I play tenor sax.. Well, actually, I play flute, but I learned tenor over the summer! So I joined jazz band. It rocks. It's given me a new take on all music!
I don't know...maybe I was bored with flute?... I'm just so excited about it! I gotta get a lesson on my jazz band music.
We're playing: Feeling the Funk Dos Gatos Bailando C-Jam Blues and...something else. I can't remember! Is that sad if you can only remember what you're playing for concert band?
Xx

Tubariffic Alas there is no jazz tuba -emo- Yes there is. Check out a song called, ah what is it again... "Tastes Like Chicken". There's a Tuba part in it. The last festival we went to we saw a Tuba player playing in that piece.

If you play tuba and want to play jazz, learn bass trombone, there's a lot of jazz that have awesome bass-bone parts. Unfortunately, our Jazz band dissolves every year because our director is too busy with symphonic orchestra.

OH. MAN.
We just got this AWESOME song in jazz band. I'm sure all you jazz nuts have heard of it, it's by Dizzy Gillespie and it's called Salt Peanuts. It's at like 250 to the quarter note and I have an awesome solo and omg it's SOOO COOL. heart

I play trombone in jazz band... I suck! crying And next year's most probable candidate for section leader has threatened me with more parts. even though I probably won't play loud enough to do them justice. I have no clue how you people play jazz! It's so hard!

Hi guys! I've been looking a lot into improvising lately and my mom found this great book called Building a Jazz Vocabulary. It shows you all the basics of improv-ing (though it doesn't explain them for beginners, really; I had to ask one of my directors to explain some stuff >_>) and it's totally awesome. Here's a link if you're interested: http://www.amazon.com/Building-Jazz-Vocabulary-Mike-Steinel/dp/0793521610

Fallaryn I play the french horn in jazz. Have been doing so for the past two years, and I helped the jazz band get golds and silvers from last year and the year before from different performances and stuff. But this year I have to transpose the music myself from the trombone music. Yes, I play the trombone music -- there's only one other trombone in jazz band, and then there's four trumpets, two alto saxes, and three tenor saxes (I can't keep track of who's in the percussion section). I fear doing jazz solos. ;_; jazz horn... i've heard OF it... but not it ever... how's it like?
