Hadrian felt some mischief rising, and felt very content to blame Marc for that: he hadn't had a humor streak like this until he met the man. So he'd blame him for it later, once he finally figured out that the mage wasn't mad at him.
...or when he couldn't keep a straight face, anyway.
And he felt even more amused as Marc complimented him; ahh, here it began.
When Haki walked over, the mage seized the chance, and picked the girl up; she likely would have wanted to be picked up soon anyway, as she was a very tactile toddler.
"Toddlers are very impressionable, Marc."
His tone was serious, his expression was grumpy - but if his lover paid close attention, he might be able to spot some mischief in his eyes. A bit of playfulness.
He never was very good at keeping emotions from his eyes.

Marc paused, hesitating as he stared at Hadrian. "Well then, she's traumatized anyways with half the things we do in front of her." his tone was playful-- animals were like that, weren't they? Trying to make up for bad behavior by being cute.
Or perverted. Which was Marc's idea of being cute.
Tilting his head and hearing the voice, he grinned. "Besides, this is why we make good parents. I teach her all the bad stuff, and you reteach her all the good stuff."
See? Compliments. And the whole teamwork bang too.
Bang.
Hmmm.
He caught the glint, kind of. Except, Marc was busy focusing on the word bang was a verb to really understand.

Hadrian was having to fight down laughter at Marc's reaction...this was why he loved teasing Marc, even if he didn't get the opportunity to do so very often; the man reacted so entertainingly.
And he wouldn't tell him this (wouldn't want Marc's ego to get any bigger, of course), but he really was adorable when he acted like that. It was so much fun, playing with Marc...
And no, not like that, perverts. Or well, it was fun, but he didn't mean it like that.
Realizing that he was getting into an argument with his own mind, the mage quickly stalled that train of thought and continued down his happy path.
Resting Haki against himself, Hadrian made the shift from 'obvious' anger, to allowing some of playfulness to come through in his voice, next. He liked teasing Marc, but he didn't want to make the man actually feel bad about it.
"See her face? She looks so traumatized by it, doesn't she," he looked at Haki himself then, his tone becoming clearly more mischievous as he continued - speaking to her, this time.
"Do you feel traumatized, sweetheart?"

Ooh, Haki loved it when that word was directed at her. Looking up and beaming, she nodded her head. Sweetheart! You could attach anything you wanted with that word.
Well. Your highness. Allmighty. God. Those were better, but she hadn't heard those yet, and so didn't understand the true significence. No, let the little sweet phrases do for now. Wouldn't want to give a toddler a power trip.
"Swehart!" she cooed. Look, maybe this whole mommy business was actually a good thing. It let to such nice things being said.
It took a while for Marc to realize, and when he did, he smirked. "It's a gorgeous face, nothing traumatized about it."
Ooooh. Haki knew THAT word too. It was nice. This was nice.
"Mommy!" she cooed, deciding it was time she chipped something into the conversation too.
Marc paused. Alright. Not the best word to throw in, but he'd make do with it. "See? She loves it."

Hadrian had no intention of calling Haki the sorts of things to send her on a power trip - he was just having some fun with endearments. And she seemed to like it, so it was likely to be a reocurring thing...at least when he was teasing Marc.
"You know, she's so fond of mommy, maybe she should find a new nickname for you, too?"
Technically she was already calling him daddy. But surely she'd be open to calling him something else, just once...
Taking advantage of the fact that he was holding Haki, and therefore Marc wouldn't be able to hear what he said, he whispered something to the little girl - and hoped she would comply.
"Call daddy, grandpa? Just this once, sweetheart."
He knew how to coax her, of course. The mage didn't feel ashamed at all, using Haki as a prop for their teasing each other; she certainly seemed to be enjoying it.

Oooh, look at that word again! Haki beamed at Marc, nodding her head and waving her hands and cooed. "Grampa!"
Marc blanched.
Not necessarily because of his age, of course. He was very secure in knowing that he would enter the older years as the type of man people would still want to get with. (Sure...sure...) No, it was more likely because of the thought of a Haki lookalike calling him grampa. The thought of his little Haki having children, having little Hakis and...
"You're still mommy." he managed.

Wrinkling his nose at Marc, Hadrian just shook his head at him and spoke with a tone that was filled with resigned amusement.
"I'll forever hold it over your head."
Of course, just because he accepted this, didn't mean he wouldn't be embaressed if Haki called him this in front of other people...and that he wouldn't be trying some nice little bribes to get her to stop calling him Mommy.
Setting Haki back down, Hadrian moved to take the plates and glasses to the table - Marc had the food, so he'd leave that to him.
"Let's eat then, hm?"

Marc grinned. So that was over and done with-- thank goodness! Deciding that maybe the whole mommy thing would only be funny if other people were around (maybe he would invite that mage woman over for dinner one night...), he dropped it.
Kind of.
"Haki's missed spending time with you." Not that Hadrian didn't come around-- Marc was used to the mage now, used to his work habits... kind of. And he wanted more.
Alright. Marc was a spoilt lover.
So what?

"Ahhh...well, I try to come up here as much as I can."
Hadrian rarely slept in his own apartment anymore. But...well, that wasn't exactly spending time with Haki; just her father. Maybe he should try bringing some work and just spending the whole day here? If he worked in the dining room, Haki could visit him...
"Maybe we could do a...family day? Take Haki with us and go to an amusement park or something."
He'd never been to one, now that he thought of it - but that was what people did with their kids, wasn't it?
The idea of working here wasn't broached, because he wanted to think more on it; he didn't want Marc liking the idea and pushing for that when he wasn't even sure he could do that, yet.

Marc would have broached it. That is, he was going to suggest bringing something in to add another office-- or sharing his. Except the idea of a family day distracted him silly.
...
Alright. The idea of an amusement park and Hadrian, distracted him silly. Haki had to be included because otherwise he wasn't sure Hadrian would agree to a plan like that.
"Like that" equaling whatever sick and perverted idea Marc would eventually come up with.
"You know, Haki would probably like that. Wouldn't you like that?" he aimed the question at his daughter.
And Haki being Marc's daughter, was smart enough to pick up on the silent message.
"Haki!"

One would think Hadrian would begin to realize when Marc had perverted thoughts flowing through his head - but no, he still didn't recognize that glint in the other mans eyes. At least, he couldn't recognize it when he wasn't specifically looking for it. On those occassions, he knew what to look for...
But right now, he was unknowing of the mischief being planned by his lover, and the communication between father and daughter.
"I'm afraid I haven't ever actually been to an amusement park, so you'll have to find a good one - I wouldn't know what to look for."
Smiling at Haki, Hadrian asked his next question of her - maybe, if she had a favorite, they wouldn't need to go searching for a good park.
"Have you ever been to one, Haki?"

Haki turned to Marc as if he had the answer-- or more correctly, as if she was waiting to see which answer would gain her most points with her living credit card.
"Yes, she has." he answered for her, and she beamed, nodding her had. Oh, yes! The big long word. Amooseepa. With candy and gigantic fluffy people that you could take photos with.
Of course she'd been there before. It was like a miniature Haki kingdom. Without the crown.
"But I'm sure she'd love to go again. Whenever you make the time, of course." he added. Because Marc, if he was nothing else, was very smart.
At certain things.
"It'll be a family outing. What do you think about that?" he grinned. "Daddy, mommy, and baby."

Rolling his eyes at Marc's humour, Hadrian just gave a rueful smile. Daddy, mommy, baby...of course, he had to bring that back in. He had a feeling he wouldn't escape this joke easily - and while he didn't mind it in privacy, he had a feeling he'd be turning beat red if anyone else heard this.
"I'll just pretend I missed that second word, there..."
"But asides from that...I should be able to make time some time this week - I can just stay late at work a couple nights, so that I don't get too far behind."
Really, three quarters of what he did was wrangling with financial issues. It practically cost a few thousand just to keep the lights in the lab building on - much less the electrical charge for keeping the computers running for the Souls, and all the energy output in all the apartments...
It was enough to give him a headache, some days; other days, he just shoved the bills aside and worked on the rest of his paperwork. There was a surprisingly large amount of paperwork for creating new 'lives'...
Who'd have ever thought there'd be a tax on creating life forms that weren't born from someone?

"Why don't you just hire more people to help you out?" was there a little bit of a whine in his voice? Perhaps-- but only a little one. He liked spending time with Hadrian, and while he also liked the hard working aspect of the man, sometimes the work seemed to overwhelm it's own quota.
That is, Marc believed there were quotas. Work was allowed 20% of Hadrian's time, and Haki 20%. The other 60% was... well.
That much was obvious.
"Haki's classes can be arranged." not that the girl would mind. In fact, she would probably be delighted to know that classes would be cancelled for a trip out with her mommy. "And my work is..."
Well. For a brief second, it occured to Marc that maybe he should at least pretend to be busy.
But the thought left as soon as it arrived.
"manageable."

"That would mean even more paperwork..."
And could they afford to hire workers? Hadrian had to admit, he wasn't entirely certain of how much people were paid for such work, here. Ahneta would most likely know, but he didn't have much contact with people outside the compound.
He'd have to look into it.
Hadrian, as much as he was overworked, did enjoy it...or at least, he enjoyed doing a good job at whatever he set out to do. And the sad result was that the 'quotias', though he didn't think of them like that, were tipped heavily in work's favor.
Haki likely have 20%...Work was most probably 50%, and then Marc came in with 30% - which he was embaressed to admit that. His preferences for time were more along the lines of what Marc would have preferred, but he wasn't someone who could walk away from a job half-finished.
"How about...in two days, then?"
The mage sat at the table then, since they'd moved all the food and plates there already.
