"Approximately. I slept through most of it, t' be 'onest." How he had managed that, he wasn't sure. He certainly wouldn't be sleeping through this one unless the vicodin was a good deal stronger than he expected it to be. For the last change, most of the differences had appeared in a matter of minutes, while his leg was the only thing that had taken a while to change. During this change, the pain was much more widespread...and, aside from the appearance of further scales, he hadn't noticed any visible changes. That was not a good sign.
He was somewhat surprised when Sid elected to stick around. Thom wasn't quite feeling up to conversation, but any distraction from the pain of the change was welcome. "This one...doesn't seem t' be goin' any faster," he choked out between throbs from his leg.

"That really sucks..." Sid said awkwardly. He had no idea what to say to someone in such a situaton. Hell, it'd be much easier if it went quickly, then he could just stare in horror and slip away as soon as it was over.
"Is it becase of, y'know, being a snake, you think?" He hoped it was, and in the next moment, as he thought of how long it took the things to digest stuff, he convinced himself it had too be. It was bad enough knowing changes could kill them, but last for days? He was sorely tempted to reach into his bag for the vodka.

"It does," Thom replied, laughing more genuinely. For the time, he had resigned himself. It was easy at this point to say 'just grin and bear it'. Undoubtably he would be speaking differently before long, but for now the pain was tolerable as long as he didn't focus on it, save perhaps for the digging sensation at the bottom of his foot... but he did his best to pretend it wasn't happening, especially when one check after another revealed no such hole. "I don't know. Cassidy didn't mention anythin' about lengthy chan--ah, bugger--damn, 'scuse. Doesn't mean she didn't deal with them too."

"Cassidy?" Once again Sid was left combing through his fragment memory to try and recall if he'd ever met a Cassidy on the island, or any girl whose name started with C. He really needed to get a rolodex or something, then maybe he could put names to the faces and vague titles he attached to people. "Who's she?"
Anything to keep the conversaton moving... It was that or just stare, but even glancing too long at the slow shifting was enough to make Sid's stomach turn.

"Python," he offered shortly as means of an explanation. How else did one explain Cassidy? He hadn't know her when she was still recognizable as human. She had already reached her thrid change before they had met, and that had been startling enough. Her third change had left her inhuman, unblinking, slithering with only useless stubs for legs.
Thom's blood ran cold at the thought, and he made a second attempt to rise to his feet, but the increased pressure on his leg sent a fresh stab of agony running up the bone. He shouted aloud before he could prevent himself, gritting his teeth against it a split second later and sinking back into his original position. Stupid idea. Stupid idea. Breath somewhat labored, he gave himself a moment to gather his thoughts before latching onto the conversation once more, pointedly avoiding looking near his right foot. "One of...th' first 'ere, I believe. Nice girl. Probably...completely changed by now."

Sid reflexively reached a hand out to try and steady Thom once he cried out, only to end up holding it out uselessly as he couldn't go so far as to touch him. He almost offered up the fact that alcohol, despite what the warning labels told you, did wonders when it came to amplifying the affects of painkillers. Or did painkillers amplify the effects of alcohol? Either way, the lizard girl quietly standing by didn't look like the sort to approve of that sort of medication, even if she hadn't been there to see him slip Thom the pill.
"I'll keep an eye out for her then..." Sid said. "Kinda surreal, how much things... Uh... Yeah..."
He desperately searched for a new topic. "Hey, you much of a fan of the Coen Brothers? Y'know, Fargo and all that?"
Now this was surreal, trying to talk about movies with a guy gradually becoming more snake like.

He lifted a hand slightly as a sign that didn't need any help, but, momentarily drained by the shock and consequential rush of endorphins to his leg, he did recline back against the tree, head lolling back against the bark. "Tell 'er I say 'ello, if you see 'er." Tell her that he knew exactly how she feeled, and that he was sorry she had to endure it because he damn well wasn't enjoying it, and that he hoped she wouldn't scream and run away at the sight of him.
His headache had diminished somewhat thanks to the painkillers, and the constant pulsing of his left leg and tail seemed farther away. The right leg seemed to be fading towards the same, and likely would have been much more tolerable if he hadn't been stupid enough to try walking again. He was just stuck outdoors for the duration of his change, apparently. "Never been much f'...movies," he mumbled apologetically, cocking his head towards Sid. "But I 'ave 'eard of it. What's it...about? Any good?"

"They sound kinda lame if you just summarize them," Sid said. "You have to, like, experience it. Fargo takes place in North Dakota. This car salesman hires these two sleezy hitmen to kill his wife, but it all goes horribly wrong, and there's this pregnant cop with this horribly thick northern accent on the case and... Yeah, like I said, it sounds weird when you try and summarize it...
Tired of holding the bag, he slung it back over his shoulder. The strap would give him something to pick at. "Is the pill helping any?"

Natsumi had settled into a sit, the traditional Japanese style of sitting that might make anyone else's legs fall asleep, simply listening as the two spoke. She'd check behind them every now and then, or off to the side, wherever the wind seemed to blow past.
She was thankful for Sid, actually, he seemed to be helping Thom get distracted, and that seemed to be what Thom liked to do. She generally agreed... But at the moment, she would have found herself short on conversation. She was still spent from trying to deal with not breakign newt's heart... Which failed, she thought... But atleast it wasn't too bad. he hadn't said anythign before she left, so that was a plus, right? Little did she know that was just Newt being heartbroken. But she could live in ignorence for the moment.
So she was listning, talk of that Cassidy girl she hadn't met, then thom tried to stand, instinctivly she shifted like Sid did, but all seemed to settle down so she returned to silence. It was rather amusing they thought she might protest, granted she would have protested at any other time... But as the circumstances were, she would have been wondering where all that stuff was when she was in labor. Okay not really, but she was still too concerned about Thom to care about morals. But as the case was, she was none the wiser. Then some weird talk about killing and whatnots. She offered Sid a small smile, then glanced to Thom at the next question. She felt like she needed to say something, but nothing was coming, which left her looking a tad awkward.

It didn't sound 'lame' so much as underexplained, which meant that it just about failed to catch Thom's attention at all. He had never been terribly interested in television in general, and was a bit too preoccupied with his change at present to care about the details of a movie he would probably never watch, even if he was feeling a touch better for the vicodin. However, that did not mean he hadn't heard, and, when asked about the medication, he gave a stiff nod before steering the conversation back towards the movie. "I curious," he began, voice indicating that the other subject was best avoided, "What made you think of that movie right now?

"No reason," Sid said with a shrug. "It was, like, the first thing that popped in my head is all. We can move on to the weather if you like. I guess this is what counts as winter in the tropics... Or is it the caribbean?" He shook his head, aware he was babbling but not caring enough to stop himself. "Never was good with geography. Or math. Or science. Hey, there's English... Which I ******** up all the time anyway."
Realizing he probably wasn't helping (more like assuming), Sid nodded back towards his duplex. "I should probably just... go... yeah."
Before either of them could say anything, he waved and started walking. He tried to keep from breaking into a run... He wasn't running away, he was just making a tactical retreat. Or something. Yeah, that was it.
