike of light, he forced himself to get up before eight in the morning. His classes began at ten in the morning, which he walked to rain or shine, sleet and snow. For four hours, he studied the common language from speaking to reading to writing. Once out of class, he wandered home for almost two hours of rest time; though he usually spent it practicing either his language lessons or his martial arts, usually after eating lunch, of course. His sessions at the academy started at three, and that was a much longer walk for him...so more often than not he jogged the entire way there. He had fifteen minutes to regroup before being put through the training from the academy for three hours, with two breaks of ten minutes to relax or get a drink. From there, he went home...or stayed later at the academy, or went to Yashima's house, or even just wandered Gaia until it was dark.

Weekends were different, of course. On weekends, he didn't leave the house unless it was to go outside to train, or go visit Yashima or occassionally attempt to visit Kishi. He still did four hours of language practice, and he still did at least three hours of training, however.

However, this time, he was walking home right after his training session. It had been over a month since this daily ritual started...and he'd made a great deal of progress. With one thing, at least. His speech was getting better, but it was a painfully slow process...but the thing he excelled at, his martial arts...he was gaining ground in it fast.

In fact, that was the reason he headed straight home! His Master informed him that it would be pointless to keep him in just martial arts any longer, and so he'd written a note to Anethae, explaining Zasalamel's quick mastery of the poses and stances of offensive and defensive moves, and how his dedication to the sport would do well for his martial arts career. However, more important to him than the praise for his skills he'd be bringing back to his Matron, was the suggestion his master had made. His master wanted to introduce him to weaponry on top of hand to hand combat.

Sure he was practically failing language, but he was excelling at the thing he thought most important...and that was always a good thing! He couldn't wait to get home and give his Matron the letter.

Part of him wondered if she would accept it.

When he got home however, he saw the house was deserted. No babbling twins, no Anethae...not even Verwin. His good mood was instantly hit with a little blow, but it was alright...it just meant he had to wait a bit for Matron's answer! Setting his note on the kitchen counter, he moved to his attic, where he saw a little note taped to the doorway.

The Note

Sorry, Zah! The brats need to go to the doctors. I'll be back as soon as I can!

-Thae

Tucking the note away after spending a good three minutes reading it, he headed up to his room to change, then to go outside and do some training in celebration.

yashi turn female. scared much...unused to female yashi, find scary. yashi afraid of me fearing, but will not. will never be fearing yashi. just...not much comfortable. will get over fearing, but is still much trying. yashi is much good with things. wear shirt to hide female body from me. female and or no female, yashi is yashi. be much startled and much scared...no fearing.

though much wonder at when yashi-male come back.

talked to kishi other day. she is sad for reason of alignment. made me think. told kishi evil stay with evil, evil back evil up, allies. make think from words...Ilhar die from me. not direct, but was me that wanting to go to headquarters. ilhar die in headquarter...was really fault of me, or fault of other? Thinking not. Ilhar die to protect, ilhar gave choice to protect. Am much sad Ilhar die...but ilhar chose, and so no fault of other, only fault of ilhar. kishi say other guardian die...is also not fault of us, is fault of guardian. guardian chose to keep child. could have let child die...but did not. guardian keep child living, and so is fault of guardian if die. is much nice to place blame on things, but is as peoples say 'scape goat'. must live and take what path give to you.

i practice with martial arts. if get hurt, is fault of me and no fault of other. got hurt for paying not much attention. got hurt then lesson learn. will not get hurt same way. guardian take child for raising. if child hurt guardian, then is definate child fault, and child needing punishing...but is ultimate fault of guardian for raising child that think of striking guardian. if child not hurt guardian but from other because of child...is not fault of child, is fault of other and fault of guardian.

if child hurt guardian, is fault of child. never hurt ilhar, so ilhar death no fault of me. other guardian die for other child, is not fault of child. much people in world die and much people in world hurt. is not fault of us, is thing that happen. kishi say we have second chance, that we should not for reason of evil. met much children and met much guardian figure...hear ilhar speak of child heritage and of child race.

only evil race that have crossed are succubus...and drow. kishi and self are evil. have not met all, but out of child-figure that have met and have knowing about, is only kishi and self that are true evil in race. kishi is good girl, believe i am good boy at this time. is not fault of us that guardian dies...unless it is child that kill guardian in direct.
