The daughter
Shall she be yours as well?

"Daughter?..." Veshengo turned towards his banya and squinted his eyes. "I...have no child...no wife..." Turning his back to the bird, he placed his arm against a tree and leaned his head against it. Unless...He can't mean... Veshengo thought back to previous words that his banya had spoken.

Lest you let the drops evaporate?
Have you no use for gifts?
Love- understanding...
How different could they be?

He stood up and began to pace a bit, kicking rocks that were in his path. Is this bird telling me what I think it is? Are my feelings for her more then lust, but actually assigned by the meij? Am I to father her child? Is that the real reason I was sent to find this caravan?... He felt a right fool for believing in what the bird was saying, but being who he was, he couldn't ignore what the meij had in store for him. "I need to tell her how I feel...She needs to know that I love her!"

Veshengo went into his wagon, grabbing vial of serum that he was given when he joined the caravan. Tucking it into his pocket, he made his way swiftly toward the other wagons, calling out the name of the woman his heart yearned for, "Marissa! Marissa!"

[Owh deah. XP]

Caroline makes a soft clucking noise with her tongue. "Don't fret yourself, Lorelei," she says in her warm, comfortable burr. "It isnae too late yet to see Valelldia. In the glamour's favor, though," she says hesitantly, "Ye won't be recognized, love. By the by," she says as if it's an afterthought. Which it isn't. "Why d'ye need to hide that lovely face? What's at yon wee port that's got you all atwitch?"

Irina couldn't help but gasp as Lorelei dropped her hood to reveal her new look...The sores looked painful, but she was definitely unrecognizable. If the woman didn't want to be noticed, she surely wouldn't be. Irina didn't know her well enough to butt into the conversation, but she listened for the reply from Lorelei. She had the same question as Caroline.

Before she could respond, Irina heard a shout from over a slight rise in the road. Running toward them was a man--she'd never met him personally, but she knew he was named Veshengo. She glanced his direction curiously, getting a better grasp on what he was shouting. Marissa...

"Because," Lorelei started, quietly, voice wavering with barely restrained sadness and fear, "if my parents were to see me... if anybody who knows me were to see me...

"I fear it would bring trouble upon the whole caravan." She tugged at one of her blonde curls, clearly upset. "At the very least, I would have been taken back to my family. At the worst... you all might have been imprisoned for 'kidnapping' me."

Another pause.

"And.. I'm not sure if this is a glamour. Glamours are only illusions. This..." She pointed to her face. "This hurts. I'm afraid it may be permanent."

"Not to worry, love," says Caroline comfortingly. "Naught's for certain but death and taxes." She smiles. "Valelldia may know of a way to reverse it. Until then, if it's so important that ye hide your face, perhaps it's for good that it's permanent. A glamour may fade at a most inconvenient time," she suggests. "Come, let's find ye some salve for those sores."

Heather just listened, feeling ever so sorry for Lorelei. She didn't say much and even though she wasn't the most pleasant thing to look at, she was still a friend to Heather and Amkia, she would be no matter what she looked like.

She walked over to Lor and smiled. "Caroline is right, Val may know of something, either way you are still family to us, we can all help keep you hidden, if that is what you want." She smiled at Lor, feeling bad about herself, she had kept herself hidden because of worries, but she had nothing to worry about, not really.

"I shouldn't have to hide with a face like this," she said, sorrowfully, quirking a wry smile. "I can step foot back home without fear now, I suppose.

"But thank you, both of you. I'll go see Valelldia as soon as possible, I promise. For now..."

She fixed Caroline with a thankful gaze. "For now, salve sounds very good."

Caroline smiles softly and swishes back to her wagon. She pokes around in it, looking for the salve she knows she has somewhere. "Ro, d'ye know where the salve is?" she asks her daughter, whose hording tendancies gave her the ability to know where everything is in the wagon at all times. "Thank ye, dear," she says when Rojiza pulls it out and hands it to her.
Caroline brandishes it as she steps back out of the wagon, smiling a bit goofily, trying to lighten the mood. She offers it to Lor. "Can ye do this on your own, or would ye like some help?"

"I think I can take care of it myself, thank you." Lorelei managed another smile, taking the jar. "You originally came out to talk about fortunes, did you not? Aside from what prompted me to do this to myself, I received a little bit more...

"Maybe it would be best to return to the group, and I'll apply this later?" Taking the initiative, she reflexively pulled up her hood again and began heading back to everybody else.

Marissa turned her head, hearing her name. She spots Vesh and blushes, turning her head away. She still doesn't know a thing about this man...and yet he hails her so... Understandably, she is nervous. She decides to let him come to her.

Besides, they had fortunes to share. Marissa begins. "Sisters, Aryel gave me a strange fortune. She has told me that Kale will be saved, for which I am immensly grateful. But she also said that he will be very different. I find this troubling. And she mentioned a girl...who will take attention...and sea mountains quaking...and hearts breaking. These last bits, I hardly understand."

Veshengo soon spotted Marissa, ceasing to call her name. Her head turned and his heart filled with joy only to sink again when she looked away again. Biting his lip, he jogged on to join the women that were standing around. The mood amongst the group made him feel uneasy, slowly forgetting his main reason for coming to find Marissa. Something isn't right...their birds must have spoken as well. He stood two paces to the left of them as they divulged their fortunes, not speaking of his own.

Gwynna clucked sympathetically at the sight of the sores Lorelei sported, but she hung back as Caroline seemed to have the situation under control.

"Not too reassuring then," she murmured in response to Marissa. "Except for your son getting better, of course." Gwynna smiled slightly, bouncing Nusa on her hip. So far her own little daughter had been kept safe throughout the caravan's travels, but the gypsy worried all the same.

Caroline rejoins the group of gypsies. "What've your Banyas said?" she asks the general vicinity. "Mayhap between the lot of us we can figure something out."

Heather had headed back to the group and was listening, "My bird spoke names I don't recall though I wish to talk to Val about them and something about six sisters, its the only way to save one of my children." She shrugged, she really wanted to talk to Val about it.

"How about anyone else? Did anyone have a bird that spoke good words and not sad ones?" She could hope, though it seemed Banya birds were rather depressing creatures.

Veshengo nodded to himself and stepped forward, coughing into his hand to try and gain the women's attention in his direction. "My bird also spoke...it spoke of a daughter. But...Pani did not go into detail..." His shoulder slumped a bit and he looked around at the others, pausing a bit longer on Marissa's face.
