The young Aerandir's face was beaming, as he and his brother made their way to the Center, his guardian not with them as she lay curled up under the blankets sleeping at home. How one could sleep so much, well that was not to be sure, but she certainly slept a lot, especially during winter.
"Tell me again why I have to come with you?" came the older boy's sudden remark, as he folded his arms, slowly walking behind his short little brother. Taranis could have gone out by himself, he was sure and what with Yakobi sleeping, well he wouldn't have gotten into any trouble as she wouldn't have known. It was so simple, yet here he was, being forced to follow the little kid around.
"Becaaaaaause." Taranis huffed, turning around and walking backwards, so that he could talk with his brother. Kaigan was always complaining, he didn't understand it. Swiftly turning back around so that he would not crash into anything, the boy spotted the notice board. His blood red eyes widened, as something on it caught his eye. It was some strange board of sorts, something he had never seen before. "Oi!" he shouted, pointing at it so Kaigan would know what he was refering to."What's that?"
"That's an advent calendar or something." the older boy said dryly, an unimpressed look upon his face.
Taranis smiled, as he quickly ran over to it. It was so cool! Standing upon his toes, he tapped a door looking square labeled '12'. It was then that it had opened. The boy's eyes widened. He hadn't tapped it that hard! It was so bizare!
Gently he took a step back, to look at it, some other of the 'doors' were open as well, but he hadn't ment to open the '12' one. Oh bother. Now how was he going to fix it?

Stretching out her wings with a yawn, Rosette made her way through the Centre. Her project was almost finished, hopefully she'd make it in time for Kissmas. She wasn't sure exactly what Kissmas entailed, but it involved giving. And she knew exactly what Tsu would like for Kissmas.
She was just wondering whether Kissmas involved actual Kisses, when she happened to look up, and there on the wall was an intriguing-looking board. It had pictures on it, mostly of Aerandir she didn't recognise... though... Was that a picture of Tsu?! And was that one herself? She'd never seen herself as a gryphon, but Keeo had shown her pictures. Hmm...
Evermore curious, Rosie reached up. The way she understood it, you could open the numbered door on that day of the month. She wasn't sure what day of the month it was, but the number 13 was the smallest on the board. Lightly she brushed the cardboard with a finger, instantly jumping back as the little door swung open.
She scooted away fairly quickly, not wanting to be spotted in case she was in trouble!

Tsu quietly plodded through the main area of the Centre, his wings twitching a little as he looked for something. Rosie had told him last night about a square on the wall that swung at you. That was all he'd been able to get out of his little sister. He'd sworn not to tell Keeo what she'd done to the board, but was intent on coming out to investigate it himself.
As soon as he saw it, he knew what it was. Keeo had explained Kissmas to him last year. Tsu didn't remember whether they'd had an advent calender, but he recognised the board as one. Grabbing a chair from one of the nearby tables, Tsu clambered up on it and examined the board closely.
Number 14 hadn't been opened yet. Tsu wasn't sure who was opening all the doors, but he reached forward carefully, opening door 14. He tilted his head, examining the pictures that had already been revealed, recognising many of them as his friends.
Jumping down, Tsu pushed the chair back and wandered back to his room, idly wondering if he should try and get presents for people.

(( Slightly late... ))
A very tall girl, all elbows and knees, capered along the beach, humming distractedly. The material of her clothing--which her stuffy keeper insisted she wear, despite that none of the other Aerandir had to--stuck to her flagstone-patterned skin in the heat of the December day. Only the sea breezes kept her refreshed.
As she neared the strange building between the islands, she stopped and motioned excitedly to the dark red griffin that had been trailing behind her. The half-grown creature, Taal, snorted disgustedly through his beak and scuttled up to the girl's side. This didn't seem like a good idea...Sure, Kala thought it would be FUN to run off and explore...but of course, she'd just HAD to drag him along, didn't she? Progolo was probably having a conniption by now...
Ooooh, what have our brave adventurers stumbled upon? Kala thought. She would have said it out loud, but she'd begun to give up on her cumbersomely slow articulation. Adventure happened too fast for her to narrate it all verbally! The k'rage-us Kala an' her faithful sidekick will soon discover~!
She wheeled her staff over her head in what she imagined must have been a very "k'rage-us" looking gesture, and charged towards the structure. Kala the Fearless, that's what she was!
The girl arrived before the advent calendar with all due drama, Taal scrabbling behind. Ah, what was this now? A mysterious box...thing! She waved her staff at it, warning the imagined beast that she was Kala the Fearless.
The calendar did not respond.
Disappointed by the lack of ferocious snarls and death threats, Kala sidled up to the thing to get a closer look. Huh...some of those pictures looked kinda familiar...Her face shone with recognition. That was Blanche! And Tayte! Well...when they were gryphs, anyway.
Oh...so THIS was were their little fluffy selves had gone when they turned into children! Kalarune's imagination sparkled. The Box-Monster must have STOLEN their bodies for its dinner!
What a horrible beast!
Kala stomped her foot. Well! She, Kala the Fearless, would not stand for this outrage! She hoisted her staff, gave a war whoop, and stabbed the beast through the smallest number.
Crunch! The simple paper number gave way at once, revealing another unfamiliar gryph. Kala cheered in triumph. Another gryph would sleep peacefully tonight! Evil would not prevail while she was around!
She whipped her staff around in another dramatic display of her complete and utter k'rage-us-ness. It was up to her, Kala the Fearless, to save all of the gryphs by destroying the numbers--!
"Kalarune! THERE you are!"
Kala froze in her attacking stance, and looked guiltily around. There, a few yards away, was Progolo, striding towards her with a look of paternal impatience on his face. She straightened, hiding her staff behind her back, and fixed Progolo with her best, most innocent grin.
Her keeper didn't buy it. "What were you doing?" he demanded, giving her a quick once-over with light grey eyes. "How many times have I told you not to run off?"
Kala gave a moaning whine, gesticulating broadly. "I was..as...f-fightin' a m-monst-ster!" She insisted, waving her staff at the Box Beast.
"Indeed," Progolo said stiffly, examining the strange object. "What is this, anyway?"
"I TOLD-old...you...i's'a MONSTER-er!"
"Right...Kalarune, I hope you didn't break it...whatever it is..." He looked over the box with concern, and then over the entire structure. What was all this stuff for? He stared blankly for a few moments, before slowly, thoughtfully reaching for Kala's hand. "Come along, child...I don't think we should be here..."
As he led the unhappy girl away, the air rang with Kala's frustrated foretelling of doom and destruction to all Aerandir kind if she was not allowed to slay the Box-monster.

"And then you open the door for your day, which is today, and you get a surprise!" David explained for the thousandth time, bouncing excitedly on the balls of his feet.
Tayte, pre-occupied (as always) by some greenery on the trail, just nodded, not really listening. David was more excited about this whole thing than Tayte seemed to be. But that was just the way David was. Tayte had his hyper moments, but David was ALWAYS hyper. He was funny for an adult. Doris said he had ADHD or something. Whatever that was.
Having carefully stroked the plantlife on the path and taken a sample in his pouch, he stood, straightening and flexing his wings. "A s'prise?" He asked, finally intrigued. David nodded.
"Com'on XAT-Man, let's go."
Taking the man;s hand, Tayte allowed himself to be led to the lodge, watching the landscape with keen eyes as they passed. He wasn't exactly sure what he was looking for, he just liked looking at plants and feeling them, and he liked to gather them up, too. He had an awesome collection.
"So...I jus'...open da door?" Tayte asked skeptically, an eyebrow raised at the calender.
"Ya want help?" David asked.
"No, me!" Tayte cried, horrified that David might have all the fun of opening the little door. With excited reverance, he pulled the door open. "See! I culd do it!" He proclaimed. And, just to prove his superiority, he pulled on David's face-hairs, which had gotten absurdly long since he'd lost his razor.
"Hey! You little rascal!" David cired, chasing the squealing child out of the lodge.
