The coyote edged away from Richard as he lashed out, not even commenting on his aggressive behaviour, totally understanding. He shook his head "If you believe you are a monster, you'll become one body and mind. That doesn't change the fact that Sabin is clearly off his rocker. It was him you spoke to, right?"
He maintained a primarily submissive posture, not wanting to provoke another outburst.

Richard sniffed hard and blinked back tears. He brought his smarting hand to his lips and bit on his knuckle. He sucked on it for a bit, trying to get a hold of himself emotionally before replying. The tip of his tail curled nerviously.
Eventually he lowered his hands into his lap instead staring at the small hands which he flexed experimentally.
"Its Sabin's serum, but Moreau selected it." His voice was steadier now, calm. "A cat with with six legs and two tentacles. They call it a misplacer beast or something." Oh and there was another addition that Richard really didn't want to talk about. He'd deny it from dusk til dawn but there was no doubt that something was happening down there. It was Richard's very own 800 pound gorilla on his back.

For once Pyroth was actually glad he was a canine, he felt far more unassuming than he would have under normal circumstances, not actually bothered to walk over and sit down right near Richard, when you weren't human you could ignore human personal space boundaries. He peered over to get a better look at the changes, glad that it was over and now more interested in seeing what damage had been done.
The first thing that struck him, seeing with his nose to the extent that he did was an odd shift in Richard's scent. Not just the usual odd feline and other jumble of smells that surrounded him, they were as different as chalk and cheese to the other underlying scent that was always there. One that generally identified people. Richard definitely smelled less masculine than before, whatever that meant, he didn't pry just yet.
"Misplacer beast? Never heard of it before. Probably something made up." he snorted. "Either way, just making it through a transformation like that is a major feat in itself, I've seen transformations where the person got stuck and had to get carted off to the lab."
He sighed, it was a small comfort.
"My usual solution to a transformation like that is to go out and get sloshed, kind of like the way people go out and get smashed after a funeral." he laughed bitterly "Don't suppose you fancy a drink?"

Richard shook his head. The last thing he needed now was alcohol. He felt out of control, his emotions a turbulent mix of anger and helplessness. At Pyroth's mention of a funeral, he suddenly had a memory flash of his dream last night. It had been his funeral, was Richard himself dying? Has he slowly being replaced?
He looked back at Pyroth, "I'm still myself right?" He sounded unsure. It was true right he probe his mind. He didn't feel as if he was thinking differently right? There was no alarm going off in his head telling him Pyroth was a rival carnivore. "I don't feel insane yet."
Sighing, leaned over and started unlacing his ruined shoes. The feet they contained were horribly cramped.

Pyroth nodded "Seems that way to me, as long as you are able to talk and understand me then I'd say you are still you." The question of identity and how normal you were was one that Pyroth wrestled with on a regular basis and he hardly understood that himself. "And you never feel the instinct really, you just start doing things that feel perfectly normal but make other people blink and edge away or make your inner self cringe when you take a few steps back from your thoughts."
"I'm just going to class you as good old Richard until you start trying to hunt me. Possibly even then."

Richard frowned as he attempted to disentangle his shoes from his feet. "Sabin mentioned that the felines were... eccentric. Not sure exactly what he meant by that." Probably were all batshit insane with his luck. Richard seemed to get a grip on himself but there was still a slight tremble in his voice.
"Hunt you?" The idea seemed outlandish. "My prototype was a housecat according to the big hat." Pyroth was rather scrawny looking anyway.
Richard started to pull himself to his feet. Wincing as his entire body protested againist movement.

Pyroth nodded "I wouldn't take anything Sabin says at face value, he could just be trying to mess you up in the head with seeds of doubt."
He did look mildly concerned at the mention of a housecat. "I used to know someone who kept housecats and they'd chase anything the moment they got outside. Felines are all the same, and you forget, you might have housecat in you but you won't be getting smaller. I mean, coyotes in the wild could never hunt the size of prey I do, it's all down to the size. So yeah, be wary, every housecat is a tiger in it's own mind."

"Hmpf." Richard grunted. Most housecats he had known were lazy animals that got underfoot and whined constantly.
As he rose something within his bowels shifted. His tail went rigid and he looked around with a desperated look in his eyes. He had no idea where he was, no duplexes anywhere. "Where am I?"
Nope, no time for that. He flushed crimson. "I uh be right back!" In a surprising display of speed Richard dashed behind the nearest tree that would shield him from Pyroth's eyes.

Pyroth had first hand experience of the side effects of a transformation, so simply got to his feet and padded a distance away, his back to Richard to give him his privacy. He smirked, wholly indifferent to something that only a few months ago would have made him incredibly passively embarrased.
"At least that's a good gauge that your intestines are settling down again." he chuckled, his voice slightly louder in order to be heard from way over there.

Richard answered only with grunts, groans and far more disgusting sounds for several minutes.
Afterwards there was the sound of fabric being torn. Eventually he emerged with his shirt torn unevenly below the chest. It servered to emphanise of the size of his chest compared to his stomach, which now only sported a minor pot belly. He had taken the oppertunity to inspect himself and knew that even cats weren't that small. He had his arms crossed in front of his chest, feeling very self conisious.
Was there anything that the labs couldn't change? Couldn't take away?

Pyroth simply sat aside and waited until Richard returned, his tail flicking behind him. When he did return Pyroth glanced over, noticing once again the distinctly feminine hints he might have missed before. He really didn't want to say anything, really figured he out to keep his mouth shut but it had to be asked.
"So...anything else seem odd other than the tranformation? Because..the scents suggest it.."

Richard squeezed his eyes shut and looked away. Later comments would likely bring denial, anger but he was utterly drained of his usual fire. "Nothing is constant it seems... Nothing at all." The tail drooped, still.

Pyroth didn't delve any further, not wanting to pry into something that even Richard wasn't sure about. He simply nodded understandingly, somewhat shaken by just the sight of the usually slightly imposing and strong willed man so broken by what was happening to him.
He got to his feet again, shaking his fur and stretching his paws. "Are you heading back to the village? If you are I can show you the way or at least give you some company on the way back, I need to go back and get a drink of some clean tap water, I'm sick of drinking out of the lake, it always makes me ill."
He smiled more warmly than usual "Of course, if you'd rather hang about out here till you get used to the changes then that doesn't make much difference to me, I might consider this my territory but I'd also consider you a friend and pretty damn welcome here."

Richard did need to go back. He felt disgusting and exposed out here in the jungle. There was that talk of territory again, he couldn't help thinking of Billy's rock and his angry shouts about he'd understand one day. He shuddered.
"I suspect I'll have to get used to this no matter where I am." He mentally explored his body, his tail twitched, his tiny hands opened and closed. Totally foreign and alien sensations, parts of his body that simply weren't there before. He opened his eyes and looked at Pyroth, something was different there too, but he couldn't place his finger on it. "Well lets head back then. I apreciate the company." He smiled weakly. Richard at least, was still a social animal.

The coyote got to his feet and started off into the familiar trees, sticking to the easily traversable terrain rather than the usual faster but more awkward and tight paths that he himself usually took. He himself was an animal that was primarily social, segregating himself out here was a harsh step but one he took for his own sake. Perhaps someday he'd have a pack of fellow canines to run with but the chances of that looked slim."You always do get used to it eventually, there's no other choice."
He didn't speak aloud the mental addition to that sentence that as soon as you got used to it, they make it worse.
"If any of the fully human ones in the village see me when we get there, I'm just a lost coyote, right? I can't be bothered explaining what went wrong with my serum and freaking anyone else out."
